:) just a little fun guessing game: which flag is it? This topic might be increeeeadibly easy and mundane or a fun little thing to try your worldly knowledge in.
The rules are simple: no looking up things! (I see that cheeky google tab there <.< XD) I'll try and always reveal within a day or so.
Anyway, first flag... ehm... I hope attachments work for this. If there's a better way with [img] ^^; please do tell my dumb-butt how.
For Firox: horizontal tricolour of yellow, blue and red. The yellow stripe takes up half of the flag and the blue and red take up a quarter each
-
I’m thinking Venezuela but don’t think that’s right <.<
-
Oh you're very close Ves :D they have the same colours
The answer iiiiis *drumroll* Columbia
--------‐----‐‐---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alright ^_^ our next flag is a personal favourite of mine. It consist of a red disk on a dark green banner, the red disk is offset slightly toward the hoist.
-
Thanks to the descriptions, I can get an idea of which one your describing. Hopefully able to guess them easier.
Description, sounds like Bangladesh.
-
I’m thinking Bangladesh too ^_^
-
:D you're both right! Woooho! ^_^
Thanks for joining in you two! Next flag is one I always thought depicted a rooster up until now XP
The Internet, and as we all know it would never lie, informs me that it depicts: six equal horizontal bands of black yellow, red, black, yellow, and red. A white disc is superimposed at the centre and depicts the national symbol, a grey crowned crane, facing the hoist's side.
-
Might be a bit unfair, as I'm a geography nerd, so with simple description, I pretty much know them all.
Yep, the crane gives it a way,, as Uganda. `
-
XD damn, I guess that does give you an advantage! Uganda is right.
Might have to think of ways to make it more challanging for you Firox ;) how about this one: four horizontal stripes. Colours from top to bottom are: yellow, white purple and black
-
I'm stumpped on that one, no idea from the top of my head.
-
The non-binary pride flag? ^_^
-
:D Ves, you got it! ^_^
According to Wikipedia, the yellow stripe represents people outside of the cisgender binary, the white stripe represents people with multiple genders, the purple stripe represents people who identify as a blend of male and female and the black stripe represents agender people.
Alright, here's a rarer one for you my friends ^_^ a white cross on a black background. The cross is not diagonal.
-
I believe its the flag of COrnish group, but I could be mistaken. If I could only see the image it might be easier.
I'm able to make descriptions on some, but can't see image to copy it, so I would miss out on that, if it's alright too.
-
Haha! Finally got you Firox XP it's the Saint Piran's Flag! Which is also known as the Flag of Cornwall, the Cornish flag one could.... s... say....
Damn it! XD he's right once more! Ehm, I mean congrats! You got it!
I see we have a crowd of experts here, hmm~ what am I gonna do about this? Perhaps this one is less immediately clear! A horizontal tricolour of red, yellow and green with a black star in the centre.
-
It's easy for sure, Ghana.
I know I can't post image since I won't be able to see it anyways.
One I struggled with for a while, easy to get wrong.
Description: Three vertical tri colored bands of Navy, yellow, and red.
*giggles* can you tell?
-
hmm Belgium? ^_^
-
VVS, it's not Belgium since it has black, not dark blue.
Don't want to give it away yet without seeing if Wuff can guess it.
Only clue is that it looks nearly identical to another flag, Almost impossible to tell the difference.
3 vertical bars of Navy - Yellow - Red.
-
Hmmhmm~ oh man :sweatdrop: I'm not sure at all. Is it an African flag? The yellow stands out to me
-
Oo hang on - Romania maybe?
-
Surprise no one knows it. At least right from Africa that is.
The country is Chad. I'm saying difficult since the flag of Romania looks so identical. When you set them side by side they look exactly the same. When I bought my stick flag collection, I had such a hard time telling them apart.
Apparently, Chad is supposed to be navy, or dark blue, while Romania's flag is a slightly lower shade of navy.
How about an easy one then. Country has four official languages.
Flag description: Entirely red with a nice white big cross in the middle.
-
Oh this one feels like cheating for me XP but it's clearly Swaziland!
XD I kid, it's Switzerland.
Speaking of Flags with different geometry: two pennons (triangular flags) stacked on each other with blue boarders, crimson red on the inside, with a white sun and cresent moon on it
-
That's a fun and unique one as well, it's Nepal.
Also a fun one, can't post image but can describe it, leaving only a small part out since it has the name of the country on it.
It's three horizontal bars of red on top, white in the middle, and blue on the bottom.
Front side of the half, in the middle is the national coat of arms.
It features two lines of red and blue in a circular shape, name of the country wirrten written on top, the middle of the coat of arms features a star, and ribbons along the bottom.
While the back of the flag has the seal of the treasury.
Also features the red and blue circular lines, and it has a lion with a large stick on top has the hat of independence, and has written on top 'Paz Y Justicia' which translates to Peace and justice.
-
Hmmm Paraguie (no idea how to spell it >.>)? ^_^
-
Oh I think you're right Ves! Incredible :D
-
That's right, its spelled 'Paraguay' in South America.
How about my favorite looking flag of all countries, no offense to any other nation, it's just my favorite of all looking flags.
It has a red square all around the flag, taking about one third, and the top and bottom of the flag has three yellow stars, so six in total.
Now the middle part of the flag, it's split in an X shape, as the top and bottom are yellow in color, while the two left and right sides are green.
The left side, or called the hoist', has a yellow outline of a nutmeg.
Also the flag has a slightly smaller disk in the middle of the x shape with another yellow star.
Hopefully no offense to any other nation, but this island country in the Caribbean also has my favorite sounding national anthem, at least one of my top 5 favorites.
-
I think it's Jamaica :D
... oh gosh, no, I'm an idiot. It's Grenada right?
-
If one of my sonas could be here, she would be tearing up in happiness, but outside the RP, I only keep Firox. Mainly since that sona, CHarlene, is from Grenada.
Yep that's right. It's Grenada.
Would take eight hours of reading or more to describe my favorite of all flags, due to it's complicated rug pattern, so will try to describe it horribly short.
Majority of the flag is green, near the hoist side is a maroon red rug pattern, now the complicated part so will only keep it very short, it has 5 ornamental nomad patterns inside, and to leaves underneath. Those ornamental patterns are super detailed, between the patterns are triangular shaped arrows
After the maroon red near the top five white stars, along with a white crescent moon.
Again, no offense, out of every national anthem in the world, this country is my favorite sounding at the moment.
For me it's not posting the IMG tags, but it's actually getting the link to the flag itself without the aide of the usb mouse.
-
Oh! This is one of the -stan countries! :squint: mmmmhmm is it Turkmenistan?
-
Yes it is, so cool looking but so overly complicated.
This one can be tough or easy depending on your overall knowledge of Geography.
Majority of the flag is that dark Navy blue, and has a thin yellow line near the middle of the flag representing the equator, and down below a bit off centered has a white star, can't remember how many points it has, somewhere between 12 and 16
-
Oh gosh... is the yellow line horizontal? And does it span the whole flag?
-
A thin vertical line actually. It might seem a bit hard to guess so will give it away.
It's a tiny island nation in the Pacific Ocean, it's called...
Nauru
hopefully another easier one. It combines three flags in one. St. George's flag of a white background with a red cross in the middle, St. Andrew's cross which is a blue flag with a white cross going around tip to tip. Can't remember what the other one is called a white flag with the red X cross shape on it.
So the current flag has the red St. George's flag in the middle and each individual canton, or 'squre' has a blue background with the red X-cross on a white thinner outline.
shouldn't give it a way too easily but 'God save the gracious king, long live the noble king, God save the king, send him victorious, happy and glorious, long to reign over us, God save the king!'
-
Oo the Union Jack! ^_^
-
That's right.
How about another one that seems easy, but so hard to figure out.
Similar reason to CHad and Romania earlier.
First of Flag Description: To vertical bars, top is red, and the bottom is white.
now why so troubling? since technically, the only difference is that the one I'm describing is slightly bit smaller, while the other country is slightly bit longer.
When you put the two 'stick flags' together, they look exactly the same, so hard to tell the difference.
Main clue is that this version is in Europe.
-
Ah I think that's Austria right :D the other similar one being Indonesia
-
It's not Austria since they have an additional red vertical bar, the one I mentioned doesn't.
The flag is for the micronation of Monaco.
How about one that might be easy or difficult based on your knowledge.
Description: it has two Horizontal halves, hoist side or left is yellow, while the fly, or right end is white.
In the middle of the white are two keys in an X cross shape. One key is white with a black outline, the other key is dark grey.
It's supported by what appears to be red ribbons on it.
Likely the giveaway, it has what appears to be Pope's hat on it as well.
It's the smallest country in the world and the only one where Latin is the official language.
-
Vatican City! ^_^
-
:) alright I'll throw in one
Divided diagonally from the lower hoist-side corner to the upper fly-side corner; the upper triangle is yellow and the lower triangle is orange, with a white dragon holding four jewels in its claws centered along the dividing line and facing away from the hoist.
-
Darsha, one of my sonas, will be so happy since she is from that country.
It's called Bhutan.
Here is a fun one.
It has a square around the entire flag, red in color, taking up about half the flag.
The inside of the red square is green, with a single white Moon crescent.
Wish I could post the image though.
Main clue is that the nation is slowly sinking under the rising sea oceans.
-
from that last hint i was going to say Venice but thats a city isnt it :facepaw:
-
So true, Venice is a city in Italy, one of my sonas is from Venice.
The nation is called Maldives. It's made up of about 200 atolls, only about 4 or so islands are inhabited. Its located just south of India.
Another to guess: It's made of a vertical white on the fly or lef side, the other side of the flag is made up of two horizontal bars of red and green, truthfully can't remember which one is on top and which one is the bottom.
Main clue is the largest island of Africa, and a funny cgi movie and TV series has the name of the country on it, so your main clue is "The Penguins Of 'country name" as the TV Series, and the movie if I remember has the title of the country in i, featuring a Lion, a Hippo, a giraffe, and for some reason a koala.
-
Ah Madagascar! ^_^
Now my turn to add a flag for guessing: a horizontal tricolour, from top to bottom the colours are, yellow, green and red!
-
That's a fun one, it's Lithuania.
And your also correct on Madagascar too.
how about this one: Description:
Its the St. George flag, white, with a '+' csign in the midde middle.
Main difference is that it has a six pointed star outlined on it and the very center has a right arm on it.
-
Hmmmm Northern Ireland?
-
That's right, one of my friends live there.
How about a fun one:
Description: it has two horizontal bars, the top is white, while the bottom is green.
The middle has a red dragon, with darker red outlines as it's features. It has it's left paw raised, what appears to be it's tongue sticking out, and has it's tail curled with the red spade pointing up.
for me it has the most difficult national anthem to try to pronounce it's words.
likely the main hint: I can't pronounce correctly any of those Cymru words.
-
Wales! ^_^
-
I love Wales ^_^
Let's get another creature featuring flag in here!
Wikipedia describes it as follows: A golden field with two panels: the smaller hoist-side panel has only two vertical bands of teal and orange and the larger fly-side panel is the maroon field depicting the golden lion holding the kastane sword in its right fore paw in the center and four bo tree (bodhi tree) leaves on each corner and the golden field appears as a border around the entire flag and extends in between the two panels, all bordering together.
-
That's an easy one, and good looking as well.
It's Sri Lanka.
How about a controversial one, depending on who you ask it's either a country or not.
It has a red Triangle on the hoist side, or the left side depending on what you call it.
The rest of the flag has three horizontal bars of black on top, white in the middle, and green on the bottom.
it's been on the news quite a lot
-
Palestine! ^_^
-
That's right, feel free to post another, hopefully Wuff Wuff agrees, even if you get the guess right or wrong.
Here is another very similar flag to Palestine, and even more controversial. As almost everyone says it's not a country but part of Morocco. Tha'ts your main clue there.
Same flag as Palestine above with the red triangle on the left side or hoist, and the three horizontal bars of black on top, white in the middle, and green below.
Main difference is that the white middle bar also has a red crescent moon and a red star as well.
-
:D yeah, any one can throw in one for a guessing round!
Although I must say I'm at a loss here Firox :S please do enlighten us
-
Thanks, any easy or hard one is good enough, a clue or two can also help out, was it VVS I believe.
oh and Wuff Wuff, it's the controversial area known by two names which both are not official names for the 'region'
either "Sahrawi Republic" or 'Western Sahara' just about every country in the UN says that it belongs by 'de facto' to Morocco. Only a few handful of states trying to break away says its a nation.
Alright, an easy one that just about everyone in the world knows, giggles:
Three vertical bars of Blue, White, and Red.
I'm sure the biggest 'dead giveaway' is Paris!
-
France! ^_^
-
Yeah, it's France. That was an easy one.
How about one that made a small change to their flag recently, description:
It's mainly green with a yellow star and a yellow crescent moon underneath the star, the two points of the moon pointing up.
Before the changes in 2018 that was all it had, in that year they added two horizontal red bars on top and bottom.
clue if helpful at all: the country is almost entirely in the Sahara desert, and even features a unique formation of blowing sand that resembles an eye and the natives call it 'The Eye of the Sahara' not sure what the Arabic name for it is.
-
Oh I think it's Mauritiana!
Here's a fictional one! Name the media it came from (bonus points if you know the state that it represents within the fictional world, or the flag it was originally based on) A small hint: it's from a video game.
Description: the flag is mostly white with a thin red stripe at the bottom (horizontal). On the top left of the flag is a red star. In the centre is a depiction of a two headed bear walking on a patch of grass (facing towards the hoist).
-
No idea where it is from. I"m more good with Geography than with media. *giggles* feel free to tell us where it's from. Don't recognize it from the description.
Easy or hard depending on your knowledge of Geography. It is all white.
In the middle is the outline of the island all in yellow.
Right below it are two green leaves.
Bonus - another group on the same island disagree with the flag and they use their own instead.
Which is also mainly white, with two thin red horizontal bars near the top and bottom leaving white bars, and the larger center white has a red crescent moon, and a red star.
clue: one group speaks Greek, the other half speaks Turkish.. There is a 'buffer zone' in the middle that speaks English.
-
Oo Wuff is that the New California Republic flag! and Firox is it the flag of Cyprus?
-
Yep, that is correct,
How about an easy one.
It's three horizontal bars.
Light blue on top
Black in the middle
White below it.
clue Tallin and Narva are two famous cities.
music clue if you even know it, my favorite band sings folk metal in that language using various instruments including Torupill and kannels, the band is Metsatoll, with dierisis over the o, two dots, I don't know the UTF code for it or how to type it.
-
Estonia :D
-
The other baltic nation, likely the giveaway clue.
It has three horizontal bars of White on top, blue in the middle, and white on the bottom.
It also has a Vertical bar near the hoist, or left side forming a cross shape.
their language sounds similar to Estonian. I listen a lot to songs in their language.
Main clue is the capital is Helsinki.
-
@Ves: you were right about New California Republic ^_^
@Firox: must be Finland!
-
*Giggles* - how about the most complicated and hardest flag to guess, no one has ever gotten it correct in their lifetime - *giggles*
it has three vertical bars, the two on the sides are thinner by about one third and they are red in color.
The middle vertical bar is much thicker and inside has a red maple leaf.
*giggles* yep, no one will guess it. *laughing loud*
-
That’s a tough one hehe - Canada?
-
*Giggles* out of millions of guesses others made, someone got it on the first try... *giggles*.... what am I kidding, it's actually the easiest of all. My fellow northern neighbors.
How about... Description.
Mostly white flag, with the American style eagle in the middle, with the star and stripes symbol in the middle.
One of it's talons has olive branches, the other talon has arrows if I not mistaken
On the left side of the eagle has the V on it, and the right side of the eagle has the I it.
-
Hmmmh~ is this by chance a state flag, not a country flag?
-
Not a state, but technically not full country either, kind of hard to explain. It kind of acts like a nation, but belongs to the USA.
Its called the US Virgin Islands, really love how the local national anthem sounds like.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_V9_WnxUOu8
next one, can you guess right?
It has a blue triangle on the hoist, or left side reaching half the flag, and has a single white star on it. The remainder of the flag has five vertical stripes. Top is red, then a white bar, the middle one is red, the one below is white, and the bottom is red.
Clue, similar to the US Virgin Islands, it's officially part of the USA but kind of acts like it's own country. Capital is San Juan. Spanish is spoken more than English.
-
Puerto Rico ^_^?
-
That's right there. My mom has a friend from Puerto Rico. I think my mom said they went back to live in Puerto Rico for a while.
You can also leave a description for us to guess, someone will try to guess it.
For now - Description:
Entire flag is red in color, it does feature a white disk in the middle, and has a crescent and star also red in color.
Clue: majority of the country is a desert, I believe it's the Jebba Desert. Of course the easy giveaway, its in north Africa.
-
Turkey ^_^
-
Not at all, not even in the same continent. Turkey is in Europe.
Would wait for Wuff Wuff to guess but guessing they aren't coming any time soon.
It's called Tunisia.
Another super easy one.... or I can lie and say its the hardest anime of all to guess... I mean flag to guess.
It's all white with a red disk in the middle.
Oh well, already gave away the main clue of anime. Another clue is that my favorite seafood was invented there, yep Sushi!
-
oh whoops hehe @.@
Hmm not sure about this one.. Japan ^_^?
-
Yep, the land of sushi and Anime in Japan.
How about... description:
Mostly green background field, and a yellow diamond in the center.
The center diamond has a blue globe with a white ribbon on it with Portuguese writing.
The smaller top part of the globe has a single white star.
While the rest of the blue globe features lots of stars in various constellations I know of only one by memory which is the southern cross.
main blues are Samba and the my favorite part the Amazon rain forest
-
Ooo Brazil!
Now a flag to guess: five different coloured bands (blue, yellow, red, white, and green) starting from the bottom left and diverging towards the top right.
-
Yep, it is Brazil. great work.
For the guess, without the aide of the image, going with the description... my guess is.
Seychelles, a country in Africa
another one I like and is easy to describe.
Three horizontal bars of white on top, green in the middle and red on the bottom.
clue: is where the Cyrillic alphabet was created.
-
Oh, is it Bulgaria ^_^ ?
Here's one to throw a curveball; name me the piece of media in which this Flag appears:
Mainly black, with a big red V in the middle which depicts two hands (one white and one black) shaking. On the bottom part of the V there's a white text field with the letters "I N G S O C" in black on it. I'll give Firox the letters together as well: ingsoc
-
Yep, it is Bulgaria.
No idea what it is, haven't seen it before. Will let VDS give it a guess before making another description.
-
Ingsoc sounds familiar - is it 1984? ^_^
-
Wishes you had left one to guess VDS.
Hopefully Wuff Wuff tells us which one it is.
How about an easy one if you know geography.
Description:
Three horizontal bars. Left or hoist is Green
Middle is yellow.
Far right or fly is red.
clue: is in Africa.
-
1984 is right :D ingsoc is short for English Socialism, the rather malicious state in the story.
Uff... Cameroon?
-
At least the continent is right, but wrong nation.
Its in western Africa called Mali.
changing continent, hopefully and easy one.
Description:
Navy blue is the majority of the flag. Top left has the union jack.
Below the union jack is a large seven pointed star.
On the larger Navy blue side are five more white seven pointed stars arranged in the Southern Cross constellation.
Clue: I'm sure the Tasmanian Devil is a clue, and so are the Funnel Web Spiders, box jellyfish, and hundreds of other poisonous species.
Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide some other clues.
For me the biggest shocking clue: is that they moved from Oceania to Asia.
-
Australia? ^_^
-
How did you guess? *giggles* was it that Looney Tunes reference? **laughing*
Hopefully counts, as it's no longer used today. A historical flag.
Its almost all red in color.
The top hoist has a red star outlined in yellow. Along with a hammer and sickle as well in yellow.
main clue: in 1991 the nation fell apart, and became about 15 different countries.
-
Soviet Union Flag ^_^
-
That's right.
For fun, another historical flag.
Three horizontal bars.
Black on top
Red in the middle.
yellow on the bottom.
The middle of the red had a red circle outlined in yellow tree branches. The middle had a hammer and a sailing pendent.
The very top of the circle laying on part of the black horizontal bar had the red star with the yellow outline.
The bottom of the emblem had a few ribbons in the same shape as the horizontal bars over laying the yellow horizontal bar.
clue: if I'm not mistaken existed in 1959 to around 1989 or so.
-
Hmm I’m not sure about this one ^_^ we’ll see what wuff says
-
I've got to dissapoint you all :'( I have no clue
-
I was known as DDR, sorry for my badly written German, Deusches Demokratien Respublik, most of the world knew it as
East Germany.
alrighty, an easy one
three vertical bars.
Green on the left or fly
White in the center
Orange on the right or hoist
clue: Leprachauns, four leaf clover, and having an alphabet that I struggle trying to read it when I could see.
-
republic of ireland ! ^_^
-
Very good, got it on the first try.
How about this one:
Description:
Three vertical bars.
Orange on the left side or Fly
White in the middle.
Green on the right, or hoist side.
Clues: Africa, country's name is written in French.
-
Oooh! Côte Ivoire, the Ivory coast!
This one should be easy. It's a tricolour with red triangle on the hoist side. Colours are Teal, Black and Yellow. The big give away is that there's a few symbols in the red triangle. One can be read, one can be shot and one can be used for farming.
-
Not much aide from the description. Probably one I don't recognize. Will let VDS take a guess at it.
Since no idea from me. Likely it isn't something I recognize.
-
Hmmm not sure on this one - from the colours I’m guessing it’s in Africa?
-
Africa is correct!
I'll be more descriptive: there are two thin white stripes between the Teal and Black and between the Black and Yellow.
The symbols are: a book, a hoe and a kalashnikov
-
I could be wrong, will guess it's eSwatni.
I'm sure Wuff will let me know if it's wrong.
changing continents.
Description:
Three horizontal bars. Red on Top, yellow in the middle, green on the bottom. Coat of arms in the middle.
Will try best to describe the coat of arms without the aide of a visual image.
A large oval shape in the middle, with another oval shape just outside of the center one. This one features a yellow hut like building, and a vucuna on a green field, with a blue sky.
The outter ring is in two halves. The bottom halve is green with at least twelve yellow stars, and the top is yellow with the name of the country. written in red.
Near the top of the oval design are three flags without the coat of arms on both sides, and a ribbon on the bottom.
The very top of the oval between the flags is a condor., a large predatory bird.
Clue: in South America. it it supposedly has two different capital cities of Sucre, and the more known La Paz.
-
Woah! How do I not know this flag? That sounds insane! Hmmh~ I'm drawing a blank here :?
Btw the one I posted before was Mozambique :)
-
Since Firox seems to be absent for a while I'll quickly post a new one for any fellow guessers (or knowers!)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Description: Eleven horizontal stripes alternating red and white; in the canton, a white star on a blue field (basically USA with one star)
-
Hmm.. Cuba??
-
Uh same colours, but think of a different continent ^_^ I'll give a small hint: It's name translates to something like "freedom"
-
... LIBERIA! Isn't it?! I... >.> spent way too long staring, asked a friend, who started joshing me that it was the 'United State of America' -- which gave me enough mental buffer to remember just what it was 9_9
-
XD yes! You got it! Thank god for your friend :D
Alright, let's go for a simple but effective one :) Description: A large yellow star centered on a red field.
-
Oh you're very close Ves :D they have the same colours
The answer iiiiis *drumroll* Columbia
--------‐----‐‐---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alright ^_^ our next flag is a personal favourite of mine. It consist of a red disk on a dark green banner, the red disk is offset slightly toward the hoist.
Is that the Vietnam flag?
-
:D Correct!
Thanks for joining in Famous Furry. ^_^
The next one: A horizontal triband of red, blue and red, with a white circle in the centre
(https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/56/Flag_of_Laos.svg/255px-Flag_of_Laos.svg.png)
-
Something something Laos...
-
:D jee correct Lukas!
