Title: FluffyGorer's artwork thread.
Post by: MisterCarey991 on February 07, 2018, 05:09:25 PM
Hello, guys. How you doing today? I hope you're fine.

This is my recent art, I would like to have some critiques to learn about them and make a better artwork in the future:

AWWW these are wonderful and let me get more specific as to why,

-bold lines- i'm such a sketch myself i wished i drew strong like you more often, and what did you even do with that bike-scene, there's something with it that makes it actually feel downhill, what a cool thing! >w< and the others are also such cuties,

if you feel there's something missing in your work, or that you aren't satisfied, sometime you can look at your favourite artists and ask yourself "how are they doing this". But you want to keep the questions very small and specific. Say you find a drawing where the character has a really hecking awesome shaded eye. Then you can think about what it is that makes it so, and see if you can come up with a rule for it and apply it to other things. Like, absorb and mix and apply x)

Thank you for those sweets compliments and for taking time to reply in my thread! ᏊˊꈊˋᏊ

I actually love messy sketches although I can't do them, so don't worry about that, everyone has a different style.
The bike scene is a commission I have sent (so sorry it doesn't has a good quality), glad to know that looks like a realistic downhill, I'm not  quite good at scenarios, so I've always wondered if it was okay.

I think my worst problem is anatomy, I have been searching for online courses but I have not been able to find any that fits me. I will try your method, actually, and I'm gonna start with specific parts of the body.  Thank you!! Ꮚ^ꈊ^Ꮚ

^u^ and thank u for sharing your lovely artwork!

anatomy is one of those things that can get you really unmotivated. Because "learning anatomy" is not a goal you can win, it will never end, so there's no celebration ;W;

But if you learn anatomy as small goals while you are drawing, that's so much fun! Say you are making an awesome drawing but maybe a leg looks a bit wonky. That just means you can ask "hmm, what should I do with this wonky leg to make it look a little better?" and you practice a little and make the leg better. WOOOO I am victorious and the master of anatomy! And you make every drawing a little better, and a little better and then without noticing, you'll be an actual master!

So i don't think you need to go study "anatomy" specifically, but study it bit by bit as you need it in your drawings. At least I think you'll improve whichever way Ꮚ^ꈊ^Ꮚ

Your artwork is great!
but since you asked for some critique, this is what I got,

youre really heavy on your lines. (sometimes ot is a style choice and thats okay because I do it myself from time to time.)

what I mean is, on the same line you mostly only have one thickness, if you want to increase the depth of a drawing then taper the lines so that the same line varies in thickness. It really helps!

Thank you, seriously!

I'm glad you like it, I'm quite proud of this drawing and how the colouring ended, all pastels, haha!

Your art got much better, and even before I loved it. Great job!

Thank you, it makes me so happy to know that someone who has seen my drawings years ago thinks that!

Looove the linework in the third one, but it's hard to tell what's going on with the character.

Is it the gesture or the ink?
Feel free to critique me all that you want, I really want to improve.  :D

This one! The ink.

The quality of the lines and the background is pretty gosh darn perfect. And maybe it's just because I have no idea what species this thing is supposed to be in the drawing, but it more or less looks like an elongated blob with hair and horns to me. Can't tell where the face is, if there is one, I don't understand the tiny weird arm that looks like it's hanging over the blanket, and its one arm holding the cup is the only part of it that looks like it has any bones. It's pretty confusing to me.

I mean if that's what it's supposed to look like, then you nailed it lol, but I feel like that's maybe not what you intended?

This is the reference artwork I had: https://toyhou.se/1141528.hayden-holy-#4217313 (https://toyhou.se/1141528.hayden-holy-#4217313)

Any tip to make people notice a mystic creature even if they don't now how it really is? I mean, make something come out of the drawing?

Now that you have seen the reference, you can recognize the character or does it still seem weird?

Sorry for all those questions, I really appreciate your advice.

That's really hard to say, but I would think you would aim for something unique on the character that separates it from other characters people see on a day-to-day basis.

Okay, now that I see the reference, you're definitely close to it. It is just a weird design to begin with. I'd still recommend a little more definition in the torso, arms, and legs though so it looks like there's more "structure" under there.

Like obviously it's a thin character, but the chest looks extremely thin. Rib cage removed and anorexic thin.

Dragon taurs are adorable. I really like all I've seen. My only suggestion I can think of for scenes, like the bike, if a strong LOA. Which, I can't even follow myself, and seems decent in most pictures anyway.  XD

To be honest, my original idea wasn't like this and the gesture was really different, but since the character description said some stuff he liked, I tried to make a mix and make him look more natural. Yeah, that's it.

I will add a extra layer of ink to make it don't look like that and I will try to define better the body (I really need to learn anatomy basics, lol). Thank you a lot for your help!

I think that they're really cute too, there is some art of the character that looks amazing. That's a great advice, I really didn't thought about it and I don't think I follow too much.
