Title: Seras cosplay, first version done! - Critique appreciated! <3
Post by: Nori on October 24, 2016, 10:27:28 AM
Hey guys!!! I hope this is okay since its both a fursuit AND cosplay thread, but I was hopping people could nitpick at a cosplay I'm working on. I've posted to a few groups on facebook but have only gotten reactions, hardly any replies.
She's Seras Victoria from Hellsing (OVA series) and I'm almost done with her, just need to dye the socks, cut the bangs a bit shorter on the wig, and make the arm (I'm going to use a mix of black craft foam, led lights, and thin black fabric that folds over so it changed which lights are visible, and a thin red/black tango fabric for the outside). I'll take pictures in better lighting and post them in a comment when I get around to it.

Here's her on me, you can't see my contacts or fangs though :/

Hanging up, you can see the different colors of bias tape better. (I'm going to use elmers glue to make the fabric on the torn sleeve stand upright)

Main reference, a few things changed between the concept art and the show, but its pretty much the same.

The variant I'm cosplaying as

I appreciate any criticism! Haven't made a normal costume in almost 3 years, so I'm a bit rusty :P

Omg, omg, omg!
FIRST REPLY AND AWESOME COSPLAY!

*calms down*

So jealous of you right now XD I've been meaning to do a Hellsing (Ultimate) cosplay for a few years now. this looks amazing!

Some tips for the cosplay then!

  1) The large red socks need to have holes in them. Your last picture shows what I'm referring to ^^ At least at the top part needs to have holes. (When making the holes, be careful.)
  2) I know it could be hard to find proper shoes/boots for certain cosplays, but I want to point this one out as well (considering I'm allowed to nitpick :P). Seras just has boots, no laces or such. The shoes you have on in the first picture seems to me like heavy hiking shoes, rather than boots. (Does that make sense?)
  3) If you can, move the patch down. The patch on the uniform -oddly enough- seems to cover the pocket opening, so it's a useless chest-pocket.

Hope this helps a bit, and hope my tips weren't too harsh ;3;

Thanks a lot <3 Actually Vampyrum has an Alucard cosplay, and might be working on a Vlad variation at some point if we go to Anime Expo together :)
SO
1) Yeah, I'll be seeing how it looks after I dye it (see if it degrades the fabric at all) But I do plan to cut le holes out. I actually am using two layers of socks, so I'll have to be careful to line them up right :P
2 ) I might make boot covers for my hiking boots (oh ye, they're my hiking boots :P Utah desert dirt on them right now lol) But I like how the shape is for them, but if I do find some boots that would look good I'll go with those. I'm just nervous about how to attach the covers so I'm not worrying about that -just-  yet <3
3) I already ironed it on ;-; But since I have the button there I didn't want it to be too far down, but yeah, I could have moved it down further. The pic of me wearing it it was just velroed down, but I did move it down a bit further when I ironed it. (In the pic on me in it, where the patch slants into the bottom corner the top of the pocket lines up in the middle, while the ironed on bit the pocket lines up with the corner where it starts to slant inwards) If and when this one falls apart I'll be adjusting a few things, like not putting the pocket buttons on until after :P
And the show can't make up its mind where the patch is. Another image I used as reference has it where it is on the concept art. lol
..it also cant make up its mind on where seams are. XD

Thanks again!!!

No problem :3

1) In that case, maybe you could then show the parts of the holes onto your underlaying socks? Or something like so, at least.

2) Sounds like a good plan! Perhaps by that time we can both think of something xD

3) I was thinking about that issue, but maybe if you do another cosplay you can sow it on beforehand if you ask for advice and tips, before ironing it on ;3 Then you can always change/shift the position a bit if need be.

Yeah, I figured the design would be a bit all over the place in the show XD

The cosplay is excellent! I wanted to point out the socks thing but Ventus did that for me (thanks).
I would love to see the finale version.

Hey guys! It's been what, over a month? O_o
I've been busy working on a fursuit commission (if anyone cares to see, its over here, Vampyrums' Calun <3 https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.383359165386995.1073741843.100011387452349&type=1&l=7447685ad8 (https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.383359165386995.1073741843.100011387452349&type=1&l=7447685ad8))
and just a bunch of stuff happening all the time, but figured I'd post an update on where I'm at <3

I worked out a design I like for the arm, and used 16-guage wire as a frame, surrounded with black craft foam. It's 2-d right now, but before I put the fabric over I'm going to glue additional swirly pieces, so even if it looks 2-d from either side, when the fabric is pulled over it'll go around and make a few different shapes. Also found red led fairy lights at Wal-Mart for Christmas, so I bought out the stores' supply. XD
I think I might cut the wire going around my arm and just have the craft foam around my arm, since I was planning on attaching with velcro to easily access the battery boxes for the lights anyway.

I dyed/cut the socks, and I'm really happy how close the color turned out :D It was that bright red before, but its pretty close to the uniform fabric now!

And almost done styling the wig, I thinned out the bangs a bit, just need to shave it so its not so choppy :)

*ahem* yes, it WOULD be cool if you had an Alucard. Wouldn't it, NORI.

Almost like you mentioned how we were a duo and I was the Alucard/Vlad in the original post.

*noms ear* We gotta do facetime or something at cons tho. That'd be fun!

Yeee. Integra sent us on different missions I guess. AX is gonna be SO fun when we get to run Alu and Seras together though. Especially with our height difference. ;)

>< It's okie dokie. I actually have a few Alucard cosplays from the last handful of years. Normal, Rio De Janeiro Alucard, a "bloody" Alucard (like when he goes to town with his bare hands).

I'm working on true-form Vlad Alucard, and Nori's helpin' me along with it. :) Which will be a BIG help. Since she's doing Blood Seras, Vlad will be a perfect match. The fact that it's been a dream cosplay of mine is just a big bonus!

But really, no matter how we do it, that Shadow Arm of hers is going to be the big highlight. It's looking really awesome already, and when she gets the rest of it installed and covered? Duuuuuude.

Yeah, stuff on arms is hard. 2 Months ago I helped make a robot arm for a friend for a cyber punk cosplay, I would have also made myself one but we didnt have time.

figured I'd post a quick update!
I got all the LED's on the arm and I think I figured out how to keep it in place, and am working on covering it with the sheer fabric. I also asked my hair lady if she could help cut the wig, and she did an amazing job! I'll still use gel and spray to make it spikey and whatnot, but EEEEE
(http://i.imgur.com/nrA8kZp.jpg)

I won't post pictures of the arm until I have it pretty much all covered, because it looks really sad right now. XD
I'll be moving my stuff into my new place on the 4th, and I'll be moving myself around the 18th. I'll try and spend some time working on it, but I'm still working on Vampyrum's suit <3
There's also randomly going to be a possible Hellsing photoshoot at Denver Comic Con. Which I never thought usually happened, considering it's animé and the popularity died down. XD

Heyyyyyy I haven't posted in monthssssss

But I have gotten some progress done! I've been busy with Calun's suit and moving/job hunting, but I figured I'd do an update <3

I finalized the LED's and started adding fabric over top. I'll be putting another layer of black sheer costume fabric over the red.  Calun is helping me with how to attach the arm, he has a shoulderguard with a few straps wrapping around the arm and the body, which I'll probably be trying to do. It still looks nasty, and I'm worried it'll look very ragged and unclean after I finish with puttign the fabric on :(

I also got some thicker cotton socks (Thanks to Calun for finding them XD) And they're the right color to begin with, so I'll be going straight to cutting them once I get the arm done.

I've been working on styling the wig too, but I may have to get some spray for it, the gel I have doesn't work too well.

Pictures attached! I also took video of the fading effect with the LED's, in different lighting

HUZZAH FOR LACK OF UPDATES

I'm cramming trying to get it done now, since con is 3 days away, my dragon suit took me longer than I expected :(

SO
I got the socks cut,
(http://i.imgur.com/vphPfzv.jpg)

Added the little neckpiece emblem thingy
(http://i.imgur.com/kBtlMmC.jpg)

re-did the arm a bit with attachments, and a friend came over and helped me make the foam base look nicer (I'm going to work out another version with EVA foam, and different styles for lights and whatnot for NDK if I can)

and cut out the leather for my magazine-not-magazine belt pouches (using them to hold money, my phone and some photography cards).

And made a cosplay Nori badge because I thought it'd look cute :P
(http://i.imgur.com/XKrRdDB.jpg)

I'll be working hard after work today to get the pouches done and putting the lights back on.

And dergon suit because I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, but THIS IS THE REASON WHY IVE BEEN SO SLOWWW

kept on trying to kill a string of lights hanging down. lol

So anywho, wig looks dumb, I think I messed it up, and I don't think I'll put fabric over the arm since I'll be making a new one.
And I derped and forgot to get the belt, but I'm working on fixing mai gloves so :c

I don't know this charactar which means I don't have  a certain bias.
But it seems that the hair looks too nice, the charactar has in some way quite chaotic way whilst the hair you have is too nice, it's too tidy.

For the rest: you do use an interesting technique for making the costume, techniques I might use in model railroading

Heya!!! Yeah, I'm going to commission someone to fix up the wig for me, I did what I could, but it is far from my strong suit. I have a few people in mind, but I'll see their turnaround for after comic con.

Thanks Shoon! And just battery packs on the outside of the arm, my next one I'm going to use button batteries, they're much lighter and smaller XD
And some pictures from Comic Con, ble. This was Saturday, and it was madness, my brother and I were so tired XD

Thank you guys ;-;
I got some great suggestions for my second arm, so hopefully for the local anime con (Nan Desu Kan, first weekend in September) I'll have my new one done by then. I'll try to keep this thread updated.
I'm also considering making maybe the blue uniform one from the tv series as an off-cosplay for NDK, I really want to take pictures and video, but it was such a challenge with that arm. And then I can sew in some reactive thread or the spray on stuff onto my gloves so I can use my phone or my camera touch screen stuff if I wanted to.
That's still up in the air, I'm talking to Calun about it during his breaks at Anime Expo. The second arm is definitely going forward, just the second less heavy/stressful uniform is up in the air.
