(Just thought I should note: this isn't just about music or just about video games, so I wasn't sure where to start this thread. Another mod is free to move it if they feel it's better placed elsewhere.)
I've been looking to get an mp3 player, but I'm having a bit of trouble deciding whether I want to get one of the video iPods or a PSP. I really like the size and file space I'd get with an iPod, but it would also be nice to have some of the games for PSP, and if I wanted to watch movies, the screen would be a lot better with the PSP too.
I've read reviews and such for them, and I might be leaning toward the PSP, but I'm still not sure, so I'm just interested in seeing what some of you guys think about them.

iPods have great battery power in compared to the PSP... but the iPod's storage cannot be modified, which the PSP can use memory sticks for added storage.

go for psp dang it, unless you need to put on a bagillion songs that you will listen to constantly psp is so much better! :th_Pyong-1:

I personally like my ipod because it is light not bulky and fits in my pocket like that with room to spare, I also use it as a flash drive

Eh..I'd go for the PSP...I like it better then my iPod personally...PSP is way better...Games, internet, music, movies...what more can you ask for? plus a nice widescreen...my iPod has a little tiny 2.5" screen...(it's an 8GB nano Video) the iPod does come in handy though...I've got like 5 movies on it and like 1,000 songs on it...My PSP I love because I can browse the net on it...plus the memory is expandible...
So IMO I'd go for the PSP...

Hmm... Well, I suppose my biggest issues with the PSP is the battery life and the physical size of it. It would be nice to be able to fit an iPod it in my pocket while I'm walking to classes and such, but then I could just put a PSP in my backpack instead and it would work just as well. The PSP's battery only lasts a little under 2 hours from what I've heard and read, but while that might be a little less than desirable, it would probably be tolerable.
Do any of you find the PSP's battery life to be too annoying?
-
I don't really..but I'm gonna buy one of them longer lasting batteries for it though...

the battery life is really good. though if your at home or somewhere with a plug to charge it, CHARGE IT. you can just sit there and play away the forget all about the battery.
I took my PSP apart (cause it stoped working) and used parts from another broken PSP to fix it. So if you do get a PSP and it sops working, breaks, you drop it, ect. DONT give it up. People can fix them.

I have a psp and I can tell ya they are much better than an Ipod for more than just the reasons mentioned.
psp has constant software updates online for FREE, It is a mini computer, and it has the ability to hook to PS3 for gaming and stuff.
as for its downsize, they are actually good things.
I can't tell you how many friends I know sat on their Ipods cause they forgot they put them in their pockets and broke them and the battery last for 8 hours on a full charge, but only takes 35 minutes to charge it from empty.
Ipod size makes it losable and broken easier and the battery last for 14 hours but takes 3 hours to charge from empty which makes it the loser in comparison.
I got one of those 1 gig memory sticks online at Ebay for only $35 which I can hold every song in my computer on my psp now. Thats like 4000 songs.

Yeah, the ability to add flash memory cards (which I swear are getting cheaper by the day) makes the psp great. I've also had issues fighting with iTunes, which an iPod requires, so that's another point (imo) for the psp. My roommate uses her psp as an mp3 player, and it does just fine. I'd just get in the habit of plugging it in when you're not listening to it so the battery's always charged.
Oh, and psps play imported games without any modding :3

Thanks for all the input. :D
I think I'm going to go with the PSP. I feel a bit better about it now.

my iPod I get about 24-26 hours out of the battery...
my PSP...I get around 5 -6 hours...(I've got one of the new slim PSPs)but it's definitely shorter to charge the PSP...plus you can remove the battery and ave multiple batteries of it unlike the iPod

i've got neither, so its hard for me to really comment, but i'd personally go for the PSP i think, this because the PSP is multimedia, games, movies and music in one package, where the Ipod is music only
