Title: [TECHNICAL] Remove red suggestion text of 21 days + Keeping topics open longer
Post by: Ventus Fall on March 11, 2017, 07:52:47 PM
I'm thinking if certain boards can have more of a delayed time when they close than what some currently have. Some boards close/lock topics automatically after anyone hasn't responded for a while, leaving a board to sometimes show sometimes nearly only locked topics.

I think it also might have to do with perhaps newer members thinking they may not reply to a topic in certain situations even though it's still open. For example quite a lot of topics -as soon as you click Reply- state in red text to suggest to create a new topic when it's been over 21 days since the last reply.
My second suggestion therefor is when a topic is still open to remove that suggestion, as TFF rules state to please not make duplicate topics when they're still open.

I'd be ok with just removing the prompt altogether. I'm not sure how many times it actually stops someone from necroing a thread, and I believe we have automatic thread locks in place for boards where threads shouldn't be necro'd (so after a certain amount of time the thread gets locked)

So I'd be in favour of just removing it entirely

I'm game for it being removed, though it does serve a purpose (letting someone know it's been inactive for a long time), but otherwise it would be just troublesome.

I've also been seeing a lot of duplicate topics pop up due to the inactivity closing, which means a lot of the time, people still would have posted in said threads were they not inactivity-locked. (I'm all for keeping threads that derailed/escalated disastrously locked, of course)

@Anoni: I know when I was really new and I saw that I was like: "Uhm... what should I do with this? I mean it's still open and a thread is only dead when locked... But red words... Like it's warning me to not post ;-; "
I was so confused xD

@Anoni and Vosur: Maybe it is best to have it removed, or if it serves some purpose to write a different piece of text, although I wouldn't know what.
Sometimes a thread is successfully 'kept alive' when someone would post in a thread that no one has posted in for 21 days (or more) and then it doesn't seem to happen anymore.

@George: Yup, that's indeed what I'm referring to :)

I think certain boards can have use of a longer period of threads staying unlocked. For example the TV and Video board with sub boards.

This has now been disabled, no warning will be shown.
