Title: Great experience with my new phone so far!
Post by: N.y.r.o on December 30, 2016, 08:55:58 PM

So I FINALLY got a new phone for Christmas with a number and everything. But so far I've been having the "Johnny's Pizzeria" experience with it (probably no one will get that reference). At first I got a random text from someone that just said "ur dip" and then they tried phoning later so I blocked the number. Then after that, I got two weird pocket dials from some random older woman with a chain smoker lady voice wh. I just ignored that and deleted the messages.

The next day I had work for four hours and when I got off my shift I noticed I had new voice mail. I was hoping it was just my mom but then the voice was like "you have 11 new messages!" and I was like "WTF." Of course, every single message was from the same lady that pocket dialed me the day before! Except this time they were angry messages about how I wasn't answering my phone. All I could really make out from it was that and "**censor** your brains out". The last message I listened to before I just deleted the rest without listening was when she referred to herself as "your wife" and I figured they were meant for her husband. So after that I phoned her back and told her she had the wrong number, and she just said "oh yes I have" and hung up.

I thought she was done with bugging me until I found I had a new voice message this morning. It was AGAIN THE SAME LADY. She left two actually (one soon after the first) and both were like "I know this is you Henry!" I deleted them but since then she had left more which I have just ignored in case I need proof for the police or something because this is becoming harassment. My mom tried phoning the number but some totally different lady answered?? Like she had nothing to do with it so I don't know what happened there, the number was from the phone thing online (I deleted it off my phone stupidly) so either the online thing was screwed up or numbers got changed somewhere (this other lady did say she got a new phone). Also, at first I didn't have an actual answering machine (I just left it blank) but last night I changed it so it says "Hi, you have reached (my name)". Also these new voice mails she didn't even phone, she just went straight to my voice mail. Like okay.

Oh that sounds terrible!
I've had crap like that happen and its sooooo annoying.
Hopefully you can get it all sorted out because those kind of random calls are the worst!

Never pick up random calls. Ever.
For various reasons.
First the obvious one: You could be paying (or whoever's paying your phone bills) for receiving calls from these blokes, or for calling them.
That, and you don't know who they are. There are scams when a random number is calling your phone. Either you see the number and don't recognise it, or it's shown as unknown. When you try to pick up, it could be they just hang up. The calls can be made from anywhere (even a satellite phone) and they can actually make you pay a lot of money for that joke, which the scammers eventually receive. (Complicated process to explain, but the main point is: Don't pick up random numbers.)

It could be the new phone you got either has an older re-used phone number, or someone has been selling your contact information through to companies, other third parties etc. (If you have a new or old phone number, this could happen.)

You should just be able to block the numbers. I would go ahead and do so. Keep the numbers, just in case, but make sure you can't accidentally call them or whatever.

Yeah, I did block the first one, because a text like "ur dip" doesn't even make sense. Though both numbers that showed up were local numbers, like in the town I live in. I know the second number isn't a scammer, it's just some drunk lady trying to get ahold of her husband and leaving me five hundred nasty messages in my voice mail and it's getting annoying as hell.

You could file a complaint at the police station, but... eitherway just block her number as well.
