Here's my first fursuit in progress. Since I'm only 13, I'm not experienced at all with making a fursuit and might need advice so for the people who know how to fursuit, please help! :D
The attached photo is my current foam base.I'm using 1 inch upholstery foam, no balaclava, and hot glue just fyi.I'm making ears right now.
Before you ask
'BUT YOU'RE ONLY 13!!!'
I have reasons xD
I happen to have all the materials needed since my grandpa used to be a carpenter and has a lotta stuff he doesn't use anymore and the fabric store's fur was on discount.
Also, the reason why I'm asking you guys is because my parents aren't helping lmao they're too busy
Can someone please tell me how to embed pictures in the post instead of just attaching something too?
B) Thanks ~

I don't have much time to respond, buuuuuuut:
Very neat foam base ^^
I'll be sure to check it out more thoroughly later and see better with what I can advise on or the like o3o
As for embedding images into your posts, you do the following:
1) Upload your picture anywhere (any website, like deviantart (could be Stash) or wherever).
2) Copy the image address.
3) In your post, use the following code:
[img]Put your image link here[/img]
4) And you're done :D
So, example:
This is the link to the image I'll be using in this example: http://www.clker.com/cliparts/Q/0/a/r/h/S/paw-print-th.png (http://www.clker.com/cliparts/Q/0/a/r/h/S/paw-print-th.png)
And this is when I use the img tags:

No problem ^^
I assume you're making a canine base? Of your fursona?

Yep, its a canine base.
-
Cool :)
In that case... well, one thing that struck me (personally) is how long the muzzle is. I'm not sure what specific type of canine head build you're going for, but I think -if possible- that the muzzle is shortened just a little bit, if that helps? ^^
-
Hm.. yeah, it does seem a little long.
Do you think it's okay to cut through dry glue?
I'm a bit scared I might mess up the muzzle.
-
It looks very cleanly cut, nice job! I agree with Ventus, shorten the muzzle at the base. I had no problems cutting through hot glue and foam, I used a mix of a knife and scissors :)
Something that can help is to put a picture of your reference over your head (have your reference be transparent) and resize the images so they match the best you can (lining up the eyes is a good reference point) And see how much you need to cut off of the muzzle. Just make sure you hold down ctrl or a key that keeps the image the same height/width ratio :)
-
I did the ears!
As for the muzzle, I think the perspective that I took the first photo was a bit tilted so it made the muzzle appeared larger. Here it is now:

If you guys think the muzzle is still too long ill hack some off xD
-
So cute!!!
I did some redlines for you, sorry they're crude, I drew with my mouse. XD I'm assuming you're doing the same species as your avi? :P
I think shortening the muzzle will be a good idea, not by much though!

Omg its so off xD
Gonna shorten the muzzle then
TYsMMMM

How about now?
I've cut off a little from the muzzle, and I guess it's close enough

Yass <3 Tyyy
Went outside today to buy foamies and some duct tape, making a set of follow me eyes, any tips?
I'm using cloth mesh and it's working so dont ask about buckram xD
-
I haven't made any myself, but https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmKryPPBKiA (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmKryPPBKiA) seems like a good tutorial. I don't use buckram either, I used a plastic coated mesh that I doubled over :P Buckram seems too thick, compared to other materials that look the same but are easier to see out of :P
-
Ooh I've seen that tutorial before
I've just finished my eyes, they came out good but are a bit transparent but not too noticable:D
It's a little hard to see out of cos of my bad vision and limited view so it's a bit blurry but overrall it's fine
Hopefully I'm going to go to the store on Monday to get fur and start, well, furring ;D
Do you put the eyes in after furring?
and do i line the inside of the mouth after or before furring?
-
It's up to you, I think follow me eyes would be less messy if you put them in after furring, then to the lashes and whatnot. The lining I did a mix, I lined the inside before I furred, then after furring/shaving I added the gums.
-
Ah okay XD

Just finished all the duct taping and just cut them out...
Ready to start furring!
Going to go to the store to buy some fur tomorrow since the store only opens on weekdays ;-;
Also how do I make a neck?
-
Necks are a pain. XD
This is what I used, only I just used the two main colors and made a wider shape. I suggest making the neck after you have your head completely done, and make sure to leave a bit of extra fur hanging over the edge of the bottom of the head to attach the neck.

Oh, god, doing necks seem like a pain D:
I've finished cutting all the duct tape off my foam head into pieces and I'm ready to fur.
I missed my train today and they closed when I got there :(
Going to go tomorrow then :D excited af
Do you sow the pieces of fur together into one 'cover' to cover the head as much as possible or do you just glue it directly on?
I would glue it directly on but I'm worried that the edges might not come out smoothly.

p.s.S.
I'm not going to use a wig, turns out that the one my local store sells is plain crap and off colour :(
I'm going to comb out yarn. I've done it before, its actually pretty good.
Something like this.

Plus, I have quite a lot of blue yarn from my previous attempts at knitting.
Sad lief.
-
Nice! I haven't tried yarn, but it looks like it could work :)
Most people and stitch the pieces together and glue the cover down around the nose, eyes and any curves. It makes it look a lot nicer. I keep messing up my stitch so I've just glued them down, it does make it a lot rougher along the edges of your designs.
And as for your eyebrow thing, I put mine on along where the brow bump was, and marked it along with my other pattern pieces. If you don't want to have brows then you don't need to worry about it! I know some people also make brows out of felt or something, I've only used fur though.
My realistic bat suit didn't have eyebrows, but it does add a lot of expression, especially with toony heads :)

Yass <3
Furringgggggggg.

Thats looking great so far just don't forget to shave it down ^_^
-
Finally got it done xD
Still gotta go buy a wig though, because combing yarn didn't work :(
My handpaws are so warm in the winter here :DDDDDD
My cat also keeps playing with my tail XD
I didn't do paw pads or claws though because I thought they would be too annoying. I might plan to make another set of handpaws with claws and paw pads though. I think it looks alright at the moment.
