Title: Whoes You're Music "Hero"?
Post by: DarkBall on October 28, 2008, 12:18:42 AM
Who do you consider your Hero? Doesn't have to be your favorite Artist either, someone who you really respect and love for their talent and how they use it. Someone you relate to, also. And put the reason you respect them.

Kanye West. I consider him a hero for getting up after his mothers death and singing for her, with the greatest honor and touch of music. And after a car accident, didn't stop him from singing. I would call that extremely talented. he relates to me cause, he doesn't come off like he has to act around people, if you see him in person, you can tell, hes just a real guy. =)

Whose your hero?  :)

my heros might just be the clash, they rock, if u heard rock the chasba, u'd see that they hear world affairs and understand that, like about the shah in iran, and the ayatolla, and the us... well thats just my opinion, i hate it when ppl make assumptions and they don't understand what the issues and such really is... but any way i really respect the clash, they understand world issues and they talk about it through there music, i guess, idk

For me,
Its Emilie Autumn and Tool.

Emilie Autumn is an amazing, beautiful, and extremely talented female artist. Her style is just utterly unique and different and her voice is just out-there. Her music really gets to me and she proves that you can be a really great female artist and not "Solicit" yourself out.

Tool because they are just my inspiration for most of my artwork thats abstract. They also just have an utterly unique style in music that just stands out and attracts me. Also, their musical a musical prodigy with their guitar skills and lyrics.

Definitely Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin and also John Bohnam.

John makes me want to play drums all the time and Jimmy Page is just an inspiration to play guitar. I am not that good though xD

The Fray
Their music speaks to me in a theraputic way.. It's hard to explain.

Linkin Park
Linkin Park adressess real issues with their music, like poverty and scorn.

Short, to the point descriptions...  =D

Marilyn Manson.
He's deeply symbolic with his music. He's not afraid to tackle controversial issues. It's deeply artistic, and often makes valid comparisons. He's not afraid to change his sound with each new album.

Sarah McLachlan.
Because of her emotionally provoking music, and the fact that she supports the ASPCA.

Narrowing it down to one single artist?  Tricky to do.

But if I were to idolize one single musician, or composer, I'm going to have to say Nobuo Uematsu.  He's able to capture a wide variety of emotions, feelings, and thoughts, in different styles of music, I have nothing but admiration and respect for his talents.  Oh, and jealousy.  Enough jealousy to feed a small nation, actually.

He is best known for his contributions to the musical scores of the Final Fantasy series, but his non-FF works are no less brilliant.

Plus the Black Mages are fantastic.

My musical hero is Buckethead.

I love the whole persona of this mysterious, insane, chicken loving madmen he has created. In that aspect he has really taking creative to the limit in the music business.

But his music is just something else. He is ridiculously good at the guitar and he doesn't just try to show it off with really fast guitar licks. His music is so unorthodox, and creative, and just plain unbelievable. I could (and have) listen to him all day.

Well the first one I thought of was Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz, The Good The Bad and The Queen) because he's always pushing into different ideas, different areas, always experimenting, always innovating, exposing the mainstream to stuff they would never normally listen to. For example, the next Gorillaz album is being made in Syria because it's using arab music. I mean, who goes from britpop, to rock, to hip-hop, to grunge, to blues, to jazz, to afrobeat and then arab music? Often mixing genres throughout.

But then Phantom brought talked about the Clash, who were amazing but particularly Joe Strummer. I mean he was really something special, and was the mind behind all their songs, and all the world issues they tackled and the genres they drew upon. Plus in his later life, he understood what the music was and what punk rock was, and through that, what hippies were about and ravers too. All these cultures that are so tightly wound together, with so much in common, and pushed so far apart.

Oh yeah and I'm hard pressed to find someone who doesnt like any of michael jackson's songs.

I would definitely say Tegan from the band "Tegan & Sara".
Well, Sara too actually!

Both of them are twin sisters, who write amazing Indie Rock music. Also, they are both lesbians. I can easily relate.
And their lyrics mean alot to me. Overall, they're my music heroes. ♥

TOOL would have to be the band I most respect. I believe TOOL managed to hold to artistic integrity throughout their career to date. Also there is a great spirituality to some of the works    which touches me in a real way.

definitely  B) Papa Gates B).  He's not only funny but he's considered the best guitarist alive.  I agree since he is going into the rock & roll hall of fame having never played in a single band.  If I ever get as good as him, I would do what he does, and go around doing stand up while playing music in the background.

My next favorite would have to be the entire band of Devildriver because they're all actually nice and funny, they're not total jerks.  I respect it in a band when they are nice and respect their audience and give them a good show.

Angus Young from AC/DC. I was really into AC/DC when I played guitar a lot more then I do now. He started out with nothing and with almost no help at all (kinda like me) and became a God. I saw them live in Toronto (great show btw) and after leaving, I was walking past a bar when I accidentally ran into him.

I shook his hand. (OMG)

Jared Leto. Awesome music, actor, and he's just generally inspiring. Everything he says is with charisma. It's really brutal awesome.

He's from 30 Seconds To Mars, and his conceptual albums speak alot about emotional issues people face, so the music he helps create is helpful to those with a shrouded future and a tattered past. Also his hair is really cool in the "From Yesterday" Music vid. =P
