I'm assuming this is the right place??
------------
Furries. What are they?
Weird people in animal suits? Time wasters? Socially Insane? (And a few other things but let's keep it PG).
We have been called these names LONG ENOUGH.
Its about time us furries find a way to communicate in public without showing ourselves to bystanders.
We have the PhiPaw as a symbol, that's a start! I just feel we could do better.
How about a few gestures? or some kind of 'Furry Code'?
Or simple rules we have to follow to make ourselves better in public.
Its time to start! Let's improve furries, and start a new beginning for ourselves. Then maybe, the world will respect us, Just a little more.
Step 1, simple rules.
We need rules that we all know. I have a few ideas.
-Be kind to any/everyfur
We need more than this however, and feel free to edit/remove things from this list.
If we are going to make a positive impact, we need to respect the person may be trying to live their life, therefore being respectful.
Identification
We NEED this. How about a public gesture?
such as, pawing the air with your hand?
A simple stance?
Something to Identify each other.
-A four-fingered high-five while standing on your toes. (Animal Stance)
-A symbol (We have the PhiPaw already)
Let's improve ourselves, then!
(This is not ment to mock/change completely/make fun of/remove furries in any way. It's simply a way to better identify ourselves as who we are to eachother, and have fun doing it.)

I am behind the idea, but I think that this is a bit of a messy place to lay these out. Forums tend to not be very organized, so maybe like a google doc that anyone can edit, or something like that would be helpful for this.
Now onto some ideas. Maybe we could have a sort of oath for those willing to take it. There is one thing I am against that you proposed, and that is that we should be secretive about this. Sure having gestures would be kind of nice, but I think we should be transparent about any rules we set for ourselves.
Now, I have rule suggestions.
-Do not try to extract data from people when they do not want to give said data.
-You should give basic respect and courtesy to any/every fur even if you don't like them.

I put it here for other furries opinions, because bystanders wouldn't care or give any ideas ore than likely.
Thanks for the feedback, I can remove secrecy.

First impressions are lasting impressions. Like usually the stereotypes mentioned are partly true. We all know about the dark side of the fandom and that said dark side is pretty big. Other than that, it's generalization that needs to be removed - no matter how much truth the stereotypes hold it never counts for 100% of the people in it.
Not everyone in the fandom knows about the phipaw thingy and not everyone in the fandom likes to hug random strangers. If you start a code, there'll always be someone who isn't comfortable with it or doesn't understand it.
Alright, that's completely fine. I' understand that. Thanks for the feedback.

We also need a way to advertise whatever we do. (I have a couple fur friends and they don't like going on forums unfortunately.) We might need to spam a little and hit each forum to try to gain popularity with the idea. ( Probably why the PhiPaw symbol didn't do so well) Then eventually it might jump up the popularity line and hit even the furry radios or something.
In any case how about a handshake of some sort. (Like four finger handshake on your tippie toes (Represents paws)) (Excluding your thumb.) And you can only do this if your with one person. (So if you're in a group non-furries won't realize). The way to initiate it is is a code like: Do you shake four?
Or
Do something along these lines
(http://www.gifmania.co.uk/Fantasy-Animated-Gifs/Animated-Magic/Luck/Maneki-Neko-87917.gif)
Put your first up and just bring it down once. (Or do it again later)

I think we should have some kind of necklace/bracelet as a form of identification.
-
I like Exo's idea for a motion. Some people might not not be in a place where they can afford a necklace or bracelet. I just think that motion is a bit too obvious? It's not something I would do for fear of being questioned about it. I really like the Idea of a symbol because even if you can't afford something with the symbol, you can draw it on yourself. I really juat think that the phipaw needs a bit more publicity.

Let's keep the PhiPaw.
