Title: Advice: DIY Home Stuff
Post by: Ventus Fall on June 25, 2017, 08:19:46 PM
You might be thinking about moving out, you might already be in the process of moving out, or have moved out already, but you are trying to find ideas what to do with your place.

As I am in the process of moving out myself right now and have experienced moving many times before, I figured to set up this advice thread to combine small and large projects in one place. Ranging from bedroom to kitchen ideas. Bathroom and garden ideas, etc.
Some ideas I might implement myself, other things might be fun or interesting to implement but not necessary for me.
A few factors I personally want to keep in the back of my mind when choosing an idea:
1) It needs to be able to be made rather quickly, but firm.
2) If possible, to implement storage places. Afterall, you can never have enough places to store your things ;D

I'm always trying to get/build the cheapest thing for the best quality and in the quickest way possible. Usually this includes a lot of planning and DIY-stuff.
Also keep in mind, you can always keep on going, but try to set goals and finish each goal before starting on a new one. A lot of "self-builders" tend to take on a large project and/or a lot of smaller projects and get overwhelmed by it. The consequence is often that everything comes to a standstill. If you're together with someone else, it is very likely this will affect the relationship. I mean, who wants to stay in an unfinished house, maybe without a bathroom or a decent bedroom?
Retorical question, of course :P But believe it or not a lot of people do not seem to realise the heavy weight of potential consequences of such actions, so I want to give this as some advice as well.

In a few cases you might come across that you cannot smply start with your project, because you need to do something else first. This, of course, can be extremely frustrating and might slow you down.
Don't give up, though!
One project at a time, finish the thing first preventing you from getting to your original project idea, then get to your own project.

That about sums up this introduction for this thread ^^
Here are some ideas~
Enjoy!

So I have a room which I can make a dining-living room, there is this corner where I can set up my 'cinema', where I want to place my consoles and play movies and such.
I want to be able to sleep there, falling asleep after watching a movie, but I don't want to fall asleep on a couch or something where my friends also sit on. I don't like the idea of that. I see the bed as something personal and 'clean'.

So how to fix this?

My idea:
To have a bed hide as a wall while also functioning as a place to put a few things on, giving the 'backsupport' for the couch underneath. The couch will also be supporting the bed when it's down, you can have storage areas underneath the couch as well.
Here is an image as an example:

That is one idea for now, I also have a few ideas for insulation (warmth and noise), what to do with cracks in walls and more :)

See you next time!
