You maybe have heard it, IMVU will start soon adding a Tax system. It is at the moment unknown how much Tax it will be exactly but sure is that the taxes will be at the "give credits" option.
What does that mean?
As more money you send to a person as more credits will be taken as tax fee. Here are a example: If you send a person 20000 credits and the taxt is 10% the person you send the credits will only get 18000 credits and 2000 credits will be lost. This will be special bad for the organisations that support new developers since they will always loose credits when sending them to the supported people.
The Developer Guild of IMVU started a protest at IMVU against it and we hope that we can count at you all.

The forum post regarding it: http://www.imvu.com/catalog/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpbb2&file=viewtopic.php&t=185607
Remember to note:
The information you all have been provided as gossip was done without the permission of IMVU or the resellers who in confidence were in discussion with our internal team to help give us feedback since they would be affected the most, and also without full details which led to scaring this community. Much of what's been posted thusfar has been saying that this is going to affect every user on the site. This is currently a change targeting resellers, and as stated, we have been talking to many of them as we work on this.
That being said, I am opposed to the whole idea. I'm too tired of IMVU's shenanigans...
-
I also am against this.... though not a developer myself I can see where this can lead to nothing but trouble. If you payed for the credits shouldn't you be able to do as you please? They are trying to cut corners and add more advertisements....frankly I am really tired of Miss Greenbacks....clogging up my private messages....

The only problem is that the code was already implemented (as shown by the GIF image that placed by Alice, which if you want to examine it closely, you have to seperate the images within it where it shows the credit tax) and IMVU has been known to do things against customer popular opinion. (Example: "Dashboard"/"Updates Panel" was something that was almost unanimously turned down when first implemented. It was turned down back in October.)

The only problem is that the code was already implemented...
So first let me apologize for not being forth-coming on the transaction charge which appeared at the 0% in the tool. Once we learned this was actually on, Rob and I both sent in requests for it to be turned off. We want to let you all know this was not meant to be enabled for view -- this was an internal miscommunication which has been fixed, and it currently only relates to resellers, whom we have been in communication with about this process. The transaction charge has been turned off, and was set at 0% the entire time it was live, meaning no users were charged anything, nor were there any plans to do.
...Bleh... I'm sticking up for IMVU way more than I should. People will start getting the idea that I support their little "suggestions." Rather, I just think it's good to be properly informed.
Although you are right, Vosur. If they're "testing it out," they obviously aren't just "talking it over."
-
I'll only trust IMVU as far as I can throw them... which limits me to a very few Staff members whom I've had good dealings with.
-
Taxes? omg...we Canadians already pay enough taxes here...we're getting screwed for gas right now...$1 a liter...
What will Miss. Greenbacks come out with next? some kinda pension plan on IMVU? like seriously...!!
Miss.Greenbacks is probably about as bad of an IMVU banker as George Bush is being president...
We don't need anymore stupid little things for IMVU to make money and taking advantage of the users...
I am 100% against this...

concerning introducing a tax to IMVU in order to help with credit depletion and to keep the value of currency that Resellers assign to the credit strong,
They should just stop giving away so many predits if they're worried about the value of the resold credit.
IMVU saturating the community with free credits is what's causing "credit depletion" and the drop or lower prices of the resold credit.
Also IMVU doesn't have control over those prices. All taxes will do is cause inflation.
Haven't they ever heard of capitalism?
cap·i·tal·ism (kăp'ÄÂÂ-tl-ÄÂÂz'É™m) pronunciation
n.
An economic system in which the means of production and distribution are privately or corporately owned and development is proportionate to the accumulation and reinvestment of profits gained in a free market.
Who knows what's next?
A break even price based on a percentage of the final product price after increased mark ups?
Just kidding.

As I've seen it, IMVU will do as they please and for no concern for the customer of IMVU. So... my ability to trust them is still 'as far as I can throw them'.
-
6) Q. Is this a plot to get more money out of everyone?
A. Far from it. What we are trying to do is put in place some safeguards to ensure that our economy is balanced and fair for all our Users. This may mean we need to take some corrective actions, some with no impact and some with a little pain. The end goal is to prevent inflation and preserve the value of your credits.
Wrong.
The point is to keep making money.
Though it is a step in the right direction... lol
If IMVU goes out of business then all those brats and some normal people will have to find a new place to drive into the ground.
Seriously....keep them dummies gathered up away from me. lol
-
I've actually seen only a few Staff members who even acted trustworthy... and I can count them in one hand easily.
-
Let me guess there are 4 of them?
-
Less... but these are the ones I've seen, which there could be more... just not more open.

Meh...should have known. I have also noticed that at least twice a month they always come up with some "oh look this scene is so awesome!" nonsense. Also when they took away the gold pass and added VIP status it is the just the same but gold doesn't charge monthly. I am grandfathered in, I still get a small discount but why would they remove it?
-
I hardly get on IMVU now.. The only way I know how to tlak to my friend is to get on there.
I don't know her AIM or anything so yeah...
She's a friend from about a year ago.
We were RP friends in a big group, I forgot what happened...
But then.. our whole group sorta... broke up.
It just sucked.

Probably to get more people to buy the VIP membership.

Im against this but (lol) IMVU MAKE THE GD CREDITS!
Can't they just make more for themselves?
-
Can't they just make more for themselves?
That's the problem. Too many credits are saturating the market.
They're trying to reduce the supply.
And also by doing that they're attempting to help keep demand up by slowing the fall the value of the credit.
If there weren't any destruction of credits (submission fees, taxes, etc) the demand for credits would drop
and almost bottom out. But considering IMVU keeps making them that'll deplete the value of the credit.
Not just for resellers or IMVU, but for developers as well.
That stamp you got for 200 predits might eventually cost you a few thousand without any
checks and balances for the economy.
IMVU should increase the markup some to help reflect inflation.
The only reason people are against this is because they're too quick to jump on the bandwagon.
IMVU keeps listening to all those whiny idiots who're always wanting stuff for little or no effort.
They're like " nooooo not my credits. give me more."
Then people want to ignore the fact that IMVU is learning about stuff along the way too.
IMVU does have a communication problem though.
And I don't mean about them telling the community about their plans. (There a business. Changes resulting in them staying in business aren't your business and the community doesn't need to feel they have to be privy to everything.)
They just don't put their foot down when explaining themselves to your average forum going whiner.
-
OK, thanks a lot

The only problem is that IMVU saturated the market with Predits in the first place (which was a bad move to begin with). Developers are already hurting due to that. When they implement the tax situation, it'll happen to all credit transactions, not just those with resellers or customers buying from the catalog. If they want to get credits out of the economy, they should stimulate the economy without injecting more credits/pseudo-credits into the system. They could make (worthwhile) bundles without credits added to it as a start.
IMVU's action-without-thinking precedence is not working so well for them.
