Title: The silence of abandon.
Post by: Jaraith on January 01, 2009, 07:52:15 AM
In the year 1912, a disease origionating from Eastern Europe spread rapidly throughout the continent, spreadint to Asia, the Middle East, Africa and the numerous Island chains surrounding.
The disease only affects adults past the age of 20, due to a specific chemical balance and combination in the system that allows the virus to fully infiltrate the human body. It deforms the outer layer of skin until it is similar to sack cloth and gains a khaki coloring. The limbs become elongated and gain thick black claws, as well as a second pair of arm like appendages below the rib cage. All facial features are gone and instead appear as though the material were drawn over a screaming person's face. The legs become much more muscular and bluish, the muscles decaying and rapidly healing over short periods of time.

Through years of quarentine, the disease was kept at bay, and not a single case was reported in the Americas for another decade.

1922, it arrived. Within three years, the entire adult population was gone, replaced by the 'mourners' as they are known. The cities are now home only to "the Orphans" the name given by themselves to themselves, the surviving children of the long gone adults. They live by day alone, for the Mourners cower from sunlight. They fight for every day, and forrage for what is left, because no one is making food or medicine anymore.

The elders, or children beyond the age of 16, are ostrasized, or in some cases made into supreme leaders and gatherers, till they are infected by a Mourner, which is seen as an inevitability.

You, are an Orphan.

The west coas was one of the few areas that werent hit hard, the adult population managing to set up systems of care for after they were gone.

Pick a city to live in.

The Fortress Fransisco (Former San Fransisco Bay Area)
The Angelless City (Former Los Angeles Area)
San Diego's graveyard (Former San Diego Area)
Democratic Republic of California, Military outpost 1776 (US Army base outside of San Diego)
Townsend 1 (Farming Community, used as a supply depot, completely abandoned except for vagrants)
Townsend 2 (Destroyed Naval base, ship hulls used as shelter)
Townsend 3 (Scattered homes in Dessert dunes)
Ghost Town BU (Small farming community, used as a night time rest station, irrigation ditches filled with "Sick Fuel" to keep the mourners at bay)
The One True Capitol (Sacramento, fully stocked, well protected and completely Mourner Free, garrisoned by the last of the elders and populated by many orphans)

Pick your designation:
Settler (private weapons, gatherers)
Soldier (Highly trained, well armed, Few in number but elite)
Militiamen (Lightly armed, poorly trained)
Frontiersman (Hunter, Gatherer, Scout)
Elder (Oldest children, usually leaders or outcasts)
Light man (people who run messages and small ammounts of supplies through the night using heavily lit carrivans of the few servicable motor-cars)

Name: apollo anu
Age: (Cannot go above 19) 15
Designation: frontiersman
City: townsend 3
Personal Info: apollo can shift nto feral creatures, but whle she is changed she has no opposible thumbs, (unless it's some kind of creatures that has thumbs) and she can't speak in human toung while she is changed, also she is aan odd green palor so fitting in with all the other creatures is nigh impossible.

apollo scanned the desert from up above as a falcon, scanning the almost endless dunes, she had been up for a while, scarching for mourners or at least something edible. she looked down and saw a small band of scorpions, and smiled. she dove down to get them, she shifted into her human form as she landed, her green har slighthy messed up from flight. she picked up her knife and a rock and got to the scorpions. after a few minutes she had the tails off and in a bag for further trransport home, where she stayed with a few other ppl stuck like her in this predicament. she tied the bag to her back and shifted into a couger and started running home. she couldn't fly with 12 scorpions on her back after all, what falcon could. and she felt like running the dunes like she used to before the mourners  came.

Name: Foxx
Age: (Cannot go above 19) 15
Designation: Settler
City: The Angelless City
Personal Info: Foxx is one of the oldest furs in his city, but he is not the leader. He helps the young furs, and protects them when there's problems. He wields a sword and fights very well.

Foxx is over a rock watching the younger furs play before nightfall. He looks at the sun.
We still have about two hours., he thinks, sitting.
Some furs come near him.
"Hey, Foxx", a young fur says to him, "Come train with us, before the sun sets."
Foxx laughs softly.
"Ok. You guys get ready then."
"Yes!"
Foxx jumps off the rock and starts explaining how they should stand in a fight and how to manage a sword.

Name: Sakamoto Kumiko (Kumi-chan)
Age: 15
Designation: Lightman
City: Ghost Town BU
Personal Info: Kumiko is very shy and, even for a meerkat, quite small, being the runt. She took the duties of the Lightman because her left eye is sensitive to sunlight, which was brought about by severe stress-induced headaches. After the eye turned white she covered it with bandages so as not to scare people, but she sometimes wears sunglasses if she can find some that arn't broken. Kumi-chan is quick on her feet and knows many different languages but it all goes to waste as she doesn't speak very often... She was the youngest of her family with four older brothers, all who became Mourners. The last relics she has from a 'normal life' are the small knife her brother gave her and a small pendant with a scorpion trapped in plasti-glass, which she wears around her neck and never takes off.

Kumiko took a quick glace about her. She stood at the very edge of Ghost Town BU, as she did on some nights, and stared out at the twilight view. The Mourners hadn't come out yet but they would soon, that was for certain; and soon she, too, would have to come out from her home. A place she hid from the Mourners in the day, Kumi was meant to sleep during the day but her insomnia was terrible.
She was set to head out to another post and deliver some supplies. It wasn't much really so not many people would be looking for Mourners. In her hands she held some medicinal supplies, which were needed in the Angelless City. The car was parked and ready to go. She had made some lanterns to surround it for extra protection. Though night had once been precious, even it's cold embrace was nigh enough to lift her paranoia.
Kumiko stepped up beside the motor-car and prepared for her trip...

Name: Sahar Akura (Sara-Keir)
Age: (Cannot go above 19) 16
Designation: Settler
City: Townsend 2
Personal Info: Sahar is well-known with Mourners. Her parents became them when she was fifteen, a year ago. Her figure is quite small, only standing at five four. Doesn't really talk much, knows a little french and some German.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sahar looked around the yard she was in and sighed, her hair blown into her face by the wind. The younger kids played hide-and-seek while she sat in the naval plane bordering their boundaries. As the sun set, she whistled and rounded them up, ushering them into one of the ships.
Name: Kiana
Age: 18.
Designation: Elder, more of an outcast-ish type than a leader.
City: The One True Capitol.
Personal Info: Kiana (a cheetah) was pretty much left alone once the disease hit America. Her whole family (grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, and brother) and her mate contracted the disease since they were all over 20. Since she lost so many people especially the man she loved most in the world, that's why she became more of an outcast than a leader. She already felt like a Mourner, feeling so alone and everything, even though she had two years to go on it. She did try to keep her hopes up though and have fun while she could.
===============================================================================
Kiana walked the streets of the city, watching the younger children playing together. They looked so carefree and happy. She smiled slightly as she watched them but was brought out of it when something hit her foot. "Hey! Kick it over here!" A little boy yelled excitedly. Kiana looked at the boy and then down at what looked to be an old soccer ball. She rolled her foot over the ball and dribbled it between her feet a little before lightly kicking the ball to the boy. "Thanks!" He said as he stopped it with his foot before passing it to another kid. "No problem." Kiana said and continued on her way. She looked up at the darkening sky. "Not too long now..."
Name: Smidge
Age: 10
Designation: Militiamen ((later a soldier hopefully ^^))
City: townsend 2
Personal Info: Smidge has special gloves that use fire, they are used through her energy and she can eother use strong flame or weak flame, depending on if she wants to fly, attack etc.
She jumped from the side cliff, scrabbiling into the hull of the abandoned ship yard. ((navy ships)) she wriggled through her hole that led to her room. No one else knew about her hidey hole except her two best friends, they only came here if they needed a cheer up or were just hanging out, eitherway it was her sanctuary. Picking up her pillow she lifted up and old piece of metal and pushed it to the side, revealing the weapons they stored there for emergencies
Name: Keala Bak'r
Age: 14
Designation: Frontiersman
City: Townsend 2
Personal Info:  His senses are extremely hightened, even for a wolf, and his speed when he runs nearly matches a cheetah.  Nearly.  He's a very...strange wolf, he loves history and science, and most people don't like both at the same time.  Usually those who like History, hate science.  But you ask him something to do with either one that is pertinent to his knowledge, he'll go on babbling about it for hours on end.
-------------------------
Keala was currently running as fast as he could back to the town.  He had managed to find two bunnies, both with barely any meat, but at least it was something to eat.  The sun was going down now, and the mourners would show themselves soon enough, and the thought of his older sister, whom was 23 when the disease his sped him up a little.  He had to get back on time.
Some of the kits yelped and Sahar peeked out, noticing it was just a small winged fox. Beckoning her closer, Sahar held the children close, cooing softly to calm them.
Name: Koro Blackclaww
Age: (Cannot go above 19) 16
Designation: Soldier
City: Townsend 2
Personal Info: Was raised on the naval base, but got early training as soldier, and if the virus didn't strike before he reached 15, he would have been a      Green-Beret at the age of 18. Although he stands out from most of the children due to his 6' 2'' stature, he tries to be as gentle as possible when around others.
=====================
Reflecting on what happened a year ago, He was only 15, and he had to kill all the people who trained him, and his parents as they attacked him in while he barricaded himself in the armory. Then when day-break occoured, he ran to the naval area to find a boat, to find most of them were destroyed and the rest of them already gone. Soon after searching the place, he found Sahar and he has done his best to make sure she lives through this.
Right now...He just finished patroling the nearby city for food, managing to get a packful, and started trekking back to the naval base..
Name:  Kayle Storm
Age:  14
Designation:  Lightman
City:  Ghost Town BU
Personal Info:  Kayle is a gruff and blunt individual.  He was an orphan even before the virus hit, and lived on the streets for years.  He bears the scars of numerous street fights, as well as from a few encounters with the Mourners.  He became a lightman because he hates seeing the same scenery for too lone, and the danger of the job attracts his sense of adventure.
Kayle stood at the corner of the station building, watching the sun slowly falling.  As it reached the horizon, the wolf turned and slid into the driver's seat of his beat up Chevy.  The wolf flipped on the lights and lanterns on the truck, then checked the load on his shotgun in the seat beside him.  He prefered knives or a tire iron, but the Mourners never let you get close enough for that.  Kayle made sure his load of supplies was secured, then gunned the engine and pulled away from the town, headed for Townsend 2 with a load of medicine.
Hearing footsteps, she shushed the kits and looked around, eyes luminous with light from the moon. Tail flicking slyly, Sahar padded to the edge of the hallowed out ship and looked about, sniffing the night air nervously. Her fur stood on end and she felt as though someone else was coming to see her. Growling in frustration and turning back, she climbed to the hull and looked out into the night, eyes shining with excitement and taunt energy, tension.
As he got closer to the hollowed out ship, he noticed some movement at the top, then when he got closer, he noticed it was Sara and he started to wave, raising the supplies in his left arm to show he came back with food...
Kayle shifted the truck into drive and gunned it down the abandoned road.  The wolf didn't even bother to watch the speedometer.  He knew this road like the back of his paw, and the sooner he got to Townsend 2, the better.  The wolf careened around a corner going almost a hundred.  The vehicle tilted a little, then righted.  Suddenly, up ahead, Kayle saw something in the road.  It was a car, laid across both lanes of the highway.  The wolf tried to hit the brakes, but lost control.  The pickup rolled, spilling supplies all around.  When the vehicle stopped, Kayle crawled out.  He was bruised and shaken, and his wrist felt broken.  Who the hell had left that car there?!?  The truck's headlights were still on, so Kayle sat in front of the truck with the shotgun across his knees.  With any luck, someone would find him.  He would stay until they did.  Someone had to watch what cargo was left.
Sahar waved back, smiling as she climbed back down and rushed to meet him. Swinging into his arms, she giggled and kissed his cheek. "Welcome back, Koro."
Kayle gathered up what medicine that was in the circle of light cast by the truck's headlights.  If he lived through the night, he would head out toward Townsend 2 with what supplies he had left.  Living through the night came first, though.  The wolf made a makeshift splint for his wrist, then opened one of the bottles of aspirin and dry-swallowed a couple.  He settled down to wait, shotgun across his knees.  Please, please, let nothing happen...
Swallowing her moment of immaturity, the young wolf walked in front of him stiffly, leading him to the children. As she led the soldier, she mentally berated herself for acting as she had. They reached the hold easily enough. Her tail flicked in private annoyance. Frustrated and confused by her reaction to a friend, Sahar left the kits in Koro's care and sat atop the ship's hull, brooding silently.
I took some of the food out of the bag, and gave it to the kits, putting the rest up for later...then wondering where Sahar went...I noticed that she changed her demeanor almost instantly....shes probably brooding about her attitude...better go talk to her... I thought as I went up to the ships hull, and saw her brooding, just as expected. "We're not elders, we don't have to be uptight....just relax...its nowhere near nighttime and the place is already setup for barricading..." I said, giving her a friendly nudge...
