Title: Spellbound
Post by: Dr. Strange on May 26, 2009, 10:28:54 PM
Ok, so this topic is started because of a poem I made that turned into a story idea... No idea where this is going...

Little bit of background, intrepret the poem, lazy furs;

Spellbound
The smooth caress of a silk-soft lie
A wish to remain where the tides never change
Kept in spite of reality's frigid bite
Everyday, the same boring routine
  Made to be a cold-hearted machine
  Embers dying in a steel box
Held back by invisible acid chains
Only permitted to watch the show
Missing out on every little thing
Even the sun is cold to me...

--From the diary of Sahara O'Malley, 2001

So, the story goes that the Kluxka clans are active once again... The clans are made up of several smaller street gangs, although no one really know what to call them since it's 16th century England. America is yet to be found or thought of. The country of Greater Volvia is right between France and Spain, a small country with little to no contact with its neighbors. Old English and some form of Greek are the only languages spoken in this small country. Furs, scalies, avians, insects, and other such creatures who live here are unawares of the parallel universe known simply as the Other Side, that exists next door to each one of them.

Is sitting rooftop just watching the village go by it's every day means of life.  There has to be something more than just these petty wars and disputes...  If only something extraordinary were to happen then just maybe I wouldn't feel empty inside.

A black fox crept along the outskirts of Anbria, the capital of Greater Volvia, ears swiveling as she smelled the air for trouble. The usual scent of leather and spices wafted from the shops along the dirt road, making her smile. Her mage robes glittered duly in the early light of dawn.

Feeling nothing out of the ordinary, he begins roof-jumping to the market to see if any merchant had a whetstone.  Usually don't sell whetstones around this time of year, but it's worth a try.  Besides what else is there to do?

Making another run around, since he couldn't spot his comerades, Jester managed to notice a figure in mage robes, and decided to advance towards it.

Scanning the market for the particular merchant he usually goes to for his whetstones.  After half a minute, the merchant is nowhere in sight, so he sits down with his chin in his hands.  Uhg.  Why is there nothing to do?

She perked her ears and turned, emerald eyes narrowed slightly at the dragon. "What be thy need, sir?" She asked scathingly, giving him a dirty look.

"Sure. Where would we go?" She inquired, glossy fur rippling as she turned her head to scan for a place to talk.

Meanwhile, Frank "Frankenstein" Gordan, her separate half, was scouting the town of Gregoa, thirty miles south of the capital. His yellow eyes were orbs that glowed venomously from a White-scaled face.

Turned around because there was nothing interesting in that direction except a river.  As he was about to jump off of a nearby house, the roof collapses and he falls into the house, down some stairs, onto the front patio, and then stopped rolling some 3 feet away from the other two moaning in pain, hold his leg and his head especially.  Note.. too self... never EVER... do that again....

She chuckled darkly, replacing the hood of her robe over her fluffy ears and nodded. Feeling the hairs on her neck prickle, Sahara ducked low and melted into the shadows, slipping in and out of the liquid darkness with the ease and grace of a jaguar.

(you guys are just mean...)

Connor manages to stand up, and for a few moments everything is perfectly fine.  Those moments were short lived, however, for all at once, everything went in slow-motion, his vision deeply blurred, not being able to tell one thing from another.  All he saw was a fog.  To top this his entire backside was screaming for him to sit back down, but he couldn't.  He was frozen on the spot, right there.  He would've cried for help, but his throat went rigid  every time he tried to open his mouth. He had no idea what was going on, but he knew that it had nothing to do with his recent accident, and with that, he passed out, still standing up.

((Long post ahoy!!))

A single sigh escaped Lepau's lips. "Treporito..." he muttered, exasperated. Though he was quite tired already from Treporito's apparent determination to slow things down and procrastinate using anything he found, Lepau insisted to himself to be patient. "... Come on, Treporito. I do want to end up in the city before it gets dark."

Smirking, Treporito continued climbing up a tree. "Why?" he asked, a look of innocence upon his face as he climbed, almost like a little child. "The night has never hurt anyone, Lepper. And-"
"Don't call me Lepper. Please. It's Lepau." Lepau interrupted, becoming increasingly frustrated. "What has gotten into you today? Do you not want to go to the city?"
Treporito shrugged, hanging off a branch, swinging a little, before hoisting himself up, grabbing a higher one. "Not in particular." he replied. "I'll go with you, Leppe- I mean, Lepau, but why do you even like it? It's loud, smelly and cramped."
Lepau gave Treporito a stern look. "Much like my views of the forest." he replied.

It wasn't usually in Lepau's nature to be cynical or abrasive in speech, but Treporito was an exception. Lepau was still too polite to refuse his company, so being a little rude was the furthest he could go. And besides, even if he DID tell Treporito to leave him alone, there'd be little chance of that acheiving anything.

"Now come on. Seriously." Lepau groaned. "We NEED to get to the city."
Treporito shook his head. "You mean, YOU need to get to the city. Go on, go, and I'll see you there."
"Fine!" Lepau grunted, turning around and walking away. He knew Treporito would play some trick, sneak up and do something... but that was as far as Treporito's predictability went.

It only took approximately half an hour before the trees began to clear, and the city walls appeared over the horizon. Sighing with relief, Lepau looked behind him to check if Treporito had followed... well, he couldn't see Treporito, but that meant nothing. Lepau took a few further steps, still looking behind him.
"Boo!" came a voice from in front of him, and Treporito swung down from the branch, hanging upside down with his legs.
Lepau jumped a little, but knew he should have seen it coming. "Are you quite done?" he breathed, pressing his palm against his own forehead.
Treporito smirked. "No. But I'll save the rest for later, how about that."

Halfway across the fields, Treporito groaned. "I'm tired." he complained sarcastically.
"No, you're not." Lepau replied, knowing full well that Treporito was just putting this on.
"Yes I ammmm." Treporito whined, and sat down on the grass.
Two steps later, Lepau turned, frowning. "Oh, seriously, now, Treporito. Get up."
Treporito shook his head. "Bring me a drink of water and I'll consider it. Oh, how about some bread?"
"We can't afford that if we're going to make the journey on my wallet alone." Lepau grumbled. "Look, it's a little bit further. I'll leave you behind again."
Treporito shook his head. "Is that wise?" he asked. "You sound like you need reminding about that time with the bear... or perhaps the wild boar? Oh, right, and did you forget about that group of bandits?"
Lepau seethed with frustration. "Treporito..." he uttered, clenching his fists. He would never throw a punch, but he was certainly aggravated.

Ears swiveling, she stops dead and turns back, scenting the air. "I smell... someone close by..." She purred, beginning to walk back toward where Artemis had fallen. Smirking, she reached out her hand and offered it to him, palm up. The lighter black pads of her paw were rough to the touch.

Connor abruptly woke up from his "trance"-like state when something... or someone strange got near.  He looked to his side to see just a paw extended to his aid.  He did not know if this was all in his head or not, but he got the hint that he needed to grab it...  so he did, and the moment he touched the paw, everything cleared up, the city returned to his vision, and the only thing that bothered him now was a slight headache.  "Who are you?" he managed to spurt out after some well deserved time to regain his senses.

"The name's Tempest, and I wouldn't say 'haunting' the city, I am just trying not be bored at the moment."  Conner replied.  Instead of looking Sahara up down, like she did him, he looked her dead in the eyes, and gathered enough information to tell that someone was waiting for her.

She nodded, eye brightening. "Would you care to accompany me to a meeting? I am quite sure you'll find it interesting." A silent chuckle breathed out of her mouth, her tongue sticking out the side as she yawned. "I am late now... I must go. Follow if you wish, disappear if you do not."

Kahlea tilted her head, there was noise from up ahead. Two-tone eyes catching sight of two scalies, a lizard and a snake, conversing made her stop. Her claws dug into the soft ground with unease.

Still uneasy about this 'Sahara' character, he wondered if it would cause any harm in following her.  Many, many things could go wrong, but many good things could happen as well.  It was then that he made his decision.  "Hope you don't mind, but I'm going to disappear, and follow you.  As to not raise suspicion of any watchful eyes." He told her, and then practically vanishes in a crowd of people.  After that his movements were neigh invisible.

As Jester was waiting, he heard another group approaching, and playing it safe, hides in the feilds.

"I hate patrolling the town limits, when can we just attack them and be done with it?" one person said in a high pitched yet gravely voice. "Boss wants us to make sure how much danger we're going to be in if we do attack, so we're here to probe the defenses." a deeper voice replied. As far as I was informed, I should be the only agent on active duty here, so they're probably with the enemy... Jester reasoned as he gathered electricity in his gauntlets...

A black jaguar streaked past the two guards and slammed into Jester. She sheepishly hid herself and made a shh motion with her hand, eyes apologetic.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sahara nodded once and melted into the crowd once more, following a pre-determined path into the thickest part of town to get to the field. Sensing danger, she ducked and slipped into a bakery shop off the path.
"Mornin' ladies." She cooed, walknig behind the counter to kiss her mother on the cheek.
"Sahara, dear, could you take these pastries to that nice boy, Jester? I haven't seen him recently. Has he been to see you?"
"Yes, he wanted to meet me later for some recon. Are you feelin' better, mother?"
The older panther smiled at her daughter. "Be careful love. I will see you tonight, will I not?"
"Of course. Good-bye mother." The wolf replied, sending her mother an air kiss and disappearing back into the waning crowd.
She made her way to the field and ducked beneath the tall grass, weaving along the ground like a snake.
Jester put a finger to the girl's lips, then got into a leaping stance, waiting for the two guards to walk by. As soon as they came within view, Jester leaped out and slammed his right fist into the temple of the deep-voice guard. "Damn, its that crazy dragon brat!" the guard yelled as he drew his sword and slashed at Jester, who rolled out of the way....
As the guard was slashing at Jester, Connor got up close behind the guard, and struck the back of his full-force with his fist.  As the guard was falling he grabbed the head and twisted it quickly, snapping the neck.  Connor grunted as the guard hit the ground with a thud.
Sahara weaved to where the fight was and smiled, tapping the jaguar's arm. Waving, she pointed to Jester and raised a brow. Her eyes lit up with mirth. She smirked at Connor's attack and snickered when both the guards fell to the ground in useless heaps.
The jaguar shrugged. Her eyes were young, still full of innocence with only a hint of a wilder side. She sank lower in the tall grass and watched with an air of dread. When it ended, she stood up and swished her Egyptian skirt up to her knees, clearing her throat.
Sahar shrugged. "I have no idea his name, but he's a good fighter, I'd say." She replied dryly.
Clearing her throat again, Kahlea stood taller and shot a nervous glance at the fallen guards. Her sleek black fur was a bit ruffled and she looked like someone had tried to blow dry her fur.
"Um... hello? THose aren't the only ones around. We'd better get out of here if you don't want to attract more... THey flock to their brothers..." She informed them pointedly, the innocent act all but vanished.
"First of all, the reason I wanted to be alone with Sahara was because I didn't want other people seeing what I had for her..." Jester replied, leaning against a rather sturdy cornstalk.
Title: Re: Spellbound
Becoming rather annoyed, Kahlea walked up to Tempest and knocked on his head. "Hello? Anyone home?" She snarled. "Did you not just hear me?"
Sahara stepped between the two and gave them both a tired look. "Look, he's here now, nothing can be done. Show me what you wanted to show me. I have things to get done." She replied shortly, pulling the jaguar away from Connor before he could even think to hit her. "And you," she growled, staring at Kahlea with a haunted glare, "shut up for five minutes."
Grumbling, Jester pulled out the scroll, and unraveled it, showing a diagram of a humanoid, and various elements, with red lines connecting each element to a body part. 'This is my research to find out if I can turn a mage, or non-swordsman, into a warrior with almost no equal...I still have a few elements to go through, but I'm mostly finished' Jester says while putting the scroll away...
After a quick glance, she nods. "Ouch!" She yelps, cursing softly. The small pouch under her robes jingled and jiggled. "Be still!" Sahara swore, pulling the ouch out from under her and emptying a small rat out. She also pulled out a pastry and passed it to Jester. "With love, from my mother." She explained, tickling the rats' chin.
Kahlea growled savagely at Sahara and bit her hand. "Worm-fed wench." She snarled, smirking.
Walks up to Kahlea and grabs her by the scruff, lifting her up a little bit while saying, "I'd watch myself if I were you.  Also, guys she may be right about more soldiers coming.  So we'd better get outa here."  Then put Kahlea down gently, looking around, and sniffing the air.  This indeed was something quite entertaining.
"Uh...thank you?" Jester confusingly replied, taking the pastry. "Anyway...I have to go deal with some other buisness, but I'll surprise you when I get done, okay?" Jester said as he began to walk off back into town, but not without shooting a look of anger at Kahlea. As he heads to town, he nibbles on the pastry..
Shaking her head, Sahara returned her attention to Kahlea. "Insult me like that again and you'll wake up in Bolt's grasp. Now, let's go." She hissed, taking the young jaguars' hand and leading her off. She turned her head, "Tempest? Would you accompany me to the castle? I need a second set of hands."
Kahlea fought and cursed her all the way, eyes flashing with magic. She muttered a spell and directed it towards Sahara, only to find it already counteracted. She huffed in annoyance. "Go to hell..." She hissed back.
Replacing the rat, Sahara slipped her pouch back on and increased her pace.
Upon reaching his 'nest' on a roof of a random home, Jester looks at the sky, contemplating. "I came up with this research to bridge the social gap between the mages and the warriors, but in order to accomplish that, I have to join one side, and betray the other friends I know..."
Upon reaching the castle Grimme, Beta released Kahleas' arm and stood, staring up at the battlements. Her eyes glowed brightly with magic and excitement.
"Who goes?" A gruff voice shouted down, followed by the face of a scarred tiger.
"Ye guardian. Open thy door, Wenst." She shouted back, muttering a small protection spell under her breath and casting it over Kahlea and herself.
"Aye, Guardian! Be happy thee art in Lady Kara's good graces, eh?~" He shouted with a laugh, disappearing to pull the huge wooden bar off the gates and swinging them back by a pulley system.
Kahlea stared at the tiger, awed and somewhat frightened. Her tail tucked between her legs and she kept claustrophobically close to Sahara, eyes darting from face to face as they passed the hundred or so knights and guards inside the castle courtyard.
Sahara shook her head and snickered softly, claws of her bare feet clicking gently on the cobble stoned courtyard, leading to the inner structure of the main house.
He appears next the two, unseen by most of the guards, "False alarm, just some kids in an alley fighting", he said as he was gazing everywhere.  He had never been inside the castle before, and wanted to catch every moment of what he could see, hear, smell, touch, and possibly taste if he got lucky.
She nodded, stopping in front of a massive door with an ugly iron knocker. Sahara banged on the door several times and waited, hearing footsteps echo down the hallway behind the door.
A small fox kit answered the door, dressed in servants clothing. It kept its eyes on the bottom of Sahar's robe, speaking in a clear, crisp voice. "Lady Kara is sick at the moment. If you will follow me, I will show you to your rooms, Lady Beta."
"Thank you, Mavoc. Could you inquire as to the condition of my Lord? I am concerned for his being, he has been missed at the convention."
The kit nodded and motioned to a line of servants gathering near the doorway to gaze at the newcomers. The Grimmes rarely had visitors.
Finally sick of throwing his anger around, Jester decided to go sight-seeing, and for whatever reason crossed his mind, he decided that castle Grimme should be a nice choice. So off he went, leaping from roof to roof, slowly making his way towards the castle, the flame jets on his feet giving away his movements.
A roar came from deep within the castle and the jaguar shook her head, lowering her ears in pain. "Stitches, thou art deeply in hell..." She cursed, racing down the hallway, claws clicking maddeningly against the tiled floors. As she rounded the corner and darted down the marble stairs, she ran headlong into her servant, Maximus, carrying mead to her rooms. She blushed and apologized, still bounding down the hall to the main rooms.
Bursting through the doors, she collapsed next to her master's bed and looked him over, nervously flicking her tail.
Kahlea stared after her, confused.
Jester was just about to clear the wall into the castle when he was sadly caught by a magic restricting net and he fell down hard. "What should we do with the intruder?" one guard said. "Inform Lord Maximus, what else?" the other said, and the one he talked to nodded and left...all the while Jester was unconsious during the conversation.
As the knight came bursting into the room, Beta stood. "Who be disturbin Lord Maxis?" She snarled, teeth and claws extended.
"MiLady, there was a dragon.... tried to get in... dazed in outer wall...." He puffed, bent at the waist, hands on his knees to catch his breath.
"Aye, I will handle it. Back to thy post, Aramis." She ordered, kissing the old dragon on the forehead. "Sleep peacefully, my lord..." She murmured, singing a Latin spell that dissipated his nightmares.
She appeared next to the first guard and smirked down at Jester, eyes mocking him. "Well, well, well... This is my dragon, Mylo. Bring him to my quarters and be sure he is comfortable. And have Mekayla bring him some of those tarts..." She said softly, touching his brow with a claw.
The guard nodded and carried the now 'gift wrapped' Jester to Beta's room "Must be a lover or very close friend, never seen her act this nice before.." he said to himself as he left Jester with a note that said 'Happy birthday Beta!' on one of the ropes. Jester, unconsious and rather flexible, is comfortable sleeping in a net...
Returning to her earlier catch, Lady Beta summoned another servant. "Take this jaguar to the spare rooms upstairs.. She is worn from travel. And return her at once, we have dinner to attend to." She growled, robes rustling.
A lion cub bowed into the hallway and smiled at the wolf's feet. "Welcome home, Milady." Its sweet voice made the Lady Beta smile.
Jester began to stir in the net, and with a quick kick, tore through the net and fell off the bed. "Oi, who put me....and why does it smell like women?!"
"Ah, thank ye kindly, Kalie. Thee hast grown, yes?" She asked, ruffling the cubs' hair.
"Aye, Lady Beta. I trust thou enjoyed thy journey?" The lilt in her voice sang down the halls, causing several of the children in the castle to stop to listen.
"Somewhat. Methinks thou wouldst enjoy a walk through the chambers, wouldst thee not? I must see to mine rooms. Wouldst thou accompany me?"
" 'T would give me great pleasure."
With this, they both set off toward the wolf's rooms, coming upon a distraught Jester. Beta, with a small smirk, tapped her foot patiently on the ground. "Art thou done, Jest?" She queried, venturing out with his nickname.
She giggled. "Mine, Jest." Her tail twitched with amusement as she reached out to help him.
Jester blushes deep under his black scales and then notices Sahara's hand and takes it, getting up and off the bed. "You live.....here!?" Jester's tail froze from shock when he looks around the room, he never thought Sahara lived this well...
"Only whilst I care for milord Maxis. He be mine family. Thou art comfortable, yes?" She queried, ripping the 'Happy Birthday Beta' sign up. Eyes locking on his, she smirked. "So, there be rumors about the castle as of late about thee."
"Yes, until I'm aware of a situational shift, couldn't be better" then sees her ripping up the sign. "Well, thats intresting, what be these rumors then?"
"Nay, this be a joke. Thy greeters are jesters. Vile men of no honor." She replied with a slight curl of her lip.
"Milady? Who be this creature?" The lioness asked, peeking out from behind the panther's turquoise robes. Her curious, amethyst eyes scanned over Jester quickly.
"THat be Jester, mine friend. Be a good girl and fetch mine dagger."
"Never saw you as the royalty type, and I didn't know you were married...!" Jester said, his mane now on end with excitement and some electricity...
"Married?" Her entire body stopped moving, fur standing on end. "Who be mine husband?" She growled.
The cub walked off quickly, fur rumpled. "Be safe, milady.." She murmured.
"Nay, I be his daughter. Where did you get that crazed idea from, Jest?" She asked, relaxing a bit.
"Nevermind, I somehow thought you were his wife when she said 'Milady'..." Jester replied, closing his eyes and shaking his head. Although a smile did creep across his face to think I lost my chances to Lord Maxis, I really earned the name 'Jester' this time.
A harsh cackle escaped her lips and the felines tail flicked in extreme amusement. "All the servants and most visitors call me milady, since I am the daughter of their boss. Though most of the time I'm pretty lax with respect issues such as proper address." Her eyes glittered with sudden mischief.
"Would you care to see the rest of the castle? Maxis wouldn't mind much.."
His ear frills flew up, then slowly went down to a 45 degree angle as a nervous flicker crossed his gaze. "J...Just us, or is there going to be an escort?"
at that moment a young looking guard turned round the corner giving a crashing stamp onto the floor with his hobnailed boots...... "escort at the ready sah!" (feline)
"No escort, why? Do you feel threatened by me, Jester?" Her eyes laughed at him from under her hood.
The smaller feline returned, tail twitching as she carried an old leather holster with a delicate, jeweled handle poking out one end. The child presented it to Sahara with a flick of her wrist and secured the holster under the other felines' robes. "Your blade, milady."
"No, but now I feel a little nervous, after all, it takes a few seconds for me to recall my gauntlets" Jester said, his eyes lingering towards the sheathe that contained the blade. If a fight was going to break out, he would probably have to play defence before he could get enough distance to recall his weapons and fight back.
A smile split her face and Sahara patted his arm. "You'll be fine. There's nothing down there that we don't know about. And anything that's dangerous has either been removed or sedated." The feline chuckled as she turned to leave, taking Kyla's hand.
Her mother closed down the bakery and mounted Asyrl, her favorite steed. I hope Beta and Jester are alright... Maxis isn't in the best of health these days..
Jester followed after her, and thinking back to the pastry, a question crossed his mind. "What does your mother think of me, I barely remember her face, yet she seems to like me very much, if she sent you to bring a pastry..."
"She likes you very much, but a fair warning. She's the kind to play games and send pastries to people she's only met a couple times." She said with a chuckle.
"So, she doesn't think I'm interested in you?" Jester asked, then immedeatly blushed and cursed himself under his breath. That was just way too out of the conversation, she'll catch on for sure!
"Or things like that."
Kyla pulled on her arm a little and pointed toward a tapestry, a quizzical expression on her face.
"You may go... Retire to check on Father when you are finished, Kyla." Beta murred, patting the cub on the head lovingly. She turned to wink at Jester. "I wouldn't say that, now Jest..."
"Uh...right" Jester replied, his eyes showing relief as he walked next to her, making occasional glances, some lasting longer than others.Until I can decide who to side with, I can't tell her how I feel....not yet.
Starting with a brisk trot, Asyrl and Sahara's mother made their way in the direction of the castle, both in a cheerier mood than that morning. The familiar rhythm of bumping in the saddle down the dirt road relaxed Wndyr and she smiled at the few peasants she encountered, handing them what was left of her pastries from the bakery as night began to fall.
Sahara glanced at him out of the corner of her eye, smiled at his blush and continued into the cellar, eyes ahead. The gold trim of her robes glowed eerily in the flickering light of the torches posted at intervals down the long corridor. Chilly air swept around their knees, making K.B shiver and pull one of the ever-burning torches down. It made a rusty clang-swish as the metal rubbed together then silenced itself in her paw. She murmured softly and the fire blazed a warm purple.
"Come along, there's only a set amount of time before we have to leave here..."
Jester could only nod and get closer to her, his currently befuddled mind not able to do any more. Wait...going down a dark hall, with Kahlua in her robes, and me following...oh well, best not to point it out and feign surprise he thought as he got within about a foot from her.
"So, what made you stop by, Jester?" She asked, ignoring how thin her robe was and hugging the blaze closer.
Halfway down the dirt path, she came across a fox lying in the way. Glancing around, she dismounted and crept closer. You poor thing...
"I was bored, and decided to visit this place, the fact that anyone that isn't a confirmed ally to Lord Maxi is forbidden to get past the front gate escaped me." Jester said, and suddenly started shivering. He tried to start a fire with his magic, but he was shaking too much, making impossible to create a stable fire. Jester quickly closed the foot-long gap between him and Kahlua, and hugged her mid-section. "S...so....c..cold" was all he could say at the moment.
"Too many thefts and spies sneaked through back when the revolution was still going and now we don't allow many unknowns here.. Quite a pain if you need a place to stay and we're the only one for miles..." She shivered a bit more and flinched as he hugged her. "Can I help you?"
