Title: Angry at the Press
Post by: Thaddeus Q. Wolfe on February 13, 2008, 03:24:28 AM
What's with all the negative propaganda?  ???  It's not only on the news but in people's art work and tv dramas.  We aren't all messed up in the head like they say they are, are we? Your opinions please.

I have no idea why they hate us so much but I am going to guess they misinterpret how we love animals, they think it must mean we are into beastality and or other gross acts to animals themselves.  Also I have noticed that the cartoon show on Adult Swim, Aqua Teen Hunger Force is going to have an episode making front of furries....

Yea, they gonna censore Cartoon Network for furry heroes and remove any antropomorphical toons from shop logos or advertisements xD
They picked up on black men, Jews, Cignas, Muslims, etc, it's time to find some new enemy... who cares what they think and talk, it's just new perfect target for public opinion... ==''

the media doesnt concentrate too much on every subject, they mostly take a quick look, and decide what they're gonna write as soon as they think they've got enough info... and try to make a google picture search on furry, i assure you, most of it will be directly on the way to yiff, and that kinda makes furries look bad to everyone trying a search for it, including the journos who decide to check it out...

this has happened to multiple lifestyles already (think about Goth and Punk), and its gonna continue until every ''different'' lifestyle gets classified as ''weird'' ''perverted'' or ''violent''

The furry lifestyle and even the fandom really is very strange. One need not say so with a negative connotation, but it is undeniably true.

*Hands out a lifetime supply of salt to go with the whine.

Quote
propaganda

The active manipulation of opinion by means that include distortion or concealment of the truth. It is useful to distinguish agitation propaganda, that seeks to change attitudes, from integration propaganda, that seeks to reinforce already existing attitudes. The borderline between education and indoctrination, or objective statement and political speech, can be hard to define both in practice and theory.

What else would you expect from someone trying to push a story for money?

It's not only on the news but in people's art work and tv dramas.

As for art the burden of proof for individual works containing "propaganda" is on you.
Making arbitrary claims on something so subjective is rather asinine.
As for "tv dramas" I wouldn't call it propaganda. That's entertainment...............................................
As for news you need to understand no one is going to be equally informed enough to cover the issue completely
let alone always be motivated to make it a fluff piece just to make you feel good about yourself for
being a part of something that's connected to all kinds of bizarre interest and taboos.

So, is that just a grammatical slip up or do you really mean to say that "they" say "they" are "messed up in the head"? :snicker:

Depends on what you call "normal." Anything can be considered strange.

from what i understand from our previous PM exchange, you consider anything without physical proof or out of the ordinary as strange, excuse me if im wrong, but isnt that a extremely narrow view?

You know why? Cuz we're better than they are.

Naw I'm just kidding we're all equal. Furries are just an easy target.

From what I've gathered the hate of furries comes from depth of understanding. Transformers, for example, transform. They have guns. They beat the crap out of each other. That's all there is and that happens to be what people like. Transformers has a very shallow understanding. Furries, on the other hand, when viewed from a shallow viewpoint are yiffing freaks, but if you take the time to understand and listen you can learn they are like your averge Joe, but just have an interest in a certain artform. Furry fandom has a deep understanding.

It is a very narrow view. Hence why it's not mine. I define strange in this sense as abnormal. Anthros, or people dressed as them, or artwork depicting them, are not things you see every day if you're not looking for them. They stick out. That is what strangeness is.

I don't consider this entirely true not all anthros dress as their fursona although some do this is entirely a choice on their part, as for art it shouldn't be anything other than what it is and that would be art, just like any other types of art.  Just remember anything could be regarded as strange.

Indeed. We are all strange. Now, the definition of strange is something that's out of the ordinary.. That doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad thing. When you get down to it, everyone is strange in their own ways. I agree with Blackout on how furs are viewed, though. There's a deeper understanding than other things; people just don't take the time to learn.

Why is everyone at me like I'm some kind of troll? I never said strange was bad, just that the furry community is strange, or odd, or abnormal, or whatever it is you want to call it, which is why it is such an easy target. Just because anything can be called strange doesn't mean everything generally is.

Very many things are strange, but it doesn't make them an easy target, nor are they hated.

C'mon people hate almost everything... i saw even "Harry Potter hate sites"
Or "30 reasons why i hate potatoes" (buheheheh)
No mature man with work and kids will create such stupid sites, that's work of kids without life. Flaming is trendy now...

I never claimed you were a troll. I agreed with you that we are strange.

you know what? i agree with this claim, come to think of it, i've never seen anything that everyone likes, there are always haters... and the bigger the club, the more haters, which also explains why there are so few haters at things like shamanism, therianthropy, lycanthropy etc,

True, but despiite the existence of those hate sites, they are not hated not nearly as much as furries.
