Title: Who will you be in 10 years?
Post by: Asia Kali Yusufzai on October 15, 2009, 10:28:15 PM
I dont mean "I'm gonna be a fireman!" kinda thing... it's just that a few years ago, I realised that all the ignorant masses of middle-aged, out of touch, yet empowered individuals were the punks 30+ years ago, the hippies 40-50 years ago. Politically minded youth. Members of social movements. Granted, some havent lost that, and some weren't like that in the first place. But the point still stands.

So what will we be? (granted there are probably some here who are already too old to count into this :P sorry)

Will we be telling our kids to stop playing so many violent VR simulations? or that the stuff they watch and listen to is vapid and ridiculous? or that society ain't as good as it used to be? that the young are dangerous?

I try my best to keep hold of what I am now, cus right now, I'm brilliant :P
But will it last?

I'd probably be living on the streets or being taken care of by my mate ... semi-serious, with a joking twist

But seriously, I can see myself being an actor on those rubbish soap opera's and/or being a mediocre football player in a lower league in the UK

Well... you do bring up an interesting question:

Pertaining to the portion of kids stop playing violent videogames, no that'll never happen... but the generation following us need to be taught that the gaming entertainment they partake in is not real and the dangers of what real actions involve and how "final" they can be. They also need to be taught and encouraged that profane language will not help in their cause to give their message across.

Now to the meat of the topic... I'm unsure if I'll be wearing the mantle of leadership that goes with the job I am currently involved in. I'd rather mature into any position I get into instead of being thrust into it. If I do manage to get to that point, then I'll definitely be trying to teach my experience to the next generation.

To be honest, I have two options right now:

1. Go to Arizona and partake in their explosives engineering program at their universities

2. Become a video game designer, maybe educational video games... or maybe one of those over the top violent games.

as for the watching and listening, if they find it good to watch or listen to, all I could probably do is show them other music or show them other videos... (with the exception of pornographic material).

I go where the money takes me, I want to become an anesthesiologist so I can come home with a lovely paycheck and take care of people at the same time. If the health reform destroys that however, I'm going to choose something else.

Well I know I'm probably not going to be an actor, which is what I want to be.  However my second option is to be a history teacher and teach history to the masses!

In 10 years I will be writing about the things that come to mind when I do certain things. Hopefully, after going to university, I'll become a columnist. That is where I will write about what I have to say about the kids like me today. A way for me to tell my story of a kid with no direction, who hung with bad crowds, violence, drugs, etc. If not, I'll be a screenplay writer, editor, graphic designer, musician, go to law school for the kicks and giggles, and live simple.

I'd be teaching people how to be Communists and how to take stuff with the flow.

Ok maybe not the Communism part, but when the kids of the future are botherin me with their ways i'll just call 'em hippies.

I dont think some of you have understood completely what I'm asking.

I'm not asking what job you want, but what kind of person you will be.

I dont mean "I'm gonna be a fireman!" kinda thing...

More likely they lack reading skills.

im thinking that i will be a physisist for some company

Although that one made me giggle, I think the spelling of the job should be learnt first. :P

Dude, I cannot imagine music evolving anymore than it already has. Or in the case of pop, becoming more vapid than it already has. But, I've been proved wrong before.

I'd like to think I'd change from the bitter, cynical person I've become into someone who's as accepting but more...joyful?

In the end, though, I doubt that. I'll probably stay just as bitter and be the kind of person who realizes he's 60 when I'm only 30, you know what I mean?

Which sucks, since I'm studying to be a teacher.

"You kids today and yer post-modernism and yer national health care and yer free labor movement..."

Interesting view, and yeah I totally get the 60 when 30 thing.

You'll gradually lose touch with the way things advance perhaps?

Oh and music will evolve. It always does, either spurred on by technology, social change or the sheer stagnation of music as I see today, forcing a move into retro stylings for the sake of sheer variety. There will be something new, dangerous. We just dont know what it is yet.

In ten years, I would love to be surrounded by art, and it not be so stressful like it is now. I know you're not asking about what kind of job we want, but my job pertains to who I'd like to be. I'd love to be a comic book artist / writer or a conceptual artist for movies and games. I've got a passion for art and bettering myself that's changed when I hit college. I used to do it because it was something to do, and I didn't know how to improve, with taking my classes, I see how to make myself improve.. And I'm doing it, especially with my realism. I want to re-ignite feelings I used to have for something I like doing so that I can vent freely and express myself. I want to be more free, not shackled by my own faults and stress. I want to have the imagination that I used to have before I hit thirteen; I want to be happier. I don't want to do art because I have to. I want to do it because I want to. It may sound like a "I wanna be this when I grow up" answer, but you have to realize that art is a part of me and I'd like to change my views on it. I'd like to not hate it because deep down I know I love it. Circumstances have just made me bitter about it.

Fair enough, it's the kind of answer that works with the question. Your way is a good way to go.

I see myself in ten years, supporting the new generations post 'modern' movements with their political and social ideals at work, I may not exactly agree with what they want, but then the kids are probably going to better us somehow, so I say let em go, and I may as well find my purpose somewhere, maybe improve on my photography or my debating skills, not sure which but i'll do something.

I'm pretty sure I answered your question. Since you're having a bit of trouble understanding my post, I will be the exact OPPOSITE kind of person I am now...while throwing in a career.

Well, I KNOW that I will be married.
If I took my best guess on everything else, I see myself either working in a lab in a hospital or being a stay-at-home mom (because most likely, I'm going to end up having a kid).
So I'll be raising one of those kids, but I'm going to try to be very accepting of what my kid wants and listens to and plays and what not. Obviously I'll make restrictions, but I won't have them in a choke-hold.

Actually I did notice that, though it wasnt totally explicit so I wasnt completely sure, that's why I said "some" people instead of "all". :) oh yeah and from what I've seen of some of your posts, you're not exactly the opposite of that.

I'll either be in the police, or the army.
I don't see myself working in retail for the best part of my life.

Oh no need to worry about that. I won't be a boa constrictor with my kids. Their restrictions won't be ridiculous, they'll have a point to them, and there won't be a huge amount of them. I don't go crazy with power.
