Title: Has this happened to you?
Post by: NekoOtome on March 26, 2009, 04:13:01 AM
Okay, so yesterday I was watching some animal planet show about when animals attack or something, and this one part came up that involved a puma that attacked a man up in Vancouver. I was watching intently to see what happened, and the guy was all of the sudden like "and then I grabbed my knife and began stabbing at its paws, then slit its throat..." Then they talked about how "the mortally wounded cougar fell to the ground," and then went and showed a friggen picture of the body! I know it was self defense, but I was heartbroken seeing my favorite animal covered in blood on the ground like that. Has anyone else felt the same way if they saw a story that involved their animal being killed?

Favorite animals are Fox, Wolf, and Dog... And I've seen far too many Wolves and Dogs dying... Period. It almost makes me sad.

Even though it is self defense they shouldn't show it off like some trophy or anything one of mens downfalls is their pride sometimes... it just saddens me

Yeah, me too  :'(. It's very sad to hear about any animal being killed in such a way. Hunting for the heck of it too is just as bad, especially when they broadcast THAT on T.V. I don't know about other satellite channels, but dish network has a whole channel dedicated to sport hunting...

With me, it doesn't matter if it's my absolute favorite animal.
I love all animals and seeing any of them dead, especially shown as trophies, is an issue with me.
Mounted heads or full bodies of animals bug me.
Seeing pictures or video footage of dead animals saddens me.
It's just wrong.
It's not really done with humans (except for those who are sick in the head) so it shouldn't be done with animals.

I agree there. It hurts seeing any animal shown off like that, my friend and I were at this one convention and we found this one stand that had it all... skins of N. American animals, skulls of various animals, furry clothing articles, and a giant stuffed mountain lion looming over it all... it made us both angry and sick at the same time

they stabbed a chameleon with a spear, it was an older movie so something tells me it was a real one too.

i was pretty angry

......It makes me sad to see any animal die, even if it was in self-defence. But then he acts like he did something and shows it off like a trophy? From what it sounds like, this BARLEY made it out alive, so he has no grounds to brag. Sometimes I wonder how the human race got this far..... :(

Ya, sometimes I doubt humans so much. As for that guy, he was about seventy years old and made it out with only one eye left. He did almost die, and it was for self defense, but its still saddening that they showed its body and narrated its death.

it makes me so sad, seeing wolves die. i saw an entire site tht was bout the abuse of wolves in alaska and i seriously cried, the people had them tied to sticks and were showing them off and smiling. those kind of people need the same thing done to them as they do to animals

*hugs Donovan and Noke* geez, why do people show stuff like that off?! Wolf and puma hunting methods are both equally horrible there. With mountain lions, the hunters have their dogs tree the poor thing, then they shoot it out and keep shooting it as it tries desperately to get away. Then they take pics of the body hanging up with them smiling and doing the thumbs up

Ditto. But then I think about other things, like if they have a mate and friends waiting for them and how it would be the same thing that they put the animal through. AND I'd get arrested too. >_>

I could never actually hurt anyone. Generally I'm not that malicious either, but sometimes its just too horrible the things that happen to animals out there just trying to live their lives.

If it pains you SO MUCH your a perfect candidate for Greenpeace or PETA. crud, if i had it my way I would be sitting on the planes of africa with a M14 DMR .308 calibre sniper rifle following cheetahs. (protecting them) [removed]

I joined and quit PETA in 30min flat. They were rude. Very. Rude. And after reading up on their ideals, I just didn't agree with some of them.

I see dead squirrels all the time, I'm not really bothered that much by dead animals. I mean its sad and all depending on circumstances, but you cant prevent everything and cant change everyone's mind. I wear a fox tail which I received from a long expired fox from the 70's which was being sold on ebay, he finds used old furs, refurbishes them and sells them to prevent the killing of more animals for the same product. I do small amounts of taxidermy myself from animals found on the roads. Im on the fence about animal hunting, if all their parts are used then I have no problem with it, if its just for the fur then Im against it. There isnt much of a difference with the cows you eat and the deer getting shot, its just rare to display the cow in taxidermy. Farm animals get torchured more often and far worse than wild animals shot for their skin. Take things with a grain of sand, or the entire world is going to look like hell.

The only kind of trophy thing I was ever proud of was my best friend's stuffed wolf cub. She didn't want to let it go and when Cain got out of the yard, he was run over by a truck and Lily cried forever.... I wanted to make it up to her so I took Cain to my uncle and had him stuffed for her. She's never been happier.

I mean, yea you can't prevent EVERYTHING, but it would help to stop things we can. I agree with taking animals that are already dead, or leather because we're going to eat them anyway, but we have our place, so an animal should have their place.

A big issue I have is the hunting for furs, that's just unnecessary. Granted we do need to regulate the population but only if we can control ourselves. The waste products of the human race is embarrassing.
Title: Re: Has this happened to you?
Post by: Umber on April 08, 2009, 02:40:07 AM
No kidding, killing for fur is senseless. And we dont need to regulate populations of anything, eventually given enough time (like 10-20yrs) the populations that "need" regulating will regulate themselves. This holds true to coyotes, wolves, etc. Humans didnt regulate populations before, they dont need to now.
Title: Re: Has this happened to you?
Post by: ___ on April 08, 2009, 03:12:27 AM
If anything, we need to regulate our populations. Wether you want to admit it or not, there IS a carrying capacity for us, and the quality of life will diminish as our numbers increase.

I completely agree. If I see one more picture of wolf's fur being sold on the internet, I'm going to scream.
I've cried over the issue, actually. My Biology teacher last year and I still talk about it to this day. Poaching makes us disgusted.

Sometimes the human race is embarassing. Especially then they stuff animals, then dress them up weird for souveniers

The ones I've seen used were the ones that had washed up way on shore and had no chance of returning. My friend's dad ran a seashell shack along Jupiter Beach when we were younger..

Ok, I'm peeved now, so let me tell you what happened.
So my little brother was telling my mom about what they did out side, and I was listening too, and he said that he and his friends were having a picnic, and there were ants ant they were going to crawl on them. He and his demon spawn friends poured hot water on them and stomped on the poor ants. And I said "I hate when people mess with animals and things that arn't messing with them. How would you feel if I poured hot water on you?" And my mother started yelling at me "What's wrong with you? Always going on a soapbox rant when it dosn't matter."
My thing is now, just because they're ants that their life hase no value? And to kill something over something as small as "They were crawling all over me" AND you were in their range, outdoors. If an ant comes inside my home, I'd probally just put it outside, but I say that you have every right to get rid of them, but you have no such right when your in their territory. (Spits) I hate my brother... My dad understands though. ^_^

You could have made a comment such as "There are millions of us, our lives dont matter either, but you dont see anyone going around killing hundreds of us because we are inconvienent... oh wait? Didnt we do that to the Native Americans? But they were savages werent they?"

People bug me when they think they are more signifigant than another animal. Sure Ive killed bugs and spiders, but I also dont think that I am any better than the creatures, they just tend to be the ones that bite me.

She would have sent me to an asylum... (No really, she would have... -_-) But its true. Humans value other humans above all other life because were kin in species, but when you take yourself out of that, then all lives are equal in a sense and life shouldn't be taken away so lightly. You get it?
Title: Re: Has this happened to you?

I agree there
life goes with the 'pest' animals being needlessly killed. Thats why the big North American predators are all endangered...
Title: Re: Has this happened to you?
Post by: Umber on April 13, 2009, 03:40:54 PM
:< Millions of coyotes get gunned down from helicopters by sharp shooters, their bodies left to rot in the sun, for 'control' purposes... but their populations would regulate themselves if given the chance to do so... coyotes breed excessively when their numbers are down and more territory opens up for the taking. They really do regulate their own populations.. they dont just keep breeding excessively, they breed less when there isnt as much territory for the taking or enough food. But Wildlife Regulations will never hear that blasphemy and allows unlimited bag 'limit' coyote hunting all year for most states.

The carnivores are SORRY they eat 'YOUR' deer too!

Us humans (Well, most anyway) have a choice to either go to the store and buy some meat, or to go out and shoot something, but animals don't have that choice. Its not fair to them that we can do both, not one or the other and they have to deal with all this nonsense that we created.
