hello, so i'm really curious, that how did you all find out you were furries? im really interested in hearing everyones stories, only if you want to ofc :P Oh, and a bonus question if you dont mind telling, have you ever opened up to anyone in real life? like family, friends, etc? and can anyone tell me that how sensitive people are around here, becuz im kinda fairly new :D

I had never heard about them before, but for some reason I just went to YouTube and looked for videos on what furries are. I seriously believe that it was God telling me to search it. I watched a video by Majira Strwaberry explaining what they are, and I instantly knew I belonged. I had a special connection with dogs most of my life, so I guess it was just a matter of time.

I stumbled across the art one day and I really liked it. Furries are just people who like anthros, so I considered myself one ever since I found out what they were. I only really got into this last year though, when I made my character and got art of her.
My close friends know, as do my friends and family, but no one ever makes a big deal of it because I never did either. People just found out and didn't think anymore of it. Except for one friend who constantly pokes fun at me for it. Hey, you can't please everyone ^_^

My first girlfriend got me into it. Not sure why I like it, but it just sort of stuck.

I never really 'identified' as a furry, and I still don't to be honest. I see it as an artistic/creative outlet and also a place to meet people with similar interests. I just like anthros X3
As for getting into 'furry' stuff, I started out in elementary school playing neopets, reading redwall, and watching cartoons with animal characters. I started drawing anthros and creating stories with them because I liked how they looked (and I was bad at drawing humans then). Later on when I started using the internet a lot more I learned about the fandom.
Growing up I drew a lot of anthros, but most people who saw them were just like "that's cool/interesting". I guess not many people I went to school with knew about furries, or at least had no negative image of such things. In college I haven't drawn as many anthros, and I haven't heard many people talk about it except for one dude on my bus who was explaining to his friends that he was one ^^'

I would say it was a natural prograssion from childhood having been very much a fan of shows and such that had plenty of antro characters. from there I kinda found it online a long time ago and have been a furry ever since. As for who knows well since there is a fair amount of bad press around the fandom, and I'm somewhat shy in general it takes a while before I warm up to someone enough to let them know. Hell even one of my longtime friends don't know since I've heard him make comments on the fandom before, with that in mind three of my close friends know I'm a furry.

I have always had a love for animals, wolves especially. Watching cartoons like Sonic SatAM, Gargoyles, Thundercats and the like certainly helped, along with games like Sonic the Hedgehog, Ninja Turtles, Star Fox, Shining Force and books like Redwall and Foxes of Firstdark added to my interest in anthropomorphic beings. Before I even knew things like furries existed I had a Fursona, Prince Robert Silvermyst. I'd imagine the adventure he went through, and when I found Furcadia in 96, I began to meet people like me and got into the roleplay aspect of the fandom. Even then I didn't know we were furries, or even heard of the word yet. It wasn't until I started delving into places like VCL and going onto MUCKs that I heard about furries.
So I've been in the fandom for a long time, but only last year began to go to Furcons and furmeets, things I wish I knew about years before. And after finally getting my fursuit head, I can start participating in suiting. Looking at myself in the mirror with my fursuit head on, I finally feel like myself.

I don't quite see it as something you fund out you are, but something you like and just roll with.
Either way I first heard about furries from a furry podcast. I didn't understand the concept to well at first, but a few years later I recalled the experience and looked it up.
Thought it sounded fun and fairly clever and so I made a fursona and joined the forum. It's funny how I thought foxes would be an unpopular choice.

Not sure how it exactly started with me.
I know I been a furry for long, just never found a good forum where I could share it publicly or find others who where also interested in it.
I guess it started with animated cartoons and movies, animals talking and acting similar to people, and back then I was very interested in cats so that's what I can remember.
