Title: Adventures on the Empty Expanse: Grangerford / The Search for Mannarite
Post by: Rayleonarde on December 20, 2015, 09:19:22 AM
Welcome to the walking city of Grangerford, a simple mining city with a population of 130, and a crew of 20+. Height of roughly 400 feet, and a width of about the same. This fine city runs mining operations for rare metals and minerals underground.

((Wish I had a picture for these, just kind of imagine quad-pedal, massive platforms, and large cities complete with parks and such, aside from the tall, square building located near the middle.))

Specifications for the Grangerford walker:

Height: 400ft
Width: 400ft
Crew: 5 engineers, 5 crewmen (excluding Sir Captain Knightly), 5 guards, 5 Air Marines.
((Air Marines are for off-walker assaults, Guards repel boarding parties.))
Population: One-hundred and thirty (130) civilians.
Onboard Armaments: Two 64lb free-mounted under-turrets, four automated flak guns on all four corners, and two 15mm gatling guns on Sir Captain Knightly's observation tower. Guard armaments include basic carbine rifles, and concussive grenades. Air Marines carry full-sized assault weapons, firebombs, and grappling rifles (for climbing up taller walkers).

You'll be joining as either a civilian, crewman, engineer, guard, Air Marine or a Merc. The objective is this: find and refine Mannarite, and eventually find a place to settle the city.  I will be working out the plot as it goes.

(Starting now, sorry it took so long.)

The captain, Sir Knightly, awoke in his home above the control center for the massive walking city known as Grangerford. He smiled, bathed and dressed all within a few minutes, and started down the stairs to the control center. Upon taking his seat, the PA system squelched to life, and Knightly spoke into the microphone.

"Good morning, citizens. It is 7:45, in the morning, on December 26th. Today is the monthly illness inspection, please move to your nearest disease control kiosk. Have a wonderful day."

Ray had been working on the rear hydraulic pump for the rear-right leg, and had fallen asleep dangling from the grapnel-harness set up he used to work on the harder to reach areas of the city.

Tina was awaoken with a start and fell out of bed.
"Ugh...I ate mornin's" she gets dressed and goes to get into her truck to head to head towards disease control clinic. Good thing she was healthy.

The men at the kiosks were taking small blood samples from everyone, and giving them to the doctor. The doc then added several extracts to each sample, checking for various illness. Anyone who tested positive for any easily contagious diseases was quarantined.

Rolling onto xer side, Fengo hissed as his tails flamed to life. "Good grief, do I have to do this?" He breathed softly, trying to go back to sleep. Only for his subconscious to force xim awake; he sat up, bathed and ate something small. Then, ran off to the kiosk, dressed already.

The kiosk workers smiled, and spoke to both Fengo and Tina. "Do you feel ill, either of you?"

((Never too late to join!))

One of the workers draws a small amount of blood from Tina, and handed it to the doctor. "We'll see."

Syn's hulking frame stood in line, patiently waiting for the kiosk to have a space available. Upon stepping forward, she put forth her muscled arm for them to take a poke. The tattoos burned into her fur were clearly visible, making her 7 and a half foot form intimidating to say the least, not to mention the two cleavers on either hip. Despite her appearance, she smiled warmly at the kiosk worker.

"Be careful not to break that needle on my arm, friend."

The worker gently pierced Syn's flesh, and drew blood, looking up at her. "Engineer? You're big enough to move one of the pumps by yourself!"

She grinned, kindly.

"N'ah, nothing of the sort. Wouldn't be able to tell a pump from a gear shaft if I tried. My knowin's in other, less tangible things." she said. "I doubt I've got bugs in me, though. You are good to check though."

The worker passed the sample over to the doc. "Less tangible? Apothecary maybe?"

Suddenly, the city seemed tilt to one side, as a hydraulic piston began to leak.  Ray swung gently, and snored himself awake. "W-Wha~?"

Near the forest floor, several hungry eyes watched the city, hoping to get an easy meal.
