Hi :) I'm a college student, doing a paper for my Inquiry into Queerness English class. It's about sexuality and gender, and I'm writing my second paper on, you guessed it, Furries. I have become interested in the culture, and I wanted to learn something new... so, here goes!
My paper is a Qualitative Research paper--that is, I have to interview people. There are no Furries around campus, so I was hoping I could conduct some online interviews, because my teacher really loves my topic.
So! I just wanted to know if it would be all right to post on here? I just have a shortish list of interview questions, and then I'll be gone. I don't want to be in the way, but I haven't really found a lot of information, and the deadline is approaching swiftly :x
Please let me know!
Thank you very much :)

It's fine, as long as you're respectful. Go ahead and list your questions for us.

Oh, thank you very much! *happy dance*
These are my professor-approved questions, so I hope they're good!
1. How do you describe your sexual orientation as a Furry? Does Furry take the place of, or is it an addition to, your orientation?
2. When and how did you realize you were a Furry?
3. What factors, if any, influenced this?
4. How did you define your fursona?
5. Do many people know about your orientation?
6. What is the difference between fur suits and simple ears and tail?
7. How are you treated by non-Furries?
8. What is your perception of the general public's opinion on Furries?
9. Do you believe this will change over time?
10. Define Furry, in your own words.
If you want to answer any of these at all, I'd be very happy :D Also, if you want to say anything else, please feel free :) I don't know much at all about Furries, so this paper is mostly blank at the moment. Any insights would be extremely helpful!
I'm very interested in this culture, I'll say again. I find it very appealing :)

I do seem to recall somebody doing a similar thing here asking questions and such for some work. I'll be happy to answer your questions, but would you prefer to hame them sent via PM or on this thread?

1. In addition to. The Furry-ness is more of a hobby or turn-on, that applies to what ever orientation you might be, in my opinion
2. When? About 2 or three years ago. How? Well, I honestly can't remember much, but I specifically don't remember it being spurred by a single event, so if I were to guess I stumbled across furies on the internet, Liked it, and joined them. A rather boring story if you ask me, but Occam's Razor I guess.
3. Redwall, My sister especially liked Redwall, and I would say it is a contributing factor.
4. (Using my otter fursona) Again, my sister in her obsession with Redwall at the time made "fursona's" (She didn't think of it like that, she just thought of it as our Redwall alter-ego's) for us. My Brother and I were otters and she named me Seafur. I forgot about this whole thing until I heard about furries, and when I thought about a fursona Seafur came to mind.
5. I would like to ask for clarification on this. Do you mean sexual preference or our furryness?
6. Fursuits denote a much more devoted furry, someone who is fun-loving and likes to be in the center of the fun. While the ears and a tail (which I would probably prefer) denotes a more conservative "I'm a furry, but not radical about it" kind of person.
7. Not many know, simply because I don't find it too incredibly important to bring up, but my family is understanding and respectful if a bit wary. And my friends like to tease me about it, but in a good-natured way.
8. Most people have never heard of a furry, but those who have probably heard it from that CSI episode and the like, therefore probably giving them a rather negative pre-disposition .
9. No
10. A furry is someone who enjoys anthropomorphic art, but only you really choose to be a furry or not.
Well, I hoped you liked that interview from the resident decepticon here. Good luck on your paper!

Oooooh. Spread the Furry facts, eh? I'm PM you on this.

1. How do you describe your sexual orientation as a Furry? Does Furry take the place of, or is it an addition to, your orientation? I'm straight. Being a Furry has no effect on my orientation...I was straight before, I'm still straight now.
2. When and how did you realize you were a Furry? I realized I was a Furry about a year and a half ago because I really like animals and I like characters in shows that kind of look like animals. I also like the idea of having a tail because I think they're cute (if there is fur on them).
3. What factors, if any, influenced this? It's just my personal likes.
4. How did you define your fursona? Going with my main fursona which is an Arctic Wolf, I basically picked it because it is an animal that I love and I have traits in common with it.
5. Do many people know about your orientation? Everybody knows I'm straight, only one person knows I'm a Furry.
6. What is the difference between fur suits and simple ears and tail? A fursuit covers the whole body, you could compare it to the mascot outfits you see at schools. Ears and a tail are just that, only ears and a tail and nothing more.
7. How are you treated by non-Furries? Fine, because only one person knows I'm a Furry and he's one too.
8. What is your perception of the general public's opinion on Furries? Some people have no idea what Furries are and others think that Furries are a bunch of perverts who like to yiff all the time, then there's a smaller amount of people who actually understand what they are.
9. Do you believe this will change over time? I surely hope so. As long as people are told the actual full truth about Furries, it should change over time, because every Furry's personality, preferences, and opinion on what being a Furry consists of is different.
10. Define Furry, in your own words. A Furry is a person who has a general interest in the Furry Fandom, whether it be anthropomorphic art or just animals in general. It basically just depends on the Furry.

1. How do you describe your sexual orientation as a Furry? Does Furry take the place of, or is it an addition to, your orientation? I'm asexual, and have been that way since before I even knew about furries- so being furry did not affect it at all.
2. When and how did you realize you were a Furry? About a year ago, when I first discovered the term and community online. I'd always pictured myself like that, and it just sorta clicked that "furry" described me.
3. What factors, if any, influenced this? Ever since seeing the animal-people of ancient Egypt, Ive been fascinated by anthropomorphism. I started to picture myself as that even before I knew of the fandom.
4. How did you define your fursona? I'd always loved mustelids and things with hooves, so I combined them XD
5. Do many people know about your orientation? Very, very few.
6. What is the difference between fur suits and simple ears and tail? Ears and tail are the basic parts that are considered "furry", and fursuits just take it further.
7. How are you treated by non-Furries? The exact same way I'm treated by Furs.
8. What is your perception of the general public's opinion on Furries?
9. Do you believe this will change over time? Well, once more people know I'm furry, it might go a titch downhill.
10. Define Furry, in your own words. You can enjoy anthro art without being a furry- you choose the label yourself, and generally furries identify themselves with an anthro alter-ego-type-deal.
