Title: Graymuzzle Club (30+)
Post by: John Red Beard on November 01, 2017, 04:10:35 AM
30 is hardly old, but in internet years it's a little long in the tooth, and in furry years it's positively ancient!

So who else on the forum is over 30? What struggles (or joys) of our kind would the young 'uns not understand?

Thirty-three here... and joys/struggles that the younger generation wouldn't understand? Hrm. I'd say the quality (story-wise) and originality of TV shows and Movies nowadays does not feel the same as it did previously.

I am 34.  So this looks like my type of club.  Anyway, the younger generation would not understand patience.  That is why movies today are just quick bang-bang-bang.  There is no build up and suspense anymore or it is just considered boring.

Real Grey muzzle here, 54... young at heart, but grew up in the days before cable tv, home computers, cell phones, etc.. remember 'outside'?

Sounds vaguely familiar.

I didn't realize you were over 30. You have a very youthful energy.

I also remember that movies used to take a LONG time to come out on video after they were in theaters. I'm sure it's partly because I was a kid and time ran more slowly then, but it felt like an eternity.

Well thanks.  I feel young.  But my birth certificate says otherwise.  HeeHee

Apparently I'm old.  Why did no one tell me before?

Remember buying a whole album just to listen to one song only to discover it was the only good song on the whole album?

So much buyer's regret :(

Yes! That was so frustrating! iTunes was a godsend when it launched, because ypu could finally just get the one or two good songs on an album.

Two TV channels.  Then you FINALLY get a third and it specialises in foreign language films and TV :(

Or when you can remember a few words from a song but not how it goes or anything else and you can't just Google it.

That would annoy me for days on end!!

Cathode-Ray Tube Televisions/monitors that were about 10 pounds compared to current LCD/LED TV's that are now less than a third of the weight.

Just went to a flat screen a couple of months ago.. My RCA fat tube HD 40" did it's job for Many, many years... BUT it took two people to get it out of the house when it died!

Not sure if this was just me or not, but being smuggled into a drive-in movie under some blankets beneath the backseat.  Good times! ^_^

Kids got in for free with paying adults. Your parents were just messing with you. (Kidding)

It wouldn't surprise me XD

The drive-in closed when I was still young so I honestly don't know, but I wouldn't put it past my Mum to make something more adventurous like that just for fun!

Remember when bikes having gears was a big deal?  These days every damn bike has gears!  My old BMX only had one gear and if you wanted to go up a steep hill you stood up and worked your legs or got off and pushed XD

Also, metal seat belt buckles too hot to wear just from sitting in the sun.

and bike helmets... really? I remember crashing... I mean riding my bike in nothing but a pair of shorts...

I know right?  The only helmet you ever saw was someone wearing an older siblings motorbike helmet just for fun.

Having said that I still have a scar from a foolish bike accident.  Had been playing in mud and my hair was full of it.  It was pretty long and the feeling of it down my back was delightful so I was riding along with my head back not concentrating and crashed.  Got a crescent shaped mark from my handlebars on the tummy.

Now this is bit before my time, but when I started at my first job, a Government job, the stores room still had branded ash trays made to sit on staff's desks XD

Social media has its dark side, but without it I never would have met all of you.

Am I the only guy that can't really tell the difference?  Like there is Facebook.......and Twitter....which is like Facebook, but you can post less words or something......Then there is Instagram.  Which is like Facebook but for only pictures......even though you can post pictures on Facebook.  And then there are a ton more that randomly pop up.  haha

I remember the old social media, I had started out with MySpace when it was first getting mentioned, before Facebook killed it

The annoying dial up internet
when at home had to be phone or internet, if family member wanted to use the phone I had to log out  X3
it took a few minutes and the annoying dial up sounds

Yes!  The dial up sounds.  When I was young I was obsessed with fake Mortal Kombat pictures for some reason and would go to the library and print them out.  The good old days.

The dialup sounds were annoying, and sometimes it would fail to log on, but every time it successfully connected, I felt like a hacker. lol

Damn, I spent a lot of time in trees, but I'm proud to say my girlcub (now 13) still loves herself some tree time.  So maybe there is some hope for the future ;)

Another thing I remember lots from past, don’t think they are made anymore

One is VHS tapes, recording with VCR

Today I know with cell phones we can have hundreds of songs, past I had to buy lots of CDs (like Albie mention, just for 1 or 2 songs) I had to use Audio Cassettes to mix favorites into single place, couldn’t change order once recorded on it

Oh crud... messing with 8-track tapes... they would start binding up after being played a lot..   Oh, the humanity!!!

Mix tapes!!  Nice one Jyotis.

I don't know if this is just where I grew up but I remember when curry meant basically a stew made with Keen's curry powder.  For some reason swede and sultanas were often involved O.o

Now if I have less than four different curry pastes in the pantry things are getting desperate XD

Mix tapes were awesome.  I remember making my own cassette tapes from songs on the radio and it was the worst quality ever.  haha

When I got my first CD burner and made my first mix CD it was a revelation! Lol

I remember using Windows 3.1 after DOS.  It blew my young mind.  I also hated Windows 95.  The Start button was just so confusing to me for some reason.

Windows 3.11 was the last version I liked.  Good ol' Windows for Workgroups!

Of course I'd hate it now, but still...
