Title: Parents just don't understand.
Post by: Count of Cutesy on October 25, 2009, 09:38:24 PM
My dad thinks very badly of furries, and it kind of makes me sad. I keep trying to explain to dad what furries are, and all he wants to believe are the stereotypes. He refuses to understand what a furry actually is. No matter how much I tell him. I could show him proof, but he probably wouldn't believe it.

Do you have parents that are the same way?

My parents are open minded about nearly everything, I just choose to keep stuff to myself mainly cause i feel like it'll be awkward to talk about.

im sorry to hear that, i hear fathers can be really stubborn. i dont have a father myself :( im lucky though because my mother is really open minded and supports my decision. she thought it was weird at first because of all the negative hype, but when i explained it to her, she really warmed up to the idea. i wish every one could be as lucky as i am.

I truly feel for you, but the only advice I can give you is to just endure it. Fathers have this keen ability to stick to their guns until the bitter end, so anything regarding a personal issue is deemed as radical or over dramatized. However, if you need a friend, and feel you know where to go just give me an email.

I think people are over-emphasising the father thing. It ain't just men who do this. All people become resistent to changing their ideas as they get older. Probably for the same reason that they find it harder to learn new things. Physically, their brains are set to one way of thinking and it's hard to divert from that. So if they grow up with an open mind, then they'll have one when they're older.

My mum has some... things... she doesnt like about me, and she's not gonna change that any time soon. You just have to live with it. I know that she's still got all these amazing good things and that she's still the loving mother I've always had. She's just a bit stubborn and closed minded.

All the father figures in my life have different hang ups and opinions that I find distasteful, but I still enjoy myself in their company regardless of that.
