I'm into music. Very much so. I'll drop a few a band names from different genres I like.
Anybody else here a fan of Dream Theater?
One of the most musically talented rock/metal bands I've ever heard.
Within Temptation is a neat group, too (I think they call themselves a dutch gothic rock band).
The band my friends give me strange looks for is Värttinä (Finnish folk music band, great Skaldic lyrics).
I'm a fan of Jeremy Soule's orchestral work (probably best known for a bunch of video game soundtracks).
Xavier Rudd is a fantastic hippie, Australian-Aboriginal influenced one-man-band.
I recently recommended The Weakerthans to someone (great indy band).
I grew up on pop and rock of the times, from ACDC to Collective Soul to Metallica to Treble Charger.
And early Treble Charger was -really- good. Then they changed -- in my opinion, for the worse. Like Our Lady Peace.
^ I quite liked the gorillaz stuff, too, but never got into the Beach Boys. I can deal with the Beatles, but I'm not a huge fan of either. Which, sadly, is a cardinal sin for musicy-music people. So I feel like a terrible person for it, but that doesn't make me like either one of them.

Just about everything except hip-hop, Country or Rap.
My preferences are dominated by rock however. British Classic Rock, like The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles (some of their songs) Etc. As well as american bands such as Aerosmith, Joan Jett, and others. Jimi Hendrix, Bon Jovi, a lot of classic Rock.
I like the older stuff (for me, anyway. XD) too, such as Elvis and Johnny Cash and even some jazz. (Miles Davis)
Some Metal Bands (Usually Christian Metal, since I find the rest a bit... dark. Though good music all the same) like August Burns Red, Demon Hunter, and As I lay Dying are at the top of my list for the heavy stuff.
When it comes to modern Rock, I don't have a whole lot of favorites, but Chris Cornell, Disciple, and a few others come to mind.

Rap is on the middle ground in my eyes, most music is.
My sense of music is rather "Old Fashioned" by most standards.
I do like some Metal and Rap, but most of what I listen to is of the Classical genre.

Alternative has to be my favorite. I love the guitar and drums in rock music like that. Heavy Metal is pretty good, too. A couple of friends are turning me onto Electronica, so that's warming up to me, too.

Oh, and to add to the board, I like Electronica too. Not the peppy kind, but the deep rave kind. I write some Electronica, but I'm working to get a hard grasp on my potential for my interest. Justice and Daft Punk are my fav. Electric groups.

They are awesome! The guitarist had been playing since he was like... younger. Haha, basically for a really long time. Then our Rhythm guitarist had only been playing for a few less years. Also, he wasn't into metal, he was more for the classics like Jimi and SRV. (I'm the drummer, by the way.)

I have no idea about my band. I don't know anything about my bandmates. I was put there by the screamer (Jeff) and I briefly met the others. We never talk, we're not friends or anything, just a band XD. I'm the bassist. Nice to meet ya. lol

Yeah, in our band (The one I'm in now) we all play a part for screaming. The clean vocalist can do any range, the bassist does the high screams and then me and the lead guitar do low. Hehe, talk about a wolf howl. =P
P.S. For anyone into violin, check out "Mercedes Lullaby," it's from the movie Pan's Labyrinth, it's really soothing and sad.

Specifically, my favourite style of music is Melodic Power Metal (think Nocturnal Rites, Masterplan, Nightwish, little bit of Brainstorm)
But on a broader scale, I'll bring it up to Power Metal (Sabaton, Sonata Arctica, Dream Evil, etc.)
I also have a soft place in my heart for Melodic Death Metal (All That Remains, DevilDriver, In Flames)
