Title: Tips for a website?
Post by: Nori on June 12, 2016, 01:34:35 AM
Hey again!
I'm putting together a gallery of sorts using Wix, and this is what I have so far (it's pretty messy with organization right now, but eh.) http://leslax.wix.com/portfolio (http://leslax.wix.com/portfolio)
Does anyone have any pointers? I either wanted to use wix or wordpress, does anyone prefer one over the other? I'm done with trying to get Dreamweaver to work, so I'm leaning towards online services now XD

Hey :D

It's awesome you're making your own thing, very cool.
A shame to hear Dreamweaver didn't work out for you.

Wordpress is the only thing of those two I've used. And my experiences with said service was good. Frankly, I think it doesn't matter which online service you use, as long as you feel comfortable with the one you're using and it's working well.

Hey again! Yeah, The person who runs the host has been working with me for the past two weeks trying to figure out why Dreamweaver shows me a different code for pictures and buttons.... and when I preview it looks like a mess (mixes of code and demon pictures :P), when he looks at it from his preview it looks fine, and when I looks at it after it goes through the server there aren't any. XD And since Dreamweaver makes static webpages, a blog-like page would be a pain, since I'd have to move each 'post' down when I want to add another, and when that page gets too long, I'd have to do that twice for the 'next page' and what not soooooooooo just decided to not.

I might dabble into wordpress now that I have an idea of how online services work and see which one I like better, thanks!!

Pff, says you :P
I code and have a website online, made for someone else. Once I get all things done I currently have to do, I can start focussing on making my own website ^^

Thanks you :3
Oh, and I overlooked one of your two questions.
With pointers, do you mean any critique on the website, by chance? Helpful commentary, stuff like that?

A tip from a web developer:

If you don't have much web skills just try to use free cms , check this list: https://www.cmscritic.com/minimalist-blogging-platforms/ (https://www.cmscritic.com/minimalist-blogging-platforms/)

Or else try to learn html5 + css3 and build a original website or use a free template with some tweaks (you can get tons of that just searching on google).

Ok, so, this is just a quick opinion/feedback I have for you. I'll try to see if I can look better at it at a later date so I can give some proper critique x3
Every page looked different, like it had a slightly different set-up with organising pictures. While I can understand if the background would change, there is a lot of colours going on and seems a bit cluttered. My favourite tab is the Photography one at the moment.
Soothing, non-distracting background (only two colours in the background), and the photographs have just enough of space in between, making it seem organised and designer-y at the same time.

Does this all make sense? x3

I added  a few pages and layouts, changed the url, and I'm working on making a background right now :)  http://kayleenskloset.wix.com/home (http://kayleenskloset.wix.com/home)
I can't decide if I want the background for the blog page to be the bg for the other pages, or keep the gradient for the others. T_T
I'm going to change the homepage, but its being funky right now XD

Soooo I went in a different direction. XD http://sironafurcreations.webs.com/ (http://sironafurcreations.webs.com/)
I'll be doing the premium thing for it, but for right now, here it is :) The page with the long name is a dump of hat I need to put in different pages, and I'll be adding more pictures eventually. I'm working on a logo with the name incorporated in it.
The kayleens kloset thing is just a personal site now.

That site looks a lot better on the eyes, but also the lay-out seems a lot better too ^_^
I do want to add something else though, I don't know if anyone else has this problem; The website loads slowly for me, and when I click to go to one of the other pages it is just as slow.

Thank you! And it did that to me the first time it loaded, but it was quick after going back to it again. The background image is a large file size, I might make it smaller and see if that helps at all.

So for some reason it got flagged for a copyright notice... even though I took all of my pictures outside my front yard... XD
The only thing would be the lineart, but I'm following what the poster said was allowed for their lineart to be used with, so... I dunno. lol

Wait, what? XD
You got a copyright notice on your website for your own stuff?
If anything, it should mention clearly what it is they flagged. If not, send a message/ e-mail to the 'holder'/'boss' of the website service (or whoever it is you need to go to) and state clearly all images used are made by yourself, all artwork that you haven't used you got written permission from by the artist. You can include the permission in the message, or state you can send it over by request.

Deal with this swiftly and as soon as possible if you can x3

lol yeah, we only had 25 words to use for their 'site frozen' help, so I just said 'I didn't get a notification on what exactly was against your ToS, the only way I knew was because someone saw the error message.' XD They said to allow up to 3 days for a responce, if I don't get one after Wednesday I'll e-mail them.
And all the artwork I drew myself, so.... yeah. XD  I changed the lineart to a deer I drew the night before it went down. The only thing I got online was the black fur background, which was in a package of 'simple website backgrounds' off deviantart, the photographer saying use these in any application. So... I dunno. XD

@Nori:
Good to hear! ^^
And cool o:

@YourUnknownHost:
You need to find a hosting server (I host websites myself on a server), and you can upload your files to the hosting service. You also need to buy a domain. But if you use a free template website kind of thing like many do, then that is also a possibility ^^

I used Dreamweaver before it was being too difficult, then switched to online hosting :)
