Title: The Draft (OOC Thread)
Post by: Nikolai on November 18, 2008, 05:57:14 AM
Alright, I've decided to finally push my writing ability into starting an RP.

The premise:

1. History
- It's roughly 100-200 years in the future from our own time, and the furry race has actually sprung up over time through genetic alterations or whatever the heck the scientists did to humans. As they spread, by now they're their own complete society and race, and are *attempting* to coexist with the humans. Humans, as with most fur plots, aren't as nice.

However, about 2 years prior to this RP, for the first time ever Humanity declared war on another race. A draft was ensued on both sides, and furs and humans alike were pulled from their homes to fight in the war.

Nukes have been long banned and destroyed (Thank goodness) but more powerful weapons of front-line combat have been invented. The battle is heavily one-sided with the Humans well outnumbering the furs, as well as having more resources.

- The RP

The outcome of the war and the changes in power are irrelevant, as this RP will take place on the front lines of war, rather than behind a desk. Which means a good portion of characters in this RP will have been taken out of their homes (willingly or not) to fight against the Humans.

Which means, YES, Human characters are totally allowed. Though it's not likely a POW human will be treated very well, and a defect would most likely be turned away. Keep that in mind if you want to RP a human on the furry side. But Humans against Furries is allowed, and I plan to RP with a few characters.

Because the draft is indiscriminate, any furry that is capable of battle, can battle. Which means even if your fursona (As I am doing) or character doesn't approve the war, they won't have a choice. I hope to get some conflicting personalities or ideas about the war and characters that will lead to some nice character development.

It starts out in what used to be New Mexico, where a small group of furries are pinned down in the desert. A rescue team is sent after them to extract them, which (if you don't want to intertwine your history with other characters) gives you a chance to RP first encounters.

- Technology

Conventional weapons are replaced with computer-guided explosives, and Laser weapons. The lasers are very precise and explosive, and often require charging, but are horribly efficient. Battle armor is eaten through like butter, so even heavily armored furs are vulnerable, which has the war preference the lighter, faster, smarter fur that can strike and escape before attacked. (Also, think beam, not plasma) Which leads to a very dangerous battle zone. Though the heavier fur is greatly appreciated in battle as well.

Vehicles haven't improved much, but basically any semi-advanced aircraft or hovercraft is acceptable.

Any other technology that's mildly advanced or based off this world's time's is fine.

- Characters

Post your characters here first, when I see a sufficient response, I'll go ahead and make the topic.

Code: [Select]
Name: (Duh)
Draft Number: (A 6-digit number to identify your soldier)
Species: (Duher)
Gender: (Duhest)
Appearance: (Both color and clothing. Army wear varies depending on environment, but usually is a light green.)
Prefered style of direct combat:
Role In Squad: (Medic? Gunman? Tactician? A one-word job description for what your Fur is best at. Try to keep it varied so we don't have a group full of grenadiers or something like that.)
Personality: (What the character is like, explain their position on the war and humans, as well as other furries)
History: (Describe your character's background, their relations, how they ended up where they are, if they were just drafted or have been fighting the whole 2 years, etc.)

NOTE: AGE IS IRRELEVANT. Some furs were meant to live longer than others, and some develop faster. A 6-year old fur could be as developed as a 21-year old human, or 34-year-old fur.

Here would be mine, for example (and usage!)

Name: Nikolai King
Draft Number: 668643
Species: Squirrel
Gender: Male
Appearance: Bright red, with white on his face and belly. Bright blue eyes and a mild expression. Has been forced to give up his signature black coat in favor of a kevlar jacket.
Prefered style of direct combat: Away from the main action, but close enough to hurt and heal.
Role In Squad: Medic
Personality: He's usually somewhat reserved, but always the first one to help someone if they need it. He'll listen quietly, and put in words of wisdom when he can, and does what he can to help those around him. However, he can also be very cruel if he becomes disturbed or bothered by something, though he's learned to control himself. He hates to see pain, but knows what he has to do. His position of the war is against, but knows it's a necessary evil if the furs are to gain independence from their human 'creator's.

History: He left a love one back home when he was drafted, and has served for a year since, with no word of her. It is suspected that she was sent into the draft as well, but he hasn't heard anything concrete. Before the war he planned to teach philosophy and debate at a local furry school, but was called away before he could land the job, having to give up his goals for the war. He doesn't like it, but he's doing it proudly, and it shows. He has a basic medical training, and when drafted was forced to expand upon it to fit him in the position chosen for him, as a medic. He's helped on a few specialized squads, and recently became the last survivor of his original squad he was assigned to.

Name: Shane Kurasaki
Draft Number:
000047
Species: Red Fox
Gender:  Male
Appearance: Red hair, orange fur.  Usually wears very light-weight, blue clothing.  Does NOT wear amour.  Blue tanktop and white army pants for storing equipment.  Black messenger's bag.
Prefered style of direct combat: Espionage.  Frontal Assault.
Role In Squad: Tactician, Gunman
Personality: Fun-loving and laid back.  Cocky.  Shane thinks the war is ridiculous, and that the humans are making a large mistake.  Generally nice to oher furs, only if they act the same way towards him.
History: Shane has been fighting the entire two years, which explains why he has such a small number (000047).  He knows every fur that had been drafted when he was (all furs that are NPCs).

Oh, forgot to mention, multiple characters are allowed. Just keep it original and in reason.

EDIT: Er, had some copy/pasting problems in the last post. Edited out.

Name: Gizor Delso

Draft number: 000037

species: chameleon

appearance: tallish and lanky, wears camo colured cargo pants, an ammo belt over the shoulder, has a fang necklace, also has ceremonial shoulder armor and tool belt for tools and such.

preferred style of direct combat: usually sticks to espionage and sniping due to natural skill, but won't hesitate to go frontline

role in squad- usually sniper but also all around fighter

personality: loves a good fight, usually calm and collected while sniping, and wild and unpredictable while in a firefight. he can have trouble getting along with furs that disapprove of the war since he strongly supports it.

history: gizor has been fighting since he first heard there would be war, when the draft officers came to his door he was fully dressed in his battle gear and went with the officers without hesitation. he quickly gained a reputation among the recruits as someone you shouldn't piss off, but among the pro war recruits he was known as the guy you always wanted in your squad
Title: Re: The Draft

One more to make a squad of four, then we can RP this thing proper. I'd prefer if we had a heavy munitions man or grenadier. Something along those lines. (Of course, with this technology, that could mean a super-explosive laser or some kind of very heavy firepower to take down big things)

For now, I've got a human profile up for some opposition. This guy isn't part of our squad, by the way. He's going to be our primary enemy.

Name: Scott Willliams
Draft Number: -
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Appearance: Quite gruff, but under human standards, he's very handsome. He's extremely muscular, and wears heavy armor and camouflage gear, which he sports as easily as most normal soldiers do their standard gear.
Prefered style of direct combat: Heavy explosives, and usually stays far away from the enemy, letting far support or launched explosives (RPGs, C4 traps, Car bombs etc.)
Role In Squad: Squad Leader, Tactician, and Grenadier.
Personality: He's incredibly Anti-furry. Not because his parents were killed by furries or anything like that, he just hates them with a passion. The government calls them enemies, rebels, and failed experiments gone wrong, so he'd created this passion of hate inside him so he can make sure he carries out what the government wants. And he does it well, by coinciding his own personal preferences with the government's decisions, he becomes a loyal soldier with a mastery of the art of genocide on the front lines. In battle, he's known to leave no survivors, and make just about anything that can blow up, blow up. He forces himself to feel this anger and power against his enemies for his own benefit, and the benefit of the world, in his opinion. In the end, he has no thoughts of his own, just what makes him believe what the world has told him.
History: Son of a general, he's incredibly loyal to the human race's position on the war, reguardless of his own thought. He was raised under the american flag, and his father died under it. He was long ago offered a position of power behind a desk, but refused it to continue his service in the front lines. Shortly afterward, war was declared. He proudly fought the furries, which to both him and his father were considerably less than human and their destruction was necessary from their creation.

By the way, for the purpose of this RPG, 'Fur' is the proper term, 'Furry' is a curse word against furs.

Here's the guy who'll be giving the squad their orders:

Name: General Slovac Whitney
Draft Number: - (Part of the fur army before the draft)
Species: Wolf
Gender: Male
Appearance: Bleu and white, with a heavy scar on his right eye, making him blind in that eye. Otherwise, he looks quite old and 'run through the mill' so to say. Usually one doesn't see below his shoulders, as he's shown rarely in public. When he is in public, he's wearing his full Fur Army uniform, with dazzling medals of honor and the like.
Prefered style of direct combat: None, anymore. He used to be a gunman, but now he just commands squads from behind a desk.
Role In Squad: -
Personality: He's a typical general. He gets stressed, angered, and frustrated at the events that happen, but always knows how to get out of them. He's a good planner and tactician, but he's limited by a lot of restrictions that makes running countless of squads around the globe hard. But, he takes it well. Old and experienced, it's his job to tell the soldiers what the job is, and it's the soldier's job to make sure it's done.
History: Very little is known about him before the war, but speculation leads one to believe he worked for a Human secret service group before coming back to the Fur's side. People believe this because of his vast knowledge of human thinking, tactics, and weapons. His knowledge is invaluable to the fur's cause.

Post by: ST-84 Sahelanthropus on November 19, 2008, 05:55:14 AM
Name: Frank Keegan
Draft Number: None, as of now he is alone
Species: Human
Gender: Male
Appearance: {[ From http://www.tektek.org/dream/ ]} http://public2.tektek.org/img/av/0811/d19/1317/da1e61.png
Prefered style of direct combat: Run and Gun,
Role In Squad: None yet,
Personality: Hates Furs.
History: He was pulled into the war, two years ago, not knowing what to do or who to side with he went rougue to fight on his own. Now he continues fighting when he must. On the down-side, he has made no allies, but on the up-side no enemies are after him. He is currently trying to find the Human HQ, so he can join them against the Furs.
Title: Re: The Draft

Hm... that seems good enough for me.

I'll go ahead and start the RP tomorrow, and include the following character as a side-character until someone else joins with the squad, then find a way to kill her off, or just keep her until her position is filled by someone else. I'll figure something out for her to do.

Name: Miercole Shure
Draft Number: 997865
Species: Domestic Cat
Gender: Female
Appearance: Bright white fur, and a rather small face and stature. Cute. Wears thin camouflage with little or no armor to allow better movement.
Prefered style of direct combat: Find Position. Snipe. Repeat.
Role In Squad: Sniper, long recon
Personality: She's very quiet, and absolutely hates seeing death up-close. Generally quiet, she tries to avoid the other members of the squad for various reasons, and relates to no one.
History: She was chosen for her position because she was too squeamish as a medic, not aggressive or strong enough for a Grenadier or a Gunman, and not smart enough for a tactician. In short, this is the only type of combat she can stand and do a half-way decent job at. Recently drafted, this is her second assignment, as she became pinned down in the Nevada Desert during a recon mission, waiting for the squad to pull her out, where she'll meet the group for the first time.
Title: Re: The Draft
Post by: Uncertainty on November 19, 2008, 07:08:30 AM
Name: Jayden Zervos
Draft Number: 608879
Species: Hyena
Gender: Male
Appearance: Golden colored fur with black spots, and green eyes. Exceedingly thin, to the point where his ribs are visible against his flesh. Generally wears a light-green sleeveless muscle shirt, which makes his lack of muscle blatantly obvious, camouflage pants, and a light green surgeons mask, which he wears at all times, except in sleep, as a joke towards the stereotypes of doctors in the military.
Prefered style of direct combat: Avoids combat at best he can, but if combat is required to access a soldier to heal them, then he prefers hand-to-hand combat.
Role In Squad: Medic.
Personality: Generally erratic. He doesn't keep his mind set on one opinion for long, except for two which he as accepted as universal truths: The rich are all scum who became rich by hurting others, and that the war was almost completely run by the rich, with the poor on the front lines. Once he's made a decision, it can be expected that he will change his mind. He is completely unpredictable, and will act virtuous and heroic, and the next moment, he will act viciously and cowardly. Rarely does he ever defend his past decisions, and is quickly convinced by a good argument, unless it's in defense of the rich.
History: His father abandoned his mother before his birth, and his mother died in labor. He had no other living relatives, and became an orphan. He quickly left the orphanage as soon as he could. Long before the war, he was a poet, with an impressive following, but he felt that didn't suit him. He tried a little bit of all different jobs, from accounting to electrician. He spent a few years trying a little bit of all types of jobs, but none of them were nearly as fulfilling as being a poet was. Before going back to being a poet, he decided he was going to try his hand in health. He enrolled in a prestigious Fur-Only university. Even though he began writing again to put him through school, he felt that healing suited him much better than writing. His education was almost complete when the war began, however, the university board decided to suspend all classes for duration of the war for the protection of the students. Determined to finish his education, he banded together with a small group of students to finish their classes privately with the professors. Each of the professors for this group of students petitioned the board for the students' diplomas. He was granted his diploma, and he tried become his own practice, but patients never found him. He was one of the first to be drafted. Despite his disposition against the war at the time, he didn't object in any way. Although, being gay, he was interested in a couple of furs, but no one ever could live with his indecisiveness, and thus has never had a mate.

Don't worry. Your actions will move the plot, that's the idea. I have a vague idea of where I want this to go, and there will be events out of your control, but for the most part, what we do as a group depends on our cumulative decisions.

I'll take the position of Squad leader for now, but if you want in, be in. Maybe you're a POW in the humans camp, maybe you're wandering the rocky desert. Up to you.

ya know i didn't really think about it till now, i'm just basicaly a program who got taken by the army and got a new body (like the book storm thief with vargo) so essentially i'm like a droid, but i have intelegents that is better then a regular human, i have a mind like a human, but a body like a bot, i have the capasity to fix myself, so i guess i'm a mecha, i think a human in a suit is just a human i think

I'd actually prefer it if it was still humans VS furs here, or if something like the mech was available, it wasn't as powerful. It makes the conflicts a bit one-sided.

"They got behind some rocks" "Frank took cover behind a rock" "Gizor dove behind a rock" "The rock blew up into a million little rocks" "A beam went through a rock" "Frank was behind a rock, "Stupid rocks!!" Frank yelled from behind the rock, witch was covered in rocks and surounded by rocks and there was a rock far away from the rock Frank was behind, he then shot through a rock from behind his rock."

Now when I say the word "rock" it sounds wierd.

you my friend, are a genious, the 'rock' rant you just made was very humorous, I laughed a little, but stopped because everyone in my house is asleep and I doubt they would be pleased if I woke them up, I especially like the 'rock covered in rocks' part. Very nice :)

also to the word sounding weird part, I also get that sometimes when I think about language, for instance, why is a wall called a wall in our current language structure? It could have been called anything else but someone settled on that particular arranfement of letters and sounds. when said oerson came across the first wall, was the first thing that popped into their head 'wall'? who knows
