I'm really looking forward to this game. it looks to be a ton of fun. Basically for those of you not familiar with it, The game has you taking a creature from a single cell organism to a space faring species. There are 5 stages to the game as follows
Cell - Your a single celled organism and you float around eating other things in order to get DNA points to upgrade and become a bigger and tougher microscopic organism
Creature - Your a lone creature in the world, you fight to survive by finding food, fending off predators and finding a mate. You need to get DNA points to make you a better creature
Tribal - Your a tribe of creatures, instead of controlling a single creature like in the previous 2 stages you now try to guide a tribe of your creatures to flourish.
Civilization - Your now running a civilization of your creatures. You try to advance their technology while using diplomacy or war to mingle with over civs on your planet. This plays a lot like a mix between a RTS and Civilization
Space - Your species has reached the top and now you can go into space and explore other worlds created by other players around the world, make friends or destroy them.
Obviously my description is pretty vague but really it is a pretty awesome looking game. The released a Creature Creator for the creature strage for everybody to mess around with and its a blast. Here are a few creatures I made.

Has anybody else been following this game? looks great I have the collector's edition for pre order for my PC
-
Saw a little bit of it, partially intrigued, but not enough to get into it fully.
-
Same, I saw bits and pieces of the game but not enough to get in to it. Perhaps if a friend got it and I played maybe.
-
Me and my co-worker are planning on getting it...is it coming to the 360? or just the PC?
I've heard about this game for over a year...i've been waiting for it to come out..and I watched that video...I figured the game would've had a much more "darker" feel to it.. but looks great..
-
No plans for any release other then the PC. Though the DS has a creature creator as well.
The game never was going to have a dark feel too it. Just a light hearted fun feel. But either way Im really looking forward to it
-
The game looks amazing, and I am really looking forward to it. I strongly recommend this to those who liked the Sims or Simcity.
-
I played around with the Creature Creator demo a bit, and it seemed fun. Not entirely sure yet though; it feels like it could potentially get boring really fast.
-
Well the creator isnt the actual game, just like the sims you create your own characters, but the actual game you do stuff with them. But like sims you either will be horribly horribly addicted to it or you wont like it. I like to make creatures but the actual gameplay has yet to be experianced by me so only time will tell how good the actual game is
-
I know the creator isn't the full game, I just think the actual game could potentially get boring, from what I've seen of it. *shrugs* You probably are right though, about it being similar to Sims that way.
-
I may have a look at it when things become more allowable on my end.
-
(I know this is an old topic but I think it deserves to be resurrected now that the game is actually released.)
I bought the game a few days ago. ^^ I've been having a lot of fun with it. Anyone else get it yet?
-
ZOMG
I've heard of that game!
I want it so badly D:
How much does it cost?
-
It's $50 (and totally worth it).
I've been playing it for like 5 days non-stop, lol. :squish:
-
yeah I got it too, the galactic edition. Its a blast to play and create stuff then watch it be used in the game.
My two favorite stages thus far are creature and Galactic. In galactic its amazing how many planets there are out there to visit its truly amazing
-
I know. It's almost mind blowing. o.o
Creature is probably my favourite stage of them all, though it can get tedious, having to collect everything over and over again. I kind of wish you could just unlock everything once and not have to worry about it again, but I guess that would make the stage too easy, lol.
-
In creature stage I always liked the interactions between you and your fellow nest mates, like when one of them takings a liking to you. I find it humorously cute how they run up[ to you and shake their tails and waves and everything trying to get your attention. Its cute.
I also like running around in a pack and the little things like when you eat, others in your pack will eat too. Or if your a friendly creature how you can dance and sing in pairs and it becomes the creature version of the greasers and Preps dance off.
I also like the timeline you can view, it really feels like your going through evolution in the game. Overall I really love it, its a blast to play and despite a few glaring bugs I had to deal with off the get go (thanks vista) it runs beautifully on my machine
-
ROFL @ the greasers XD
Yeah, it really is a great game. I almost wasn't able to run it on my computer, I had to clear out a few GB so I could install it. ^^'
Anyway, here's a snapshot (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v629/magicalcow17/sporedragon.jpg) of one my little creatures, a dragon sort of thing. Do you have any pictures or videos of anything you've made?
-
Yeah let me find one. Plus you can find my creatures on spore by searching metasaur as well as all the vehicles and the like.
Here ya go LINK (http://i371.photobucket.com/albums/oo159/Dispsosaurus/Spore_2008-09-10_04-09-48.png)
I need to get some of them in the creature stage. I was having so much fun I forgot to take pictures. BTW I think there is a way to add friends so you can check out their creatons, we should add each other
-
I tried finding you in the sporepedia but nothing came up. I'm WingedZephyr on there too, see if you can find me and I'd be happy to add you. ^^
-
Hmm apparently my Spore screen name is Tezztor so just add buddy. I was able to find you and add you to mine
-
looks fun to play
-
Finally went back and added you, Tezztor. ^^
(Posted later)
Is there a way to get your colonies to defend themselves from space attacks? I'm really getting tired of flying my spaceship halfway across the galaxy (literally) to defend them, only to have the Grox kill off my poor little colony anyway since it's me against the 15 or so of them. Not to mention when I get attacked in more than one planet at once. :th_PyongLlora:
-
To be honest Ive wondered the same thing, It gets old constantly flying back and forth rescuing this planet from this or that. I just want to freakin explore! If I find an answer i'll let you know
I met some of your creatures with my new creature, befriended them.
-
I don't even know how it's possible to expand your own empire past a handful of planets when they just keep getting destroyed. Which sucks, because I was kind of looking forward to seeing how far I could spread my colonies too.
And yeah, I've been seeing your creatures all over the place now too. ^^ I befriend yours too. Even when I'm playing through the game trying to kill everything I meet, I can't bring myself to kill yours, lol. :P
-
Well if they give ya trouble put them down I say. I was playing through friendly this time so I didnt have to kill yours though they were angry at me fro the get go. luckily I had siren's song and was able to befriend them. I really like to explore in the galatic stage but After a while I got attacked so much that I could barely leave my homeworld, even other things like allies having a inability to deal with their own ecological problems I had no time to do it anymore. I'm sure there is something we are missing.
-
Does the Galactic Edition have anything in it, like tips or something? I only have the regular one, so I don't know.
-
It doesnt have any game extras, just extras like making of, documentaries, posters ect
the game itself is identical to the regular version
-
I see. I didn't know if there was an extra manual or something included or whatever. Oh well.
I've tried looking around the internet, and I've read some reviews and stuff about other people being frustrated with the same thing, but no solutions. I guess it's just a part of the game we have to deal with.
-
That kinda sucks, guess we just have to wheel and deal out ways to victory
-
While looking for solutions to the Space Stage issue, I just found out something about Spore that makes me quite unhappy. Did you know you're only allowed 3 installs of the game total? After 3, the game won't work anymore. I didn't know that when I bought it. That's a pretty slimy thing to do, in my opinion... A lot of times I'll uninstall and reinstall my computer games, because my computer can't fit them all on the hard drive at the same time. Heaven forbid my computer should ever need reformatting.
An article about it: http://blogs.zdnet.com/hardware/?p=2617
-
Thats complete bull and I can say that for a fact. I was having issues with spore due to vista, I reinstalled it like 5 times before it would work correctly ( till I finally learned it wasnt a problem with spore but the EA downloader)
This might be true if you caught the downloadable version but if you have the DvD/cd Version you shouldnt have a problem
-
I sure hope so.
-
I'll be buying this game soon seming I'm finally using my new computer...first game I put on it was Counter Strike: Source XD.
My co-worker plays Spore..and he made these winged wolves type things o.o...
-
Hm, how much does the basic copy cost?
-
The basic is $50, the galactic is $75.
-
Ok, I will have to buy it later, I spent my money on a gas mask and swords > <
-
Everybody who gets it should post their name here so we can buddy up and share creations
-
Definitely sounds like a good idea. ^^
-
I posted a video I made of spore, Its just random gameplay. WingedZephyr you might recognize the epic monster which decided to lay waste to my nest.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yT--9-T-f1M
-
HAHAHA! That's crazy. Sorry about that. :P
-
There was actually 3 of your creatures that were epic monsters, and 1 of mine.
I run into your stuff all the time, barely any of my own its off even though I started the game with a Tezztor theme hoping to see my own stuff
-
I saw a lot of yours when I first added you, but haven't seen any of yours lately. I see my own all the time. Never as epics though. :P
-
I don't know why the game refuses to let my own stuff be in my own playthroughs. I see your stuff like its all that exists in the universe, the Nyao in particular have formed a lifelong grudge with me and usually seek to destroy my creations.
Only time I ever see my stuff is usually the Lavaspider, and its almost always epic
-
Hey there, I wanted to tell you guys that, aside from pirates, there is no way for colonies to completely defend themselves while you aren't there, the best option is to have the least amount of people at a time at war, and to destroy them quickly. I've noticed that both you guys, Winged and Tezztor, share a common name-scheme. Tezztor's is meta, Winged is drake, and mine (user name is psycholian) is psycho.
-
Interesting, thanks for the heads up Blackout. And the name scheme is interesting too
-
I only have the demo creature creator... but even from just that I can tell this is pretty big. Hopefully I can get it and all possible expansions for Christmas.
I can't wait to make space ships!
-
The creature stage and the space stage are definitely the stars of the show, I only think there is one expac and thats the creature parts expac
-
Thanks for the tip. I guess the easiest thing to do then would just to be kill everyone you find. :P
-
As you may know if you've seen my psycholians they're warriors. Quite an easy path. I just destroy all their colonies and use a heat ray to turn their homeworld into a big molten rock or just blow up the planet, depending on my mood.
-
Has anyone tried any of the expansion packs that are now out for Spore?
There's the "Galactic Adventures" thing, and the "Creepy & Cute" parts pack. I've thought about getting one of them, but I'm not sure it's worth it.
Edited to add: the "Galactic Adventures" isn't out yet, but I still meant to ask if anyone tried the new parts pack yet.
-
It's a great game, until you get to the tribal stage, and can't change your critters
-
I have the Cute n creepy parts pack. Its exactly what it says it is, new parts for your creature. No new gameplay elements. However they add in a decent amount of new parts and animations for your creature. However I dont feel its worth 20 bucks but what can ya do
-
lol, actualy, my first speicies was called 'Cryacheen' and they were winged raptors =^.^=

Yeah, that's what I think. Might be nice, but I'm not sure I want to pay the $20.
Are you going to get the Galactic Adventures when it comes out?
-
Probably, it sounds like a lot of fun. Then again... so did spore
-
Hehehe. Touché.
Spore got uninstalled on my computer a month or two ago when I had to do some work on it... Should probably reinstall before I think about the expansion packs anyway.
-
Yeah, one of the comps I used to play it broke, so it can't be uninstalled or reinstalled, and it wont play lol
-
i got the full version last week and have been playing it no-stop after school (cause my internet broke, and i was using the offline thing). its soooooooooooooo awesome, except i couldn't get the patch and it crashes now and then in the creature stage. (i just saved a lot and got past it). and lmao i created the original enterprise as my space ship.
-
Spore was a ton of fun in the beginning, but I do think it's way overpriced, and had the potential to be a lot better.
-
lol i didn't pay for it either AU$80 is way to much so i got it of a friend who got bored of it.
-
Should definitely add each other in the game so we can share creatures.
Look for Tezztor for me
-
ok ill register it today (i was playing it without internet with a patch) and create a logon
