Title: When did you turn Fur?

For me, it was a direct result of some Brian Jaques books. He writes the Redwall series,  :th_Pyong-1: all sorts of mice and bagders and stufff that fight against bad animals. So, for me, I was twelve. How about you guys and girls?  ???

It was a really gradual change for me, really, so there isn't a point when I wasn't, then decided I was, a furry. If I had to pick a particular point though, it would be when I got interested in furry skins on IMVU.

As said by Forsaken, I think I've been a furry my whole life. I always pretended to be an animal rather than myself. I was little odd with my group of friends because whenever we role played outside as kids, I always had to be something animalistic. I was absolutely addicted to Disney movies with animals in them, and constantly drew animals rather than people. I never really knew I was furry until about a year or more ago when I was showing a picture of an anthropomorphic fox I drew to my friends. My best friend, now mate, kinda gave me a funny look and called me a furry. And from then on I knew the term for it.

Around 14... can't remember why I turn (it was gradual), but I was without PC and internet (thought that I'm the only crazy one on the world :d)

Ahh you beat me to it Lady...as said before me I was always apparently a furry I was always playing as a wolf or dog and I loved the Robin Hood movie but I finally came into the fandom when I gotten my first skin on IMVU, and here I am now posting on a furry forum.

Same as Forsaken and Nyx.
My childhood was hard so I spent most of my
time in the woods in tree forts or hollowed bushes
and I've always had a strong emotional connection
to animals and nature. So much that the thought
of freedom in that sense broke my heart every time
I thought of it and it still does. I used to pretend
I was an animal, it sounds odd or crazy to some
people, but to me it just felt right. Being in the woods
surrounded by nothing but trees and when the
sunlight flooded in through the leaves everything
looked beautiful, and I'd always pretend that it
was all there was to the world, just me and the woods,
and it made me happy for the most part.

Anyways~ I've always had that feeling. I don't
think I'm an animal, I just feel like I don't belong
in the human world, that's all really.. x3
But the internet opened my eyes to other people
who felt kinda the same way I did and embraced it.

I love being a furry. :'3

I  was always a furry, even as a really young child.
My fursona changed from year to year ( From Dog to Wolf to Cheetha to a Cat to a Bat [ Yes I just reliazed it rhymed <.<"] ) when I was young.
I think my "furry-ness" grew stronger and more noticable to me and others when I entered middle school.( Once I got re-addicted to Furcadia. )
I never knew what it was exactly called or if anyone else was like me untill my 8th grade year when I met PrincessWilly through a Furcadia room and I got totally filled in about the amazing world of the Furry Sub-culture.
So then I had a name for what I was: A furry.

Most of the furries in here have been a furry at birth :P It's in our blood I guess.

I've been a furry ever since I can remember just didn't know what it was called...Disney got me hooked on being a furry..i Later found out mroe about it when I entered High school I met my (now best friend) Rob...i forget how exactly it went...but we found out that we were both furries...and he took me to a small group of kids in one of the empty hallways during lunch and found out there were more furries in my school...we all became good friends

I don't know anyone in real life who's a furry..
 When I did a debate speech about furries different people came up to me and talked to me about it. I think I converted a few...lol... But a few told me that they were excited to see someone had the courage to say something they couldn't. So that's how I figured a few out. ^_^

For me, I think I've always had some sort of thought in my head that I wanted to be a different non-human species. I remember that I used to run around on all fours for most of my childhood, probably up until I was about 12 or 13 (I'm now 15, going on 16). Also around 13, I started roleplaying as a wolf on this one game's chat on Yahoo!. There were about four or five others with me and I guess that's the first time I'd really had internet friends. One of them eventually told me about Furcadia and I immediately checked it out for myself. I was hooked. xD I made friends on there, as well, and I eventually found out about IMVU. And here I am today. x3 I've especially noticed that after I went vegetarian I realized how much I cared for animals and now that I'm semi-vegan I know that I really love animals, in a more personal way, I suppose (not that non-vegetarians/vegans can't love animals just as much as a veggie-head like me can x3). After not posting anything on here for a long time and forgetting to check the forum a lot (I never was ALL that active on here to begin with, though, so if I'm not recognizable I'll understand. xD), I've realized that being a furry seems like it's a big part of who I am, so I came back.   :peek:

I used to be totally obsessed with werewolves...then werecreatures.... then I went onto a fantasy website
and out came (clean) pictures of furrys! I was amazed  :sparkle:
So I guess I became a furry around 10-11 years old, but didn't actually know what it was called then.
But soon found out via IMVU and have been a proper furry since late 11- early 12 years :D

I'm not sure what counts as a fur, really... I'm not sure if I really am one yet, if I'm in a stage of "transitioning" to it... I really don't know. I like growling though.  :snicker:

Well there's a lot of things.. members of the fandom could even just like anthro art or the suits. Some just like to RP as an animal. Though I'm sure it's a given that you have to love animals. x3 Most have some strong connection to animals than they do to other humans. There's a lot that actually believe they're animals.. I wouldn't go so far into that myself.. because I can't deny my humanity. I can just deny that it's meant to be that way. xD Some feel like they were an animal in another life.. some feel that they have an animal soul, or are part animal or wild. Some see humans as just another animal species, and they embrace that aspect.. as in giving in to primal instincts and desires. There's a lot of ways you can be a furry, without giving into the general stereotypes that make us an outcast to society. Though I think anyone can be a furry.. even the ones who hate it so much. You don't need to grow up having that connection. I think it's when you give your heart to nature.. you start to feel like all creatures are equal and we're all just trying to survive. For me that line between animals and humanity was blurred, and all I see is life. So naturally seeing animals caged and such hurts me, because I imagine how I'd feel being caged my entire life like that. Though as I said, you don't need to have that connection to be a furry. You can just love animals or like the art. ^^

For me I have always been a fur, I just never knew what it meant to be one. I grew up loving Disney movies and playing with plushes. I drew animals. it wasn't  till  I got my own computier when i was a teenager did I discovered furry art and the fringes of the furry communtiy. As a teen I also saw that legendary "Fur and Loathing' episode of CSI which was when I disovered fursuits and furries. I turely discovered my fursona and the commuity when I got to college this year and was able to surf the web with fear of my parents discovering my secret. So I guess you can say I truely became a fur when in college. But in my heart I have always been an animal of some sort.
