I've been very interested in the furry fandom for a very long time now. I love the art and I usually rotate towards furry media. I would love to go to cons and possibly dabble in getting a fursuit, but I'm in the closet irl. My friends are very anti-furry and I feel like my interest in the fandom is something I have to hide. I feel like my SO would understand and I feel he may already know (he always picks on my for favorite shows/movies with "talking animals"), but I'm still so shy about it. I would be nice to maybe get some friends here and feel less alone.

Welcome to the Forums, Bam! ^_^ I'm sure you shouldn't have a issue making some friends here, you will find the community here to be rather friendly and welcoming. If you have any questions feel free to ask about or the staff, don't worry they don't bite : P
Cheers and seeyou about :)

Welcome to these forums, Bam :)
So, what are some of you hobbies then?
You like to watch certain shows/series? Name a few? :3
As for your SO, I personally think and feel that friends -and especially your partner- should be people you can be open towards to. Especially your partner about the furry fandom.
So I hope you two can talk about it some time and maybe even share some interests like those series/shows you watch ;D

My absolute favorite thing is Transformers. Particularly the IDW's MTMTE/LL. That's easily my #1 fandom. Everything else kind of varies. The only TV shows I keep up with right now are Rick and Morty, Game of Thrones, Westworld, and Steven Universe. My favorite movies are District 9, Pacific Rim, Wolf Children, Boy and the Beast, and pretty much any Disney or animated film. I play games here and there. Love Pokemon.
I honestly just don't know how to bring it up to anyone. Like I said, everyone I know is pretty anti-furry. My SO isn't really hateful about it, but my friends are.

Hah, good titles you mention :P
And are there any movies or shows you're looking forward to that aren't out yet?
Well, if you're for sure with your friends they are against that, maybe it's best to let that be.
Although I have heard from a lot of people who say their friends or family hate furries, but turns out they actually don't even know such a fandom exists or what's it even about XD
I brought it up with a friend of mine who I've known for nearly half my life, because I figured he should at least know, and I know he's an easy-going type of person when it comes to talking about all kinds of things. And would ya know it, he too is a furry! So since then we actually have been going to conventions and events together :P
But then I knew that he never hate me, even if he would hate or dislike a fandom or thing that I like.
As for your SO, I'd suggest to bring up the topic maybe when watching such a show together, or when they suggest another thing for you to watch. Talk to each other face-to-face, make it clear to them beforehand you'd like to let them know a thing, but you're unsure how to bring it. That it's not changing you or the relationship between you two, but that you'd like your SO to know more about you, about your interests, etc.
Maybe something like that might help.
Even if it might not be their thing, you should be able to allow each other in a relationship to like different things.

I have a hard time keeping up with movies. I'd say the only film I'm really hyped for is The Lion King remake. As for shows, all I can think of at the moment are the next seasons of Bojack Horseman and AHS this fall.
Yeah, I think I'm a lot more fearful than I should be. I was reading the advice thread on here and I think I'm just going to be causal about it. It's not something I'm ashamed of, so I shouldn't continue acting like it's something to hide. Especially if I want to go to cons and if I decide to suit. I know my friends won't hate me and I need to stop being afraid.

Cool! ^^
Pff, well, I mean. I suppose most people are more afraid than they should be (at least, that's been my experience). In the end, though, you know your friends best. How friendly and open they are, etc.
If you do tell them and/or your SO, indeed, I'd also suggest casually. Make no big deal out of it and it should go fine!
If they don't understand or are confused, that's possible and fine. You're still the same person as before :P
