Title: Fursuiting Rants
Post by: Ventus Fall on June 06, 2016, 02:00:58 PM
I decided to make this topic, as I don't see it yet, and I was wondering:
What kind of experience you have had with fursuiters or as a fursuiter that you really want to get off your chest?

I've got a few. First I'll start of with my latest experience at Confuzzled. (I've already written them nicely these things and more in a feedback form.)
And the overall experience was very fun and I would like to attend again next time, so hope next time it will go better too.

1) In the main hall the fursuit photo was taken. I did not realise the photography was going to be held there, and I also did not realise where the picture was going to be taken from. I am not the tallest person around (whether I am in my fursuit or not) and chances are extremely likely I am not on any of the pictures, because I was standing behind people who were taller than me (even made moreso taller due to them wearing the fursuit heads). There was no indication where we should stand prior and no communication at all with other regards to the fursuit parade. Which leads me to my second complaint about the fursuit parade.

2) There was no explanation how to 'partake' in the fursuit parade. People were squeezing through the doors to get out once indicated we would start and everyone seemed to be in such a rush. I tried to keep my distance from the people in front of me to make sure I would not step on their tails and bump into them. However, people behind me thought I was too slow and walked past me, pushed me aside or ran past me. My tail was constantly stepped on (it has a built-in skeleton inside of it and I am very relieved people did not break it, to say the least). There was a few times after a while (at least twice) that apparently the distance was so large between me and fursuiters ahead of me that I actually did not know where to go. One time it went well because there was a line of people blocking the other paths, so I only could go in one direction. The second time I was in an (almost) empty hallway and an attendee I had met prior actually saw I was having difficulty and helped me, guiding me outside where the rest was.

- The photoshoot guy at NFC2016 (and noone else there either for that matter) didn't tell me my hair was poking out from under the neck fur of my suit. Which means that most of the pics taken there has my hair showing. Sure, it's noone's job to babysit fursuiters, but a quick "Ohai, your hair is showing" could still have been nice.

- Some friend of a friend of a friend started laughing at how terrible  my suit looked behind my back.
I noticed ofc. He's not too far off with the whole "my suit is terrible"-part, but I'm of the opinion that if you really -have to- insult someone, you should at the very bare least have the *body part(s) of choice here* to do so to their face. Or somewhere where they don't have to listen to it. It really ruined my mood for the rest of that day.

Sorry to hear about that, Cheza D:

I have a few similar experiences when suiting in my wolf suit (luckily my hair is around the same colour scheme as the wolf suit, so it's barely noticeable).
However, it's worse with my dragon suit. The shoulder-back mane part is attached with velcro and... well... sometimes one part comes loose. People take pictures and then no one tells me it's not looking right >_>
<_<
I had a spotter once or twice who didn't really do a good job, hah ^^;  Good friend, but not a good spotter xD

And that whole laughing-behind-one's-back is extremely low. Next time try to confront them directly (especially if it's a friend or friend of a friend). Sorry to hear it ruined your whole day ):
*offers a hug*

OP, the second situation just sounds like bad managment :/ All the parades I've been in, there's been people directing traffic at every turn and around doorways and stuff. I do worry about losing the line sometimes, so I usually group up with people I know and grab onto a tail ;P

Same for the photoshoot; I'm super short so I've started going piggyback on one of my friends during the photo. But in past years you can't see me at all :X

As far as my own rants...one time a kid punched my face because he "knew I wasn't a REAL animal". Luckily my bill cushioned it  XP

Panda, indeed, it wasn't only me who felt there was poor management. People who already partook in such events in the past felt the same way.
That one person who helped me the second time I didn't know where to go, we are keeping in touch. So maybe next time he can spot for me or something if none of my friends can come along :P
Hehe, grabbing onto the tail of someone else, that sounds funny xD Sorry x3

I would try piggy-back riding, but... not in my dragon suit XD (Too dangerous and whatnot :P)

Daaaaarn, sorry to hear about that, Panda. Being punched isn't fun, even if it is cushioned by your bill. Still, glad to hear you seemed to be ok after that.

Something similar I experienced: For my birthday last year I decided to go with all my friends to a park nearby. There were SO MANY KIDS. There was on kid who kept trying to look in my mouth to get confirmation I was indeed a human in a suit. (Well DUH) I kept my mouth closed. Luckily I was taller than the kids, so they couldn't look inside.
"Oh, I see a zipper, I knew it wasn't real."
>_>
<_<
Wow, sorry, but wow.

And then a kid started pulling (pretty hard) on my tail. It was in my wolf suit btw, my vision is a lot better in that suit and it's easier to move around, etc. So much safer. However, if someone pulls my tail, I can't really see that, only feel that. And it was getting worse and worse. Some people I really expected to spot for me (as they said they would), more and more kids were swarming around me, the tail pulling was getting worse. So I decided to make a noise and finally someone paid attention and helped me out.
Still though, letting things get out of hand .___.
I did try to walk away and stuff, but that was impossible, you should have seen how many kids were swarming around XD

Still though, overall I liked the experience, after that person made the kids disperse a bit the whole walk was very fun and calm ^_^
