This happened a few minutes ago, I was sitting on my couch typing on my laptop, my cat is bumping his head on my hand and then all of a sudden he jumps onto my arm and his claws dig into my skin, I shout and shake him off. I want to declaw him now. It hurt so much
-
hahaha, awww my cat does that sometimes. All he wants is your undying attention to his every whim
-
You could safely declaw him if he's an indoor cat, but if he goes outside often then he'll have a harder time defending himself from other cats or dogs, possibly.
-
I'm personally against the declawing of cats unless there's a medical reason it needs to be done...
Your cat is just being a cat. It's an animal, and it does what animals do. If he was trying to get you to pet him, he wasn't trying to hurt you. It just happens.

Agreed.

we dont de-claw our cats (two of them now ^_^ the kitten is soooo kyute :3 )
i dont see a reason unless its medically needed either.... your cat is just an animal, it wants your attention or maybe pounced some movement, or a shadow or a glint of light, who knows....
give your cat a hug! hugs solve everything! ...wait, except war... disease... crime... hmm... hugs solve some things! ;)

hugs would solve crime :P

I would have to agree on that, but I do hesitate in the circumstance that if it were an abused cat, which I'm not suggesting or saying that Wolfgang's cat is one, but I'm providing a situation when I think personally that declawing is necessary. I've dealt with some cats that randomly attack, mostly cats from abusive previous owners. They are mean, vicious, and seemingly lack any and all compassion they may have had at one point in their lives. Unfortunately if that cat is to be taken care of outside of an animal shelter or pound without being put down, it would be in the best of interest of the owners and possibly children that are around, to have the cat declawed for safety reasons and closely watched to keep it inside a domesticated area. Of course I'm stating the obvious when cat claws can be very painful and draw blood, but these abused cats I've seen aren't just warning you or playing with a slight scratch or scratches, they will continue to claw and claw without halt until you get away from them. I know they can still bite too, but that's definitely going to be nowhere near as painful because cats only have so much bite strength. That's just my outlook though, because I really don't like to put any animal down unless it comes down to a "no other choice" point.
Also on a side-note, I have seen some other cats before that are only particular to people they know over a long period of time, they often attack strangers when they get too close, almost acting like guard animals :)

well my cat didn't attack me, he tried to get in my lap buy my computer was in the way and he just jumed on my arm and I was wearing a short sleeved shirt. He's a good cat and he's calm, I can put him on my shoulder and he never has a problem with it.

Aww, I used to have a cat like that, but she would usually try to steal my chair by sitting in it and then look at me with her little cat smirk >.>

I don't have a cat and never did. My dog's a good size to tackle me when I'm typing away and he wants to play. I fall right on my face. D:

Glad to see you and your cat worked things out :D
When I adopted my first two cats as an adult, I decided not to declaw mainly because the procedure takes out the 'knuckles' of the cat and down the road could cause more problems in the long run health wise.
I trim my cats nails once a month, rub the paws every day so that they get used to the paw being touched.
Good luck :)
