Hello I'm Comet
I know this topic has been done about a million times but I just need some advice. I'm afraid that I'm going to lose interest in the Furry Fandom because No one in real life knows I'm a furry. Everytime I try to talk to someone about it like friends or my parents I get nervous about how they will react and think that I'm some kind of freak. I guess I'm just scared that I might lose my friends or lose my relationship with my parents. It's just that urge that wants you to let people know the real you. I have two friend that are into Japanese anime and that's basically the two I'm trying to tell because they have the Idea on what it is. The reason I feel that I might loose interest in the Fandom is that I'm scared that I'll start to think its weird "myself" being is that I'm nervous to talk to my friends and family about it. I don't have any regrets about liking Anthromorphic animals and wanting to be one, its just something in the back of my mine that is afraid of losing interest in it.
Please if anyone could give me some advice on how to tell my Friends and Parents about the Fandom and how not to lose interest in it Please respond. I'm desperate =s

Well, I showed my parents some of my artwork(even though it was terrible) And I told them what it was about and there were more people like me, but I first told my friend about me being a furry and they accepted me.
Remember, you're parents love you and nothing will change that.

Well, family, I'm not tellin' untill I'm on my own because they're WAY religious and kick me out because they got the wtong idea. BUT! For friends, its way easier. Just tell em straight up "Hey, I'm a furry" or start a conversation about animals and tell em that way. If they don't wanna be you friend JUST because your a furry, they can take a hike, because real friends should accept or even embrace your beliefs and lifestyle choices. Like an "agree to dissagree" kinda thing... Could this be merged with Kida_Howlette's topic...?

I agree with the family stuff, wait until your on your own, but the friends part.. well, it may be easier but it can also be tricky.
Imagine:
Me: Hey, I'm a furry
BFF: O.o.. you're a what?
That's what will happen to me, my BFF doesn't have the slightest clue about the furry fandom/community, and I'm afraid I'll start explaining in the wrong end.. I share the same problem as Comet.. :th_PyongLlora:

tell ure best friends and or your close brother. they'll understand, like wolfgang told me and my bro he was a furry, and that got me to be a furry. (my bro isn't ca's he's a jerk and a manipulator who always thinks he knows everything) but the point is that if ure really goof friends they will understand, i mean i've known wolfgang ,y entire life. i have pictures of him at my first bday party and before that.

You just have to make sure they understand how important being a furry is to you, but that it's not such a big thing that it should change your relationship with anyone. You're still the same person you always were.
Or, you can just start a conversation about furries in general, and then once you've ironed out the details and you know what your friends do or don't understand about furs, THEN you say you are one.

Yea, I couldn't exactly explain what a furry is (Because every person has a diffrent conotation of what it means to be one) so I showed them this forum. I try to show them the family-friendly stuff first, but then tell the about the other stuff when they're comfortable with the first part.
Me: This, is a furry forum... I come here most everyday.
Friends: 0_0... COOL! :)

Hope it turns out well.

Don't be afraid to tell them, if they think any different of you then there not true friends...your friends shouldn't thnk any differnt of you nomatter what you do or like...plus your parents should be the most understanding of all...
-
eh, no one know i'm a fur, except my bestest bestest friend, and he really doesn't mind
-
i let my friends think they found out on thier own and it seemed to work pretty good... i would leave FF up on the computer and stuff like that. then when they ask about it you get a chance to fully explain it... as far as family goes idk, my mum would disown me if i told her
-
i still haven't told ANYONE except for my 3 very close friends
-
However they receive it, there are others like you struggling and will help as best they can. If you proceed with a proud air and feel it's right to be who you are, you'll earn their respect and you won't get as hard a reaction as otherwise. Good luck though, Comet. I hope they accept you regardless.

I disagree with that last part.
So far, I've told everyone in my family and friends but my sister, father and mother.
My mom flipped out when she found out I was bi and now she won't even speak to me. :'(
Her loss, I guess.
But anyways.
I just came out and told my brother and my friends.
My brother laughed in my face (bad times, i punched him)
And all of my friends thought it was cute. :P
But I guess it's just different for everyone who tells people.
