Title: Furry symbol phipaw?
Post by: Ori on May 29, 2016, 01:54:07 PM
So I discovered we kinda had a furry symbol. [Aside from the paw, the p thing]. I wanted to see how many people recognize it because I was planning to put it on my Pennyboard so I can secretly show that I'm a furry to other furries in college without letting it be known to the average people... [Pfft I sound like some secret agent from a secret society. What's next secret code words?]

I'm assuming you know all about the PhiPaw then.
if you don't then

"The initial suggestion and discussion for this concept occurred in January 2007 on the Yiffstar's forums, on a thread entitled "Some discreet way of telling others we're furry." After a general consensus of using a "symbol" as a way to achieve this, an image combining or juxtaposing the Greek letter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_alphabet) Phi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phi) with a fox (http://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Fox) pawprint (http://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Paw) icon (originally suggested by SalemFuchs [now known as Kirara_Munashi'i (http://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Kirara_Munashi%27i)]) was created and deemed as the most ideal solution. "Phi" (upper case Φ or <math>\Phi</math>; lower case φ, <math>\phi</math> or <math>\varphi</math>) was selected as it represents both the letter "F (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F)" in the modern Greek language ("F"urry,) and the Golden Ratio (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Ratio), which some Yiffstar users perceive is a symbolic metaphor for the equal balance between furries and nature.
As of February 2007, discussions about whether to use this symbol, another symbol or no symbol at all are still ongoing. At the moment, it appears to be approved, however, the general consensus is that the paw-print may be able to reflect a fur's fursona (http://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Fursona), (ie, a wolf (http://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Wolf) furry could have a wolf paw-print, a dragon (http://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Dragon) could have a dragon clawprint (http://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Claw) etc.) and the colour can also change (ie. rainbow paw-prints for LGBT (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT) furs)."

And feel free, I wear mine everywhere, no wonder I randomly get hugged by people! ^u^

Certainly the first I've heard of it today. I'll have to look at more on this.

I went to my first Convention this spring. It was actually a wonderful time and I bought a couple bumperstickers for my car.

Of course I got the PhiPaw and I also got another one that looks like the intel Inside symbol but instead it has a paw and says Furry Inside.
