I really need some advice because i'm really scared...This month I have to get my wisdom teeth removed and they're going to have to put me to sleep, but instead of my friends comforting/supporting me, they've been telling me all these stories about 'The people who never woke up' and now I'm terrified of getting the surgery done, but I can't avoid it because of my braces and the whole 'Process' with my braces. I'm starting to get really nervous and I'm getting to the point where I cry about it and the only thing people keep telling me is 'Oh, get over it!' or 'It's no big deal!' :'(
Does anyone have any advice as to what I could do to help myself with this...dilemma?

I can understand being nervous about appointments like that. I don't like any kind of doctors just because I get too stressed and worked up (more than an average person should).
You just need to not listen to your friends. They're just joking around anyway. The people who are doing the surgery know what they're doing since they've done it before. It's a sure thing that you'll wake up, no need to fret, I promise. :D
P.S.
If it makes you feel any better...I have an appointment on the 7th to see if I have a peptic ulcer (so that means a blood test). I've not felt 100% for the past three months and that's what my symptoms match the most. So I'm nervous about an appointment too, if that helps to know you're not totally alone.

Don't stress over it. I had mine removed a couple years ago, it's not a huge deal really. The doctors know what they're doing. You don't feel a thing during it, and you'll wake up just fine. Then you get to eat lots of Jell-o when you get home. :P I'm not going to lie and say it's fun or anything, but it's honestly nothing you should fret over.

:peek: Did you say, Jell-O?
LOL! I really do appreciate the advice. It makes me feel a little less nervous about what's going to happen. I bet it feels weird being on pain-killers and having Jell-O in your mouth when you can't feel it...I hate that feeling!

I don't think it's possible for you to not wake up when the put you under, I had 6 teeth pulled and they put me under

You're having your teeth removed. It's not a heart transplant or anything. Why wouldn't you wake up!? You'll be just fine. You might get ice cream for it after, depending on which dentist you go to.

Oh! I didn't even think of it...
You should actually feel lucky you're being put under.
I had four teeth pulled in one sitting, with just novacaine shots.
Then afterwards I had a bunch of cotton swabs stuck in my mouth for the drive home so I could barely breathe (I usually breathe through my mouth because I don't feel like I take enough air in through my nose somehow).
But even with that stuff, it wasn't all that bad. The part that sucked the most was the novacaine shots actually.

well my brother got his wisdom teeth pulled, I don't remember him being on any painkillers, but the only downside to it that I Do remember was being unable to speak for a little bit, but once your mouth gets used to the lack of wisdom teeth (which isnt too long) you'll be talking like normal. But Immediately after they are pulled you can only eat some of the softer foods, but then, like the inability to talk, it goes away. It really is nothing to worry about, the people taking your teeth are medical professionals, and the last thing most pros. want to do is risk a patient, so undoubtedly you will wake up.
My advice to you is take some deep breaths, eat your favorite food, have a cold glass of water, and try to relax as best you can. Do anything that you find relaxing, and do it.

I've had wisdom teeth removed and I've had "spare" canine teeth removed, and it may not be a pleasant experience, but remember that if it will help you, get it done as quickly as possible.

i had somthing like this about a week ago, i had to have two teeth removed and i was put under full anasthetics, to be honest, they just put the needle in and thats it, you wake up in a bed, in fact the worst bit is the several hours of "YOU MUST REST" after in the hospital......
you'l be fine, good luck! :D

yeah I know how you feel about being knocked out out. When i had apendicitus they knocked me out and I woke up fine. I think im going to have to get my wisdom teeth taken out soon.
-
When I had mine taken out two day before Christmas, they actually didn't put me to sleep. The put me "half" asleep. Heh. My mother said while walking from the operating room to recovery, I was singing the Christmas carols that were being played on the overhead speakers. Also, when I was finished with the surgury, I said "wtf happened?" I don't remember any of that. The first thing I DO remember after surgury was asking what time it was.
Dont' worry about it. You'll be fine. Just follow what the doctor says and you'll do fine.

Eh he he he...I hope I don't say anything embarrassing afterward...
-
I say embarassing things on a regular basis anyway XD. You'll be fine, good luck!

I've had mine out, and I asked to be put under. I'm not watching someone rip something from my mouth! I'm not going to lie it was scary, I've never been under before. I did start to panic, but I'm a moron and looked at the tools. I remember the nurses trying to calm me down. Also I'm a diabetic so they had to stick an IV in me to make sure my blood sugars were stable. Next thing I know someones lifting out of a chair, the room is moving and my dad walks in. He got a good laugh helping me eat some yogurt. You have to THINK about eating, so you don't nom your tongue to death. But it's not bad, they give you (from what I hear) great pain killers if your sore afterwords.
But you should be fine, it is scary, but think of it this way. You get a decent nap and yummie food after ^-^

when I got my appendics taken out they let me have all the icecream that i could eat.
-
I know it's a weird comment, but it's almost like they have this special surgery menu. If you get your appendics taken out, you get ice cream. If you get your molars taken out, you get jello-o. What next, if you get your kidney removed, you get a turkey sandwich. :-[ Sorry for switching topics, but I'm still a bit scared about it and when I get scared or nervous, I crack jokes.

sweet free turkey sandwhiches! I should get my kidney removed. jking
