Im sorta confused, I sorta just stumbled apon a few furry sites, first one I ever came across was Wikipedia, saying furrys are terrible people and must die blah blah blah, I did not belive this so I did some reserch about furrys. I was influenced, being an artist myself I found their art to be most apealing. Now I feel like im a furry myself, I see no harm in being a furry. Im 14 and might be turning into a furry, for the past few days all Ive been thinking about is me being a furry. I would wake up early in the morning (ever since i did the research) for the past three days with my heart beating rapidly, is it want? Desire? Envy? Am I one? If I am how would I tell my parents. Please help.

Haha, you remind me of how i was when i first joined the fandom four months ago :P
I just kinda "tried it out" before i knew that i wanted to be a part of the furry fandom :3
And uhh, about telliing your parents, i still havn't told mine yet...
-
Ive been part of the fandom for about...6 years now I think. I joined late...when I was around 22. For me though, I always knew I was attracted to anthros..I just didnt know about the fandom. I stumbled upon it on a site called Gaia Online. Then I found Second Life..and I have never looked back. Im always searching out new ways to meet other furries, hence me finding this wonderful site today.
As for telling my parents..yeah, they still dont know either >.>;

So its a good idea not to tell parents?
-
Hmm, dont know if it is a good idea exactly, I have just never had a reason to tell them. Of course, I am lucky in the fact that I dont live with them too.. ^^;;;
-
Well, it's not a bad idea to tell your parents but the world doesn't go under if they dont :P

Really, the "Am I a furry" thing boils down to "Do I consider myself a furry?". One thing you've got to remember about stereotypes is that while there was/is SOME element of truth in it for at least one member of a community, is that the loudest are usually the most heard, and stereotypes don't apply to everyone.
About your parents, I just told mine "it's essentially like any other fandom or subculture, Star Trek, Anime, it has its bits, it has its people with a different level of involvement". Now they're fine with me commissioning a partial fursuit and a collar with a bell attachment! (Well, my mum is)
-
My mom would totaly be cool with it, she loves me unconditionaly, however my dad would "hate" me, he hates gays, bi's (Im neither of which) and If i told him i was a furry and I wish to draw furrys and wear a fursuit he would just stop talking to me, he basicly hates anything thats not him, If i told my mom she would tell my dad, I know it.
-
Personally, i have never tried a fursuit, but i am still a furry. My parents joke about it a bunch, but none of it is personal.
I am an artist, and am a proud furry, and there are some who are biased, but usually they don't know the whole truth about what a furry is. I tell them and they understand.
There is MUCH worse out there on the internet.
It sounds like you are a Furry, but get to know other furries and see if you agree with them.
Welcome to the club :D

New furries should stay here for awhile, to learn the ropes before moving on to bigger sites like furry4life, myfursonia, and others. The kinda expect that you know the bacics, it seems...
