Title: Computer Issue
Post by: Rocco Rex on November 27, 2016, 05:14:51 PM
My mom's computer is an HP running Windows 8.1 (prety sure 8.1). Firefox will launch, but won't go to any websites. Same thing with Internet Explorer. Google Chrome won't launch at all. This happened previously with another HP running Windows 10.
Can anyone help me try to get my mom's computer working again?

Is it only the browsers?
And just checking to make sure: Have you run a scan? (-> Virus scan, and if so, which program do you use for that?)

The only issue so far is with the browsers.
A virus scan was the first thing I did. Nothing detected. It uses Norton.
Also, trying to think of anything leading up to it, for a few days YouTube had been acting up. You would tell the video to play and it would take a few seconds for it to start playing.

First one just remove norton and install kaspersky, that antivirus you use is the worst thing you can put on your pc.
About the problem you have, first off all check the wifi drivers and see if they're good. If that's not the case reinstalll your browsers and test again or use cmd and ping for google (write ping google.com on console).
On last case you should backup the important files and install a fresh windows copy.

I finally got around to trying your advice Saph (can't ditch Norton though :/ ) and it worked! Thanks a bunch. Make note to self, don't procrastinate
