I was wondering what your guys believes are on some of our questionable creatures.
People are always wondering about the Sasquatch (Big Foot), El Chupacabre, and even my personal favorite WEREWOLVES!!!! as well as many others
Put a creature down and explain why or why you don't you believe in it.
I'll start with werewolves. I actually DO believe in these fascinating creatures. There have been sightings of remains with human characteristics with a tail bone and enlarged wolf like skull. And everyone knows of the deaths where the body is NEVER found. thats simply because a werewolf ate it :P
-
I think dragons were real at some point. Maybe not the way we think they look, but out of all the dinosaurs that existed, one of them had to at least resemble a dragon.
I also believe vampires are real, to an extent. Not the Hollywood kind, and I think most of the "real" vampires aren't actually real.
-
I think lots of things are real, actually. It makes the world interesting >.>

Big Foot: Maybe, but very unlikely. The only explanation I can think of is a descendant from monkeys like us, but didn't evolve intelligence and kept the full body hair. But again, unlikely, I'm pretty sure we've discovered just about every species of mammal on Earth, tiny bugs and organisms are all that remain.
El Chupacabre: Hard to say, seeing how most accounts on it's physical appearance vary, but I don't think so for the same reason as Big Foot.
Were-Wolves: No. Sorry mate, but no creature can change back and forth from such two DRASTICALLY different creatures on a regular basis. Things like, hair, bones, and bone structure don't change like that very quickly.

I'm going to have to say no, Zephyr. Show me a reptile or mammal with 6 limbs and we'll talk.
Hate to be such a party pooper, but I like being the voice of reason.

Two things: one: we didn't evolve from monkeys. Us and monkeys evolved from a common ancestor.
Two: where the heck did you pull "six limbs" from?

Are you talking about "six limbs" being four legs, plus two wing arms?
Like I said, they may not have looked the way they are in pictures today. That's an important part of my sentence. They could have been something closer to wyverns, or Chinese dragons - either one still counts as a dragon to me.

Yes, wings are limbs as well.
Okay, if you exclude those kind of dragons it could work, Chinese dragons though wouldn't work too well, serpents just don't fly very well. Wyverns however are probably the most plausible kind, if as you said, they evolved from dinosaurs (In this case probably a pterodactyl).

Like winged said I don't believe they are like what Hollywood portrays them to be, they I doubt they change so frequently like that, but if you read up on them as much as I do, they seem to be more and more realistic.
They may not even be human at all, but a new breed of creatures. We have definitely not discovered all mammals and scientists even say that. Many people have supposedly encountered them, and whether or not they have, no one has actually said they have seen a transformation. So I don't believe they have much if any human in them, maybe the characteristics, but as for actually BEING human... Lycanthropy is a bunch of bull

So you're suggesting, without the transformation, some sort of half-human, half-wolf? If so, it begs the question how could it have evolved? Wolves and humans are very different creatures, two completely separate evolutionary paths. Where would a half-human, half-wolf fit in?
-
Totally believe in dragons. Werewolves, not too likely, but I'm not talking about them changing from human to wolf, I mean something like half wolf all of the time. But like I said, not too likely. And why not a dragon that breathes fire? There's the bombardier beetle that can mix two chemicals that makes a type of boiling acid liquid, so why not a lizard or dinosaur that had the same type of abilities?
People thought unicorns were most resembling a narwhal, but late last year, there was a deer with a birth defect where there was a single horn on the top of its head, so its possible that early peoples saw one in their time and said "OMG! A UNICORN!!!"
-
With the werewolf thing... it is not possible for an animal to carry a human bred creature but the other way around is possible, there are zoopheliacs out there, hope this isn't against forum rules talking bout this, but if a human female decided to carry a wolf bred child, and it managed to survive, God only knows if that's possible.
It has been done, but it died shortly after birth. If say it survived afterwords could it be possible this is our werewolf? what kind of brain would it have? the human? or the wolf? if it carried the wolf brain or even half, that could explain why it attacks other creatures.
This topic is creating a lot of dispute, however it is harmless dispute, which is what i was aiming for :)
-
i only believe in aliens for now, but dragons could have existed there is nothing unnatural about it for example: there is bug who can ''breath'' fire.
but it could not exist in this time. we would have known if a 75 foot dragon lived somewhere on this earth

I could believe that some kind of unicorn(s) have existed too.

As I understand it, this would probably be the most likely way for a werewolf type creature to happen, but in most cases the wolf and human DNA wouldn't "click" and would result in the baby's death. Getting it right would be terribly difficult.
Also, on topic of Unicorns, of all the mythical creatures discussed so far Unicorns are the most plausible. As long as only difference we're talking about is the horn I see no reason why an equine wouldn't evolve to have such a defense mechanism.
-
Yea. I think the chromosomes arn't right for wolves and humans to make a baby successfully. Even if it did survive, it would have serious birth defects, and probably die shortly after birth.
-
I believe in el chupacabra, as well as the loch ness monster. Dragons are possible, I say, and, as for vampires, I know one. He's not a sanguine vamp, but a psyvamp. If you don't believe they can drain energy, hang out with him for a bit and you'll believe it. I think he posted an intro here like last week...
As for the debate on werewolves, I would say maybe. There's a lot of stuff in this world that can't be explained, so why not?
-
I'm 99.9% sure that Nessie and Champ exist.. well kinda.. I dunno.. but I at least hope they're real. Same for Big foot and El Chupacabre. But my logic says no on werewolves, vampires, and sadly dragons. But I'd be open to the idea, I wouldn't be weirded out if one day I saw a real life unicorn walking down the street :P
-
There's no doubt in my mind Werewolves and Vampires exist...
considering I know alot of them...and I'm a Werewolf myself. No really, I'm not kidding....
As for the others, no.
-
plz... explain yourself...
Now if your talking about the logic of being connected with a wolf then yes. I am one too
-
Even though logic and evidence out-rule the existance of 99.9% of mythological creatures....I would still be happy if one day I woke up half-dragon...

Yeah same here. I would love if all those crazy things where real :3 (darn my party pooping logic!! >.<)
-
I would love it if the border between realities could be crossed and we could end up in an alternative future!

Well, we can still dream about that... I mean, there still is afterlife. You know near death experiences? Well, people who actually lived it all described how it was after, to be dead. Kids and adults, different beliefs, they all described it really similar to each other's description. Some of them were recorded, as proofs. Most of the descriptions that are remembered/recorded said it's white everywhere, a perfect landscape and stuff like that. Let's hope possibilities are infinite, shall we?
Yea. I think the chromosomes arn't right for wolves and humans to make a baby successfully. Even if it did survive, it would have serious birth defects, and probably die shortly after birth.
Like you said. The human's genetic and the wolf's aren't compatible. We're too different. You still can mess with your mind and brain to act naturally wolf-like, without acting, believing without a doubt or lying to yourself. I really don't recommend it. I tried something similar, forcing a split personnality. I ended up to near insanity, ultra violent and serious sucide thoughts. Curiosity almost killed the cat.
-
It may not be possible now but genetics are still a bib taboo subject and we might one day be able to do things like that

Oh, yeah, someday humans will go that far. I'm pretty sure. They found a way to change anything you want about you. Eye color, skin tone, hair color, everything. Well, maybe not everything, but alot. My biology teacher follows the science's progress to the second. I hope they just won't go too far, just like Einstein and his experiments... Afterall, we should learn from our mistakes, not smile and wave at them...

They've haven't found a way to change you. They can change a developing baby, I believe that's what are were referring to.
-
Unfortunately, I don't not believe many of our 'mythological' creatures really exist, but I do think they are founded on some solid evidence, or at least creative reasoning, for the sciences and beliefs that were available at the time of thier incarnations. The dragon, for example, I think arose from the finding of dinosaur fossils and bones. Werewolves and vampires, from a dogmaitic fear of different cultures and superstition. Nessie and bigfoot/sasquatch/yeti , however, I think have the best chance of existing, sasquatch a little more so.
All of this is not so say that we should not embrace these gifts that many cutlures have passed down to us, though. I consider them a heritage of our imaginations, and they are more awesome than many mundane real-life things. I don't think they are any less enjoyable for being real or not.
-
Well, if you include cultures...then there should be evidence of a dragon existing in the dark ages, King arthur Era....but like you said, it could just be exaggerations and pure imagination....would still pwn if dragons existed...
-
Zombies.
It's possible, if you've looked into it as much as I have.
-
I'm apparently a Z+ certified zombie hunter, according to a quiz
-
i can actually believe zombies, not the undead, but virus infected.
vampires seem plausible too, i mean we have cannibals, vampires are technically a step below that then.
-
Zombies are easy to believe in. But like Gölge said, not the undead kind.
-
They've haven't found a way to change you. They can change a developing baby, I believe that's what are were referring to.
Well, I just said what my teacher said. But I think it's much more possible on babies, the genetics aren't always fixed at that time. I guess you're right.
-
Zombies are easy to believe in. But like Gölge said, not the undead kind.
Well it depends on the type of zombie, the shamblers (might not be 'undead') or the ones like in 28 Days Later.
the Shambling kind is a little easier to believe in, because a disease could knock out some systems like the vocal cords.
The 28 Days Later zombies seem too 'over the top' mainly because they can throw up infected blood, and that's highly unprobable for a sustained infectious period because the host for the virus could die of blood loss.
-
28 days later was a good movie, but i agree with Golge, zombies, to a certain extent, are possibly real. And yes vampires seem to be possible. There are, surprisingly, bar that actually serve BLOOD! Tell me that's not CREEPY, or a hint.
-
*sits down and rocks back and forth paranoid* I believe in werewolves with a passion... Ask me or Comet sometime and we'll tell you just why... *whimpers*
-
please elaborate...
-
You wouldn't believe me most likely... Do you got an MSN?
-
((sadly no... just pm me... trust me... i've seen some pretty shocking things...))
I believe in demons! I have seen some pretty crazy STUFF!
-
I believe in Chaos and how it's not random happenstance, but actually an elemental power, which we as humans can't comprehend, I also believe that the future will be AWESOME!!!!
please try to dissuade me, I DARE YE!
-
How do you know if the future will be awsome while you're alive?
-
Ghosts and spirits seem fairly realistic in my world...
the way I see it at least.
And this hasn't been just recently.... it's happened since I was younger. I just denied their existence.
-
I totally believe in spirits, but I think they are more of an 'essence' that can be felt and perceived rather than actually exist.
-
Oh I believe in ghosts and spirits and demons(kinda)! I'm just really scared of them..>.>; but if I wasn't it would be awesome to be a ghost hunter! :D
-
I believe in Unicorns. They date back to the earliest civilizations in one form or another! From the Chi-lin of China to the Unicorns of India,Rome,Europe, and the Middle East. There are also the modern sightings In the Harz Mountains of Germany. With so many accounts through time it stands to reason Unicorns are REAL!!
