Wearing my collar, drawing animals/anthros, acting catlike sometimes (usually not in front of people I don't know though) by meowing and stuff. That's about it.

Well I tell pretty much everyone I meet in Tumwater something along the lines of, "Hi, I'm Donovan, local Furry". 50% of them are confused or don't care, 40% say cool, 10% are stereotyping stinkers. I also have a friend who might make me a Furry shirt.

In person & online I am, surprisingly, very affection with ma'dawgs.
:B
I cuddle, snuggle, lick, bite, push.

All I do is act like a cat, purring and nuzzling. Though I do have the tendency to throw out my meaner side, i.e wolf. I tend to roughhouse with my dogs in a way no one else in my family can and when I say enough, they listen. I purr, nuzzle, like, bite (sometimes), and otherwise act how I like in the furry manner. No one seems to care that I am one. Everyone here think it's cool.

(i wear collars too, chains and all)

I've been caught crouching on fences, unfindable in hide-and-seek as I prowl silently anywhere in bounds, unbeatable in tag when I spring at the runners and doing crazy leaps away from taggers, and I'm an undectable assassin on the Airsoft battlefield. I also spar using bamboo with a friend of mine, and I take a digitigrade-like stance, just slightly less bent legs, to pounce at a distance. I'm proud to be the Wolf of the neighborhood.

Wearing my collar, my binders at school, pins on my backpack, almost everything on the internet I do, my drawings, my stories, etc.

My friends and I even created a small furry club, because there's actually alot of us where I live. :P
And one of the furries in our club posts here quite a bit. Her name's Yumé. :3

I'm kind of the same way.....the furry side comes out more when I'm alone then around other people.
The occasional howls, growls, and meows happen sometimes though. o.o;;
Most of my really good friends either understand, or they do it too....so hiding it around them is pointless.

But teachers and other people always ask what's up with my collar....
I just say "Eh, I'm weird."

That's the way to think, King! Hmmm... Just another three or four years and I can get a job as a game designer... Money supreme... and get myself one. I only wish I had a way to get a Fursuit right now, or yes, at the very least a collar!

I made a song called "Wolf in Washington" and I sing bits of it when I'm doing anything that calls for a quote, generally jogging. No, you can't hear it yet, unfortunately, because I have no way of recording it. Soon, buddies, soon.

'Cause this Wolf in Washington ain't your everyday mutt...

I don't show my furry side, I'm a fur strictly on the internet. Dealing with furs and 'furry acting' people in person has made me not want to be/act furry. In fact I have grown to find people who act furry quite irritating. But thats just me.

You're my HERO! :D That's amazing, I wanna be able to do that. I'm actually in my photo class right now, and this isn't a class that stares at me too much....but I'm in a math class full of freshman, so you can only imagine. I said it to this guy's face last period actually.

Me: "Why are you staring at me?"
Boy: "Cause....you're....weird." (he laughs)
Me: "I am weird. I like it."

I must say I was quite content after that. And then, practically the whole class was staring at me. It was hilarious. BTW, I'm wearing my spiked collar too. Explains alot, huh? XD

Well.....

I don't really care what other people think and normally ignore them when they say things I don't particularly like. If I'm talked about, I see it as an "At least you know me." kind of thing. Otherwise, I'd be a little off-kilter. Besides, why care when, six years from now, none of it's going to matter?

I take offense to that. I'm not that overboard. Everyone thinks it's cute when I mew or purr.... And my tail is 'hot', as I'm told more often than I care to say.. >.>

Well thats too bad. I hold fast to my ideas of the furry community, all of which have been brought on by being part of the dregs of furry society for 5 years. I have become soured to the fandom and to people who act furry by the fandom and peopel who act furry. I don't find purring cute, nore do I use words like 'paws' and 'yiff'. I'm not going to change my opinion because it offends people.

Tails and ears ARE hot, and those sounds ARE adorable/sweet. Furry actions make my day, everyday. But, agreeably, if EVERY Fur was like that, we would have a stereotyping problem, wouldn't we? I do not like being stereotyped... So thanks for that one Scheer; I'd murr and glomp ya' but you don't want that do ya'?
Title: Re: Your Furry Side
Post by: Crass1905 on March 11, 2009, 12:31:05 AM
No, thank you though, but I dont care for people touching me. Which is actually entirely unrelated to the fandom.
Title: Re: Your Furry Side
Post by: Dog Donovan on March 11, 2009, 12:39:00 AM
Not completely unrelated or related really. The general Furry hugs and scritches and whatever far more than the general Non-Fur. Although in no way do all of them do so, want to do so, or like to see others do so... as you. No problems, just on a base, Furries do actually get together closely.

Post by: Alter Insatiable on March 11, 2009, 01:09:56 AM
I actually let a lot of my friends know I'm a furry, but I do not express it much outside of my few friends. I wear a tail when my semi-furry friends are over, but none of them are actually in the fandom, just recognize it and sometimes talk about it. None of my RL friends are furries so I have to do most of it on the net such as here and browsing certain websites with art.

I wish I could go to a con.
Title: Re: Your Furry Side
Post by: Dog Donovan on March 11, 2009, 01:14:13 AM
I'm thinking I really need to show I'm a Furry. Because there is no doubt in my mind there are several Furries in my town, and several that want to be Furries but aren't sure there are others to be Furries with.

I'm going to a Furry Convention first chance I get. Hopefully one of the UK ones or the Philedelphia one... Or more likely, the more local Seattle, Washington one... the RainFurrest. I wonderz if Griever knows about it...?

If you see it as an insult, then ask them why they care so much how you dress. "Does my refusal to be conformal upset them because I'm standing out or are you just that disgusted by change?" "Why is it always weird to be different when difference is inevitable and should be respected?" "How old are you anyway? Seven? Eight?"

And my personal favorite,

"I'd rather be a lion, leading my own way, than a sheep, blindly following into the lion's mouth."

I've always been told I act animal-like. I guess you could say that's a gargoyle thing, because gargoyles/grotesques are based off of animal "stereotypes", and I very much am an animal stereotype in behavior. I chew, I growl, and I have those intense gargoyle eyes. I'm also a protective, loving person. I enjoy being a guardian of my friends, and have once saved a life (literally).

All in all, my "gargoyleness" shows up behaviorally, other than occasionally wearing a tail or wings.

Nova, I agree.

Like a wolf, I'm a loving and loyal person. I'm very much a pack leader, and also love meat and the kill. I have alot of physical characteristics of a wolf too....especially my big blue eyes and my blonde hair that one of my friends says looks like a wolf's "mane". ^^  There's alot of mental similarities also. Although some say wolves don't react to the moon, I surely do. I love taking walks at night. I love nature. Every time I take an animal quiz, I'm always a wolf.
There's no doubt in my mind that I'm a wolf.

Ehhh, I don't really tend to show my furry side... my parents, as well as the little bitty town I live in, make fun of people for every last thing that isn't conformist. Heck, I've been mocked for reading a book that wasn't Twilight, so I really don't care to know how everyone would react to that  :th_PyongLlora:.

Psh. Break free and ignore it. They're just frightened by your containing the gene 'I-don't-give-a-rep'. The jealousy is superficial and once they get used to you acting that way, it'll be normal. If they never get used to it, screw them. There's better people out there anyway.

Oh, make no mistake. I am not conformist in any way, whatsoever. Buuut I'd rather not show all of myself and wind up like the dude that got beat up for being himself, then told to "man up" by nearby people. I do not enjoy pain. And also, I would probably get pissed, fight back, and get blamed for the whole thing.

Better idea then. You are female, correct?

good. Now three easy steps to start off with.

1. begin to let more of yourself show
2. when people make like they're upset about it, walk away
3. most importantly; NEVER, EVER let someone tell you how to act.
there is absolutely no reason for such ignorance.

Nor is it their right to dictate how you respond to your environments. Let them try to bring you down, they fight physically, fight mentally. They say something, ignore it. They do something to tick you off, brush it off. Nothing gets under their skin better than if you act as though you could care less. Trust me, I was on both sides of the spectrum and I've learned my lesson. I don't care if they ridicule me, nor do I torment others for who they are. I may make cute little comments about friends' odder sides but it is pure fun and if we offend each other, we make up.

I don't like to hear someone being made fun of because they're different, it's RIDICULOUS. Someone gets on your case, send them to me. I will gladly straighten them out with a word or two. I am not a very violent person (even if I come off that way) unless I decide there's no other way to solve an issue. Do your best to fix it peacefully and, if nothing else helps, knock the biggest one down and the rest will back out.

To the first question: yeah, I'm a girl.

The thing is, its not a single group. Well, it is, but said group encompasses a heck of a lot of people. I'm fine with being a bit more myself in front of a couple friends who really couldn't give a crap, but I'm afraid of people otherwise. Like, you can pretty much reduce me to a tearful, shaking blob of jelly if you raise your voice slightly, look angry, look displeased in any fashion, or seem to disapprove of me. Aaaand they have figures that out. I don't let people tell me how to act, but I'll be too scared of them to do anything they don't like in the first place. I do walk away, but I encounter the same people all the time.

I wish I could come over there. I tend to be... persuasive. No violence! I swear!

But yeah, I'm sick of seeing Furiends tormented, and I plan on doing more about it when I'm older.

On a side note: There's no Hot Topic here in Tumwater... That makes me sad.

Then begin to change. I was shy when I first started really encountering people and I got pushed one too many time. Now I'm completely dominant. I don't take no for an answer and I am really hard to get along with if you like control. I'll show you how I was back then, let me find my picture....

Yeah Bovine, don't let them get to you....
I'm kinda going through the same thing and right now, King is my hero :3
Things are starting to get easier because everytime someone looks at me wrong, I ignore them or stare back.
This is all because they think I'm "weird". Mainly for my collar obsession.
Lately if I walk into class without one, everyone stares at me like why am I NOT wearing one?
I hope things stay that way, because its starting to slowly get better. And I need to stop being so self-concious, that's a personal problem. Once that's over and I can be stubborn and show them I don't care they ridicule me, then I will fully be at peace.  :P

First rule of thumb: admitting you are self-conscious. Afterward, the going gets easier. Remember though, it's got to get rough before it get smooth.

Yea. I've been getting better. I used to never talk to anyone that I didn't know through a friend but now... :)
But I have a ways to go...
I want a collar! (AND they look cool too^^)

It's going to be a bumpy road, that's for sure.

Hehe yup. I love collars!  :D
I think I have 6 or 7 different ones now, and little charms and tags too<3

Same here. I wear one everywhere. And if I forget, I feel like part of me is gone.
Except in water, like you said. I don't want them getting rusty D:

Lots of Fox, Wolf, and Dog sounds.
Facepaw, not facepalm.
Referring to feet and hands often as paws... hair as fur... nails as claws... teeth as fangs...

Strangely, I've been withdrawn alot lately too.
I'm usually the one dancing on the table at lunch singing Lion King songs...
Lately, I've been down and quiet O_o

Fantastic. T_T

Oh well, usually I get over things like this fairly quick...
Colds usually only last a week on me, usually. I'll sleep this one out, and take some medicine. Eat good foods, not junk. Etc.

I actually don't do much to show off my furry side.  It's kind of sad actually.  I probably don't really show it off too much for fear of my parents finding out about it.  I told all my friends at school however that I was a furry and they said it didn't bother them at all.
Title: Re: Your Furry Side
Post by: Dr. Strange on March 28, 2009, 09:24:19 PM
Why would it bother your parents?
Title: Re: Your Furry Side
Post by: ★Kuro★ on March 28, 2009, 09:25:06 PM
Don't let what people say get to you.
My parents barely understand what it means to be a furry. I'm sure they have a negative opinion on it, but they're so flipping old, they think its something all kids do these days. They're ignorant to everything I do and its meaning.

Btw, what animal are you Petrie?
Title: Re: Your Furry Side
Post by: Petrie on March 28, 2009, 09:39:37 PM
I know I shouldn't let it bother me and I don't know why I do but I will tell them sooner or later.  I've been thinking alot actually about what animal I am.  Turns out it was fairly obvious.  I have always had an extreme fascination with red foxes ever since I played my first sonic the hedgehog game when i was little.  Tails was always my favorite.  so yea I'm a red fox.

Well its good you found what you are. ^^
I actually used to pretend I was Sonic.... mainly Shadow though.
I was ALWAYS a male character! I still do it though, to this day.
I've always wanted to be male.

If I was a Land before time character, I would see myself as Little Foot. The main character. It always suits me best because I'm a leader!

lol what a coincidence! I always used to pretend I was a male character too!  Also I really have no clue why Petrie was always my favorite land before time character but he just was.  I was always so happy when he finally learned to fly.

Wait, you're a female? Or are you a male that just likes always being male? XD
Awww, I loved Petrie! I liked Ducky too, though.
My cousin liked to call me Cera, because I used to be bossy when I was little.  :P
Title: Re: Your Furry Side
Post by: Petrie on March 28, 2009, 10:17:43 PM
lol I'm a male.  I never pretended to be any female characters.  I'm also debating over the fact if I'm good or evil.  Everytime I ever watched dora the explorer I always wanted swiper to steal whatever dora had.  Or actually maybe I always rooted for swiper because he was a red fox.  I never thought of that.

Ah, could be either.
I'm half good and half evil.... I'm a Libra, I need balance afterall! ^_^
Hm, usually I'm the hero of the story though. The dark hero. Like Batman!
I have a pessimistic outlook, yet I always end up the hero and winning.
Maybe you just like him cause he's a fox. :3
Title: Re: Your Furry Side

yea maybe it is.  there's nothing better than a fox with a blue mask that loves to steal stuff.  even if he immediately throws it away afterwards.

Agreed!!!
I liked Diego's little cat thing...I think its a Cheetah actually. O.o
That explains it! Cause I am a Cheetah furry too, afterall. ^^
I'm starting to like blue foxes....I just don't know if I should add them to my list of fursonas or not.

I draw furry art, have drawn it forevers! I have been wearing a tail on and off for the past year, recently I wear a collar almost 24-7 (except at work), the tail I wear when not at school, work, or with certain friends (who might be less accepting). My AIM avi is of my sona, I mew(not necessarily a mew but cute small noises), hiss, growl, grind my teeth when aggrivated. Im open to several non-furry friends (who guessed it anyway) about it. I have lots of plush animal dolls. I would have a fursuit if I had the money for it.
