Title: Religion/Spirituality Poll
Post by: NautilusWolf on November 29, 2015, 11:15:09 PM
Well, I've seen a lot of religion related threads floating around here. That got me thinking. What is the belief/religion distribution among a sample of the furry fandom? Hopefully we learn a bit from this.

I myself am considering joining The Satanic Temple.

2edgy4me If you'd like to know more about the spiritual distribution of this forum, look at this poll. (http://www.thefurryforum.com/forums/index.php?topic=28664.45)

EDIT: Didn't realize the old thread was closed, but it's still fine for reference, if the 0P's purpose in the thread is learning about the distribution of beliefs.

Simply put, I'm agnostic.
Though I must add, for the silliness of it; BREE!

And for those who do not know of thy Great Giraffe:

Atheist.

Honestly as time has gone on I am slowly leaning towards being an Anti-theist. I will not worship any gods. however real they are.

I won't go into details due to the risk of starting a flamewar.

Agnostic atheist, as in I currently don't believe in a god but I accept that we can never truly know if one does exist.

Aren't a vast majority of furries on some level irreligious?

California Spiritualist. I just sorta go with whatever. If there truly are gods, most likely they're beings whom have evolved past the need for consciousness or something like that. Also Praised be Cthulhu and Satan

Atheist.

To be honest, it's just the lack of proof that's real and actually studied, that and I get a lot of crap from religious folks for a whole lot of nonsense, you know?
But I don't honestly care if you're for a god or against. You're cool either way.

Atheistic

I like to perceive what is there and don't feel the need to believe in anything to in someway enhance my experience of life or give me answers. I look to science for answers about how things work and why. I refuse to believe in anything that can fall under pseudoscience or anything that doesn't have any credible facts to back it up.

Basically I'm boring.

Then you need to work on the non-violence part.  :/

I feel 'atheist' is the closest thing to my position although it's not really a religion per se, although religions can encompass atheism.

Born, raised, and after a lot of struggle related to me being furry and pansexual I remain, Christian. I respect everyone's beliefs, though I don't tolerate aggressive anti-religious sentiment (meaning violent or vehement insults and negativity born of a dislike or disagreement with religious sentiment). In other words, respect my beliefs because I respect yours.  ^_^

I'm very new to the fandom and also life itself, if you think of it like that  :D I respect all religions, and beliefs (Christianity, atheism, Islam, satanism, etc.) but personally I am theistic (believe in a god), am very spiritual but I do not necessarily conform to abrahamic religion.

If I'm not mistaken, the furry fandom seems to be very accepting of all religions, from what I've experienced. There is a growing number of irreligious people in the world, and so is reflected in the fandoms of the world. Tis all well  :) acceptance is key anywhere  :P

I dunno what Atheistic satanism is, seems like an oxymoron to me.

Satanism is a diety, and atheism means you don't believe in a diety. So it's satanism without satam

"It is the position of The Satanic Temple that religion can, and should, be divorced from superstition. As such, we do not promote a belief in a personal Satan. To embrace the name Satan is to embrace rational inquiry removed from supernaturalism and archaic tradition-based superstitions. The Satanist should actively work to hone critical thinking and exercise reasonable agnosticism in all things. Our beliefs must be malleable to the best current scientific understandings of the material world — never the reverse."

(Source: The Satanic Temple-FAQ's)

In atheistic Satanism (Such as TST Satanism), Satan is used as a symbol, not an actual deity.

As far as I understand it, atheistic satanism was only called satanism because the guy who made it liked to be purposely offensive to spit in the face of taboo an stigma (a noble cause I'd say) so he called it Satanism to rustle the jimmies of Christians. I think the best part about that, if it is true, is that it worked pretty well.

Point still stands regarding the Great Giraffe being omitted.

I'd describe myself as agnostic. I don't believe in any particular religion but I don't think they can be ruled out either, I'm really unsure. In the end I'd rather just live my life as best I can and I don't think I need a book to do that. I still don't think religion can be ruled out completely however, and with more proof I'd be willing to listen.

I'm Christian, but I'm not that strict and there isn't really a denomination that really fits me, although I lean more towards the Protestant side. All denominations seems to have it's good and bad sides, not a single one is truly 'correct'.

Oh, I do have a question by the way...
Who in the world is Lemmy Kilmister?
I'm right with you, Michen.

Also, Lemmy is the bassist and vocalist for Motörhead.

I'm an odd mix of things. I'm an atheistic anti theist, yet I am poly theistic at the same time, but that is more I follow the ways of norse and Egyptian mythology. Yet its more of a life site then actually worshipping the deities. (if that makes any sense... Also I'm working on polishing my first cup of coffee XD)

Now that I am more awake I can explain better. xD I dont believe in the gods, just the ways of Norse and Egyptian mythos, if that makes more sense? I know I'm kind of an enigma. But its hard being a thinker with about four days of no sleep. Lol  @.@

@Silentium, What I think Styxx is saying is that they don't belive that the gods are physical beings that cause stuff to happen, or entities, but they are representations of characters and stories that you can learn from. EX, you can learn about cause and effect with the story of the Wall of Asguard in Norse Mythology without going "Those gods are real beings that can and did do that".

@Styxx is that close?

Good question! I've never searched because I always had a strong bond to the native american shamanic side. I don't know why but I feel comfortable with that. When I was born my parents wished I would be christian but they accept that I'm not. I was never a christian and I'll never be one.

I myself am Kemetic Orthodox. I worship the gods and goddesses of ancient egypt and believe that all deities that exist in human history are aspects of one entity: Netjer. I believe that in all faiths that aren't scientology (which has been proven to be a hoax scam in the court of law), there are many, many similarities within the morals that are taught, that there is an overarching desire for righteous behavior to benefit those around you and yourself.
