http://www.marketwatch.com/story/disney-to-acquire-marvel-entertainment-2009-08-31-9050
I'm so scared. People say this may be a good thing. I'm sorry, I just can't see Disney promoting Marvel Zombies. :c
-
Oh Gawd,
What has Disney done?!
D:
-
Oh dears.
This is not good. D:
-
Marvel, I hope 4 billion dollars is worth watching your greatest characters go down the toilet for some marketing ploy.
-
HAH! Batman is DC! So I'm still happy.
-
Marvel are an absurdly successful business, and Disney would be fools to mess with a good thing. Most acquisitions of this magnitude really dont change much when considering successful franchises.
-
Wait, then whats going to happen to the comics, are they going to be super-censored?! :o

Mary Jane Watson will get replaced by Hannah Montana.

OMFG...The Punisher is going to suck now probably... >:( *RAGE*

Well, unless anyone here has the billions of dollars to buy it back away from Disney, there's not much we can do about it. :P So no use in assuming the worst and then worrying about it.
Disney isn't all bad after all. If they did everything wrong, they wouldn't be the huge company they are. Not saying they haven't ruined things before either, mind you. But as I said, there's nothing we can do about it. So whatever happens, happens.

While that is true, I have problems seeing Disney promote heroes such as the Punisher, Deadpool, and their series Marvel Zombies. It's just not kiddy enough.
-
I'd agree with Rigor that most of the public already sees Marvel as "intended for more-mature audiences"... what really bothers me in particular is the way that Disney and Marvel went about in this. They practically advertised instead of trying to keep quiet.
-
And that's when a web comic I wanted to do starts. Yea I thought up something interesting at work while thinking about this. I got a tad scared. HULK THE SING ALONG VERSION! For tone deff children, all you do is grunt say your name then Smash! It's a big hit! And every time you smash something get rid of the blood, or anything and put in HAPPY RAINBOWS THAT SPUR FROM NO WHERE! And all the flowers with their happy faces dance and sing.
Yea I went off on this at work, even acted it out as I went. If I can figure out how to work youtube so I can make small movies I'll show you how umm interactive I can be when I rant.
-
I think people are over reacting. Yes disney are famous for muted tails for the most childish of children, but they seem to let companies run autonomously. Pixar do what they've always done (obviously pixar talent hasnt bled into disney talent, the two are on polar opposites in terms of the recent quality of film.) And Miramax do what they've always done (on the edge of decency.)
actually Miramax is a good one to point out. They are owned by disney, and they released Clerks. Actually most of their films are mature... thuogh obviously calling Clerks mature is a bit... wrong.
-
Disney didn't exactly flaunt it as if it were a shiny new toy to play with when they bought Miramax either.
-
Ugh.
I hope they don't make Spiderman and Hannah Montana partner up or something.
Dx
-
Hannah Montana = The new Mary Jane Watson
*sigh*
-
I don't know if it'll go that far, but I do feel the notion of the companies joining is bad because I fear since the heroes themselves are "kids classics" nowadays, they'll take advantage of that and try dumbing it down a bit more for the younger generation.. Or use the heroes for some dumb ploy for stuff like "Spiderman likes to brush his teeth, you should TOOOO"! It was just the way the story came across ha gives me that impression because they were like, "Disney buys out Marvel giving it complete access to it's LARGE VAULT OF CHARACTERS" which translates to me as, "Oooo, shiney new toys to mess up." @u@
I dunno, maybe it's just because I'm a hardcore Marvel fan, and I love to read comics. I just fear for the plots and things that are already good getting scrapped. I mean, my dream job was to work as a writer / illustrator for Marvel.. I'm not so sure now.
-
So I'll probably never hear from the Punisher again. I can't see Disney creating such a dark mood for it's audiences and so far, the most hardcore movie I've seen out of them was the Alamo and even that sucked. Pirates of the Carribean wasn't bad but nowhere near as epic as the first and second Punisher movies. Disney throwing a guy into a glass recycler? Don't think so.

Hannah Montana = The new Mary Jane Watson
Hmm... I wonder how many people in the world are saying this? I mean, us three just like said the same things.
-
I wonder how many people in the Disney department are saying that.
-
I think that Disney's main motivation is the success of Marvel. I doubt they'll get rid of writers (unfortunately for Amazing Spider-man fans, Joe Quesada will probably keep his job) who are writing stories that are selling well. The worst they can do is ditch the darker stories, but some of those are just...really bad.
Plus, for Kingdom Hearts fans, what wouldn't be surreal-ly awesome about fighting alongside Spidey or the Punisher?
-

That's because kids love Marvel and it isnt contrary to disney style franchises.
Or use the heroes for some dumb ploy for stuff like "Spiderman likes to brush his teeth, you should TOOOO"!
umm... dont they already do that?
So I'll probably never hear from the Punisher again
Punisher is popular, Disney aren't stupid.
-
I mean more so with ridiculous things. I think they only used it for things like teaching kids to stay away from strangers, which is understandable because they are superheroes. But as a whole, I can agree with Spike. There's more than just the Punisher, and I fear they'll do away with most of the darker stories.

Not all of them are bad.. Honestly considering Kingdom Hearts, that just seems odd given all the other characters, but that's just my opinion.

I present to you, Spiderman endorsed, Crest toothpaste (aka Super Action Liquid Gel!)

Well I see no reason to expect that from Disney. They havent done it before, so it's unlikely that they would do it now.
-
Not toothpaste, lawd. I meant like those little inserts in comics. I know he has toothpaste and bubble bath and god knows what else.
-
this just made me facepalm. I hope the punisher won't die, as Spike already mentioned.
-
I don't think it'll be as bad as some people think it will. You have to remember that disney has produced Pirates which was rated PG-13 and they are amking Prince of Persia the movie, which if it's like the game will be at least PG-13 as well. Disney isn't much afraid of making movies that are good for the whole family. i little comic book blood won't hold disney bakc. remember the guy getting his eyes picked out in pirates? they're not fully family oriented. they want stuff for all audiences
-
I still remember the day I found out about this, I told my Marvel friend who buys all kinds of comic books about this and he almost cried because he doesn't want to see all the good movies go away x.x. I don't know why Marvel would just sell out like that, I mean they are so successful, it's just hard to fathom their logic for this.
-
I really do think people are over-reacting. It is likely that disney will not interfere, just as they have done with their other acquisitions, including miramax who make strictly adult movies.
They probably wont interfere, they know marvel are successful, they know Marvel know what they're doing. All this is is funding for one, and revenue for the other. Marvel get more money to make better films and games, Disney get money from the success of these films and games. It's a win-win situation... probably.

Four billion dollars was behind their logic. I dunno, things aren't looking down yet.

We'll see, I just hope Punisher stays intact, I really want it to continue *but hopefully it gets better than the 2nd movie, the first one was better i think >.>*
