Title: Into the White
Post by: Snowpaw on October 25, 2007, 11:36:20 AM
I imagine some of you may not approve of a new member such as myself attempting to start his own rp, and a serious one at that. I only ask that you judge this action on the quality of the story provided, and the knowledge that rp'ing is really the only way I know to establish myself, since I do not yet know enough about the furry world to interact in any other manner.

Into the White takes place in the far future, in a world still recovering from a massive war that nearly brought extinction to all life. For a time, a select few countries ruled supreme. These nations bore superior military knowledge, both in the areas of tactics and weaponry. For a time, it was believed these nations would rule unopposed, forever. But, as is the nature of knowledge, these nations could not hold onto their secrets forever. Little by little, smaller, underdeveloped countries began to discover the same weapons, the same tactics. Perhaps, cruel though it is to say, it would have been better if these nations had been crushed underfoot from the start. However, this took place in a time where tolerance was valued, and military force was used reluctantly and only when there was no other option. By the time the leaders of these nations realized their error, it was too late. Four out of five world countries possessed firepower enough to destroy the world should they so choose. Tensions began to build between nations who could no longer find balance between their respective interests, who could not use force to achieve their own ends. For over twenty years, the ideal of world peace was finally achieved, but through fear alone. The fear that any country who engaged in military action against any other would spark a war of such intensity as to annihilate all life on this planet. Faced with this knowledge, the nations leaders met in a special assembly, and tried to negotiate a plan to slowly but urely eliminate each nations military arms. At this, they failed. No nation would lower it's military defenses and expose themselves to invasion and defeat by their neighbors.

It was never clear just who fired the first shot. The repercussions were such that no one cared. Within two days, half the world was in ruins. It was a war as had never been seen on earth, nor would its like ever be seen again. Many tried to flee the desolation, but there was nowhere to run...for most. Faced with devastation on a global scale, some few survivors fled to the one place that was most likely to remain untouched by the conflict, the one place where they could hope to lead their own lives.

They fled to the arctic.

For some, the move was fatal. Humans tried to survive in the extreme cold of the arctic waste, and even managed to hang on for two generations, but the arctic proved too much for them. The furres likewise struggled to survive, and almost died off as well. However, some few of these managed to hang on, doing whatever they could to survive. As chaos reigned and the world destroyed itself, a chosen few remained in the only safe haven, clinging to the ice.

Hundreds of years have passed, and in the struggle to survive, history has been forgotten, and those now living in the endless snows have no knowledge that life was ever different. Some have adapted to the deep and bitter cold, have returned to the wild, and roam the wastes alone. Others, less resilient, survive by staying together in small communities within the Rim. Life is hard, but peaceful on the whole. However, things are about to take a turn for the worse.

Many times throughout history, the world climate has changed. Sometimes this change has been slow, but at others the change is rapid, its effects immediate. One such change has begun to occur, and the arctic, always cold, is growing ever colder. Even within the Rim, those not strong enough to survive the change have begun to die off, and the decrease in temperature gives no sign of stopping. But in the deep and bitter cold, a memory, born of instinct, begins to stir in the hearts of those who live amongst the snow. A memory of warmth and sunshine, of a place without unending ice. To some, it is insanity, a childish fantasy of other worlds that could not possibly exist, but for those who have felt its call, a great adventure is about to begin.

There just may be a land of warmth, just waiting for those brave enough to venture into the white...

Details:

Furres: The people who live within the shelter of the Rim. They are not as hardy or resilient as the wild ones, but they are more social and survive by being dependent on one another. They live in large cave networks carved into the rim wall. Furres tend to be very friendly and comfortable with each other, so much so that a furre can almost never be seen alone. They usually keep company with other furres, and even sleep in groups to effectively conserve body heat. Furres have an innate distrust of the wild ones. Most are bipedal (walk on two legs).

Wild Ones: Those furres who have managed to adapt to the harsh conditions of the arctic. They can sometimes be seen within the Rim, but most live without. Wild ones are solitary creatures by nature, and tend to behave much more like animals than normal furres. Their name comes from the fact that they have returned to the wild in many respects, but most are still capable of speech should they choose to use it, and though it is rare for a wild one to interact with a furre in friendly terms, it is not unheard of. Though all wild ones still retain the ability to walk on two legs, most prefer to run on all fours.

The Rim: A tall, circular mountain range somewhere in the arctic. Furres can only survive within the shelter of the Rim, as it alone offers some protection from the Winds that blanket the rest of the arctic.

The Winds: The Winds are bitter cold and constantly blow across the surface of the arctic, though they are less severe inside the Rim. Wild Ones have learned to survive in their midst. When the Winds blow strong enough, a White is created.

The White: A fierce surge in the Winds. A White blows so fiercely that a veritable wall of snow is created in front of it, hence it's name. the windchill factor within a White is so severe that very few things are able to survive for more than a few minutes inside. Even Wild Ones lose their lives to it on occasion. As such, the White has become a symbol of death in the culture of the furres. Hence, when someone dies, it is said that they have "gone into the White".

Food: Within the Rim, most food is obtained via cave farming. The Rim mountains are composed of stone, even if it is covered in about a hundred feet of ice. Several varieties of edible plantlife have adapted to grow in the mountain rock. This is the primary food source for Furres. Where Wild Ones obtain their food is unknown.

More details will be revealed as the story progresses. In a very vague sense, the goal is simple. If the weather keeps getting colder, Furres will no longer be able to survive in the arctic. They must leave the safety of the Rim and travel to the edge of the world and beyond in search of the land of warmth. To enter this rp, begin by posting your character's name, species, and whether he/she is a furre or a wild one. Also provide a brief description of what your character looks like. Other details of your character will be revealed by the character's actions. The rp starts inside the Rim, in one of the communities in the Rim wall.

Name: Snowpaw
Species: Arctic Fox
Type: Wild One
Appearance: See profile

Snowpaw felt the soft, fresh snow compacting under his paws as he quietly made his way through the snow. In the distance, he could see a small settlement within the Rim wall. He often crossed the mountains to see how the Furres fared in their attempt to live. He pitied them in a way, it was interesting to watch their feeble attempts to understand the world in which they lived, the world they barely understood. Laying in the snow, invisible to all eyes, he watched...and waited.

Name: Airlea
Species: Arctic Wolf
Type: Now one of the Furres, used to be a Wild One.
Appearance: See profile

She walked softly through the snow, not really going anywhere inparticular. Scanning the area as she walked, she sighed. It was definately getting colder. She could feel it even before others had started to talk about it. Roaming the snowy streets of the community was a routine thing for her since she didn't have much to do. Still partially a Wild One at heart, she hadn't really made any close friends, just some acquaintances. She had only decided to live within the Rim because it wasn't as cold as the rest of the terrain was or else she would still be wandering around in the wild on her own. She waved a paw at someone who passed her, one of her acquaintances. She looked down at the ground as she walked on.

Name: Masko
Species: fox (vulpes vulpes)
Type: Furre
Appearance:
     Coloring:     Black
     Height:     Four foot seven
     Weight:     80 pounds
     Build:     thin.

He walked around, taking a breath of the crisp cold air of the Rim. He didn't like it here. He never has. He could never survive outside though, not being black, he'd be spotted a mile away in the whiteness of ice and snow. Not even his family was black, they were red, but that wasn't any better really. He couldn't help but think there had to be something out their better then this. He'd heard the wives tales, sunny days of warmth. Some dared to say there wasn't even ice. He didn't know about all that, but he kind of felt the desire to look for it. As he pondered on all that, he bumped into Airlea. "Oh! 'Scuse me, I'm sorry. I wasn't paying any attention."

She almost snapped at him when he bumped into her because he took her by surprise, but she stopped herself from doing so and spoke in a calm manner. "Oh, don't worry about it. I wasn't watching where I was going, I was looking at the ground." She gave him a reassuring smile and shrugged at the last part of what she said. It was partly her fault after all.

"Oh. Um... right. Sorry anyway, i should keep my wits about me. My head was off in the White, so to speak." He shrugged, grinning oddly.

Snowpaw, having seen all he wanted to see, nearly retreated back to the Flats (OOC: the large, flat, snowy plain covering most of the interior of the Rim. Furre civilization exists mostly on the Rim's edge, the interior of the plains encircled by the mountains is much like the wastes that lay without, only to a lesser egree of severity. Whites do sometimes occur in the Flats, but rarely.), but held his position when he saw something that caught his interest. There was a lovely wolf out there, speaking with one of the Furres, but he could tell she was not one of them. Her lean, muscular build, the color of her fur, her posture, ready to spring into action at a moment's notice...these details marked her clearly as one of his own kind...a Wild One.

Intrigued, he began to inch his way closer. It was a delicate task, moving each paw just right, placing it without a sound. She may have reverted to a Furre, but he knew that a Wild One never lost it's instincts. He could stand on the toe of almost any Furre in the Rim and not be seen, but he knew that one sudden movement, one misplaced step, and she would know he was there. Not that it made any difference if his presence was detected, but he preferred to remain unseen and unheard if he could help it. Slowly inching his way towards the pair in the street, he listened.

She chuckled a little. "Yeah, I know what you mean. I tend to get lost in my thoughts sometimes so I can be pretty inattentive. I'm Airlea, by the way." She held out a paw to him. As she held out her paw she could sense that she was being watched but she ignored this at the moment.

"Oh, um. I'm Masko." He shook her paw heartily and grinned again. He, however, was completely oblivious that they were being watched.

"Nice to meet you." She smiled, shaking his paw then letting go. She kind of turned her head to one side for a second, seeing if she could spot whoever was watching them but she saw no one. Then she turned her head and looked back at him.

The turn of Airlea's head did not go unnoticed on Snowpaw's part. He had been detected; how he did not know. He was certain he had never made a sound in his approach. Oh well, it was pointless to ponder the how and why, his cover was blown. So long as he did not move, she would be unable to determine his exact location while speaking with the furre. However, once the conversation was over, he had no doubt her innate curiosity would force her to seek him out in the snow. Now that she was aware of his presence, any movement in an attempt to retreat would give him away to her keen senses, and staying where he was guaranteed being located once she had the chance to look for him. Thinking of this, Snowpaw came to the decision that he would rather reveal himself on his own terms than be discovered by another. Not bothering to mask the sound of his steps, he slowly approached the pair in the street.

She looked over at the Wild One when she heard him, even before Masko had said anything. I knew I sensed someone! She looked at Masko. "I don't believe that I know him." She looked back towards the Wild One, examining him to see if he was familiar to her.

Snowpaw, sensing an awkward moment, attempted to initiate conversation in a deep, almost growling voice. (OOC: not actually growling, that's just his voice.)

"Well well, isn't this an occasion? Two of our kind in the same area at the same time...a rare occurrence by any standard. Although I am rather curious as to what exactly gave me away. Please, do tell."

Sparing a glance at the furre, Snowpaw sighed bitterly. "Oh, do I scare you? Nice to know I still have fear as an ally. In your case, however, I wouldn't be alarmed. I'm not much for direct combat, so if you know where I am you should be safe. Just don't let me get behind you..." With this, Snowpaw grinned slightly, and the tips of his sharp fangs became wisible below his lip.

She watched him intently. "Well, I didn't hear you...I just sensed that someone was watching us..." She glanced back at Masko and then back at the Wild One. "And how, may I ask, did you know that I was one of your kind?" She asked him, curious as to what gave her away.

"Oh, little things. Details, mostly. Maybe it's how you carry yourself...alert and ready should action be required on a moment's notice. Or perhaps it's the natural camouflage that you, like me, possess. Or maybe..." With this he cast a disparaging look at the furre "...it's because you're not shivering like a hairless newborn pup..."

(OOC: No offense, just acting out my character. :peace:)

"Hmph, can't disagree with that." Snow paw dismissed the furre from his mind and directed his full attention to Airlea. "Don't get me wrong, furres are nice enough to be around when I'm feeling...sociable..." Snowpaw interrupted himself to chuckle under his breath, as if at an inside joke. "...but I wouldn't get too close to any of them, were I you. You know what's going on. You know what will become of their kind if it doesn't change. Best not to become too...attached..."

Snowpaw turned and began to follow the road into the village proper. "Seeing as I'm here, I might as well hang around a little while. I'll be in the main cavern if you wish to chit chat. See you around..."

Within a few steps Snowpaw's frame vanished into the snowy ground that marked the road, the gentle swaying of his body as he walked being the only indication that he was even there at all.

Name: Aurora SAphir Artemas Fallen {sorry for the long name but she DOES use several of her surnames..just for reference when it gets confusing later}
Species: Artic {black} wolf
Type: Wild One

Aurora ran on all fours through the snow, reveling in the feel of it beneath her paws. Her nose picked up the scent of rabbit and she chased it, enjoying her game. Then a whistle from beside her made her whip her head around. It was just her hearing thngs again. She caught the rabbit, and eating it, howled mourfully. She wished there were more Wild One around. She stood on her back legs and looked around, her peircing blue eyes full of icy, raw, guarded emotion.

She just nodded at what he said and watched him walk away. So far she hadn't become attached to any of the Furres. She knew what was coming and she knew that many of them probably would die when that time came. She then turned to face Masko. "I'm sorry about that." She made a nod in the direction of the Wild One. "Are you alright?" She made a slightly concerned face. She didn't want him to be scared or nervous, especially not around her. She wanted to be trusted.

Decided this story needs a few more Furres

Name: Grace
Species: Badger
Appearance: Tall, somewhat round. Not very muscular.
Type: Furre

Name: Pipha
Species: Bear cub
Appearance: Short, somewhat muscular
Type: Furre

Amidst the light snowfall, a pair of Furres walked close together towards the outskirts of the community. One was a motherly looking badger in thick brown robes, the other a small brown bear cub who clung to her skirts. As they passed Snowpaw, the badger put her arm around Pipha, and he buried his face.

"It's cold, mama."
"I know, baby, I know."

(ironic, I was going to create a second one tomorrow if no one decided to step up and try.)

"Y-Yeah. I'm fine." He smiled genuinely, a bright smile full of kindness. "Pu-Please forgive the st-st-stammer. I know it's annoying, it's n-not even b-because I'm cold, I've always had it. G-getting better though!"

She smiled, relieved. "Ok, that's good. Don't worry about the stammer. It doesn't bother me at all. I've grown accustomed to many things in my life." She chuckled. What she said was true. She had had to get used to many things in the course of her life: the cold, other beings, behaviors, etc. The stammer wasn't a new thing to her, she had known another who was that way. A Wild One. But they had been killed by others because the others just thought they were weak because of the stammer. It was horrible. Luckily, Masko wasn't a Wild One and it wouldn't get him killed. He didn't know how lucky he was though or how unlucky was going to be. She looked down at her feet.

Name: Aphra
Species: Panther
Appearance: http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j82/molinamaniac/imvu%20stuff/cutecat.png
With a pair of goggles like this: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/EvilisCute/SkullPurple.png around her neck.
Type: Wild One

Once a furre, Aphra had ventured out on her own and adjusted to the cold... It wasn't easy being a panther used to tropical temperatures, but she wanted to survive after she'd realized that staying with the other furres would result in death. Carefully and silently she padded on the outskirts of the Rim. Unusually, the weather was calm and the snow glistened like shards of glass making Aphra feel at ease and peace. Yet she couldn't help but wonder how the others that she'd left behind at the Rim were. She'd never told them of the hate she'd felt for the place... She left without letting anyone know. The winds picked up, and she could sense by their fierceness that a White would soon form. Knowing of its dangers, she slipped her goggles from around her neck onto her face so that she would be able to see... Then dropped on all fours, running while simutaneously releasing a troubled, high pitched cry to allow any wild ones in the area (if any) that a White would soon be about.

She looked up at him, chuckling a bit because of the first part of what he said. "Yeah, bad memories..." Her look seemed like she was far away in thought, but she shook her head to clear it. "Just...a friend of mine...out there..." She nodded in a direction away from the Rim. "Was killed by our own kind. The Wild Ones. They thought that he was weak because he had a stammer, like you." She looked away from his eyes for a second then back at them. "And...he was killed for it." She took a deep breath to calm herself. "A bad memory. A horrible thing to happen to an innocent friend. And I fear more bad memories to come." She kept her eyes locked on his, her expression showing how serious she really was now. "It's getting colder. You may have noticed this, but maybe not. In a very short time, the Furres and Wild Ones will need to leave here. We need to get to somewhere warmer. Somewhere that we will be safe. The problem is, many will perish on the journey. Mostly Furres, I believe, because they're not used to the extreme colds outside the Rim. That's why that Wild One told me that it is best that I don't become attached to you or anyone else. But I don't think that will be possible for me. I can't not care about others." She looked off to the side.

"I'm.. S-sorry for your loss." He reached out to her, and touched her shoulder gently in a silent addition. When she started talking of the Cold, he replied, "Really? To t-t-ell you the truth, I hadn't really n-noticed it getting colder, but...." He looked off for a second trying to decide if he dared say it. "But I've b-been feeling weird recently. She smiled at him for a second when he touched her shoulder. Then she gave him a questioning look. "The feeling I understand, I get that too. Of course, I had known why before I started getting that feeling. But dreams? What dreams?" She hadn't heard of anyone having dreams about this. She was intrigued by learning that he had.

Aphra stopped after she felt the winds calm a little in comparison of what she had been in before. She closed her eyes and sighed as she realized that she had entered the Rim subconsciously. She hadn't been here in so long... two years at least. She wondered how much had changed. How many of her friends may have died from the cold. It felt a little warmer in the Rim. She'd adjusted to the cold outside... It actually felt a little awkward. She arched a brow at two furres that she saw in the distance talking. One was black and looked familiar. As if she'd known him from before she'd wandered on her own... Even so she felt no need to approach, for if she really did know him, she doubted he'd remember her. Last she had heard by the Rim, everyone she knew had said she'd gone into the white. The other was an arctic fox.

The gentle badger led her young charge over to the group gathered in the snow.

"Excuse me, but I couldn't help overhearing someone mention dreams. My little one here has been having odd dreams of late, mayhaps one of you could help him? I have experienced nothing, so I don't know how."

The little bear cub stood next to Grace with one finger in his mouth, looking to the others curiously.

She nodded at him, knowing he was thinking that that thought was strange. "That makes sense really. That's where everyone will be going. A place like that. It really does exist." She turned to the badger as she approached them and smiled sweetly. "Oh yes. We were talking about some dreams. We could probably help your young one here." She looked at Masko for a second then diverted her attention to the little bear cub, crouching down in front of him. "What have you been dreaming about, little one?" She smiled at him nicely, trying to make sure that he wasn't afraid of her.

OOC: I wish we had more furres. This is supposed to be about their survival. And Wild Ones tend to be rather antisocial, but I suppose I should have specified that. My fault.

Pipha looked into Airlea's face nervously. "Well...it's warm...and there's lots of sunlight. I'm in a field...but there's no snow, just lots and lots of green stuff. I don't know what it is, but it was pretty. And past that was more green trees, but they were thiiis tall!" Pipha brought his hand up as high as he could, and ended up standing on tip toes before losing his balance and falling on his rump in the snow. From his position, he looked up at Airlea and smiled cutely. "Kind of like that, but taller. And there was something else too. It was snowing, but it was really wierd snow..." Pipha's eyes shone with excitement as he almost shouted "It was liquid snow!"

OOC (again): sorry for all the ooc's, and for not specifying these things before. The only plant life in the arctic is the variety they use for food and grow in the caves. Things like "grass" and "trees" are not among them. And it's too cold to rain in the arctic, so all they ever get is snow. They have no words for these things anymore, only memories.

(OOC: Usually my characters tend to be anti-social. That's why I chose Wild One... And that's why she hasn't talked to anyone yet. It has nothing to do with a weaker character. I can make another character as a furre if you wish. I was thinking about it anyway. And, Vee, my bad.)

Name: Atticus
Species: Panther
Type: Furre
Appearance: Peariced ears, mohawk, along with thick layers of clothing that are somewhat punkish.

Atticus had been wandering the streets when he saw a group of furs gathered. He over heard their conversation about dreams. How everyone in the group had the same dreams of strange greenery and sunny skies with warm weather. He twitched his nose to relieve what little snow that had collected on whiskers and stepped into the conversation, uninvited, "My sister had dreams totally opposite of what you furres have been having. She dreamed of death. Death and extinction among all of us furres. She had me worried for sometime... But then one day she just disappeared. That was over a year ago... We haven't seen her since. We figure she'd gone into the white."

xxxxxxxxxx

Aphra sat in the distance, trying her best to hide in the snow. She was shocked to see that her brother joined the group in speaking. It had to be her brother.... Their words were very audible, but she heard the conversation of dreams, closing her eyes and trying to shake bad memories of the nightmares she had when she used to live in the Rim. Uneasily, she crept closer, trying to keep the right amount of distance between the group and herself.

Aurora noticed tracks in the snow and followed them, halting when she heard voices. She howled bitingly and looked around for the source. She could feel slight vibrations in the ground and she thought maybe it was something or someone bigger and stronger than she. Her ribs shown through her skin, she hadn't had a bite in several weeks.

{OOC:Nyx, im a black wolf so if you see one, yea, so far it seems I'm the only black wolf yet.}

OCC: Nyx, I wasn't talking about you specifically, more the group as a whole. and just so everyone remembers, I'm a black fox, since so many people are sending reminders, I figure I might as well.

He shook his head, "Well, I d-don't know about everyone, but I know me and the k-k-kid are having the same dream." When Atticus spoke up, he said, "We're not guh-going to die out. We may have t-t-trouble now and then, but, we c-can't let that happen."

She moved closer to them(marquis &company) and howled again, watching them cautously. She wondered if they were wild or not. She was desperate for food, she didn't care where it came from- she just needed food.

Masko Flinched when he heard that piercing howl. As a fox, it wasn't much of a welcome sound to his ears. "I uhm...Th-th-think we have another v-visitor.."

She watched one of them flinch and she lowered the tone of her howl, lowering the volume as well. She howled again but softly this time. "FOOOOOODDD!!"

In the span of an instant, what was once just a patch of snow behind the black wolf was suddenly a fox, white as the snow surrounding him. Before anyone could react, he had one long, sharp claw held firmly against the black wolf's throat.

"I'm not one to interrupt, but if you're out to hunt some Furre, perhaps you should learn a little stealth. It does not do to announce your arrival to the world..."

Before the wolf could react violently, Snowpaw had retracted the claw and stepped away. "I'm not going to stop you, how you hunt is your own business, but I would advise against it. There are some in that little...group...who are more than capable of defending themselves against one such as yourself..."

Even so, Snowpaw's own eyes flicked in the general direction of the very small Furre. It would make good prey out in the wild, but he had long ago determined not to hunt in the Rim. It was not his territory. Why he had decided to circle back and watch the group, he still did not know.

She couldn't help but grin at the little bear cub. He was a cutie. She nodded along with what he said. "Well, little one, what you dream of actually does exsist. That's a place that we will need to travel to in due time. Everyone in the Arctic will have to." She patted him on the head and stood up when Atticus arrived, listening intently. When Masko responded, she smiled. He was so full of hope and determination. That was good. It would help him on the journey. She turned her head towards the newcomer, even before Masko had realized that they were there. Her eyes widened some. She watched the Wild One that had talked to her earlier speak to the other. He was scolding the other on how she had approached but was letting her continue if she wanted. "She wants food. You all need to..." She spoke in a slightly fearful tone, not for herself but for the others. She turned to the others and said the next word with force but not loudly. "Run." She turned her head to look back at the new Wild One then sharply turned it back to the group, talking in a commanding and urgent tone. "Everyone go! Pick him up-" She pointed down at Pipha. "-And run for safety now!"

Atticus stood his ground and looked condescendingly at the arctic fox (Vee). He arched his brow, "I may be a furre, but I'm not running, nor am I standing down to a damned wild one that's preying on our people." He drew a knife made of bone that he had carved himself that he kept with him at all times. "No way." He looked chiseled and though he stayed within the Rim, he stayed in top physical condition just for situations like this.

Grace almost grabbed Pipha and ran, but that would leave them both alone without protection. It was wiser to stay where they were, in a large group that could be easily defended. Far safer to remain near Airlea and Atticus than to try and run away on their own. A fleeing target was always the first one struck.

Snowpaw watched the developing situation with interest, and looked sidelong at the ravenous wild one. "You see? This is why you don't hunt in the Rim. You won't be getting a meal from them. And I would think twice before trying to take a bite out of me..." Snowpaw bared his fangs and growled warningly...

Aphra watched slightly in fear by the way Atticus had reacted to the Wild One. "Damned Wild One," he had said. He had drawn his knife, ready to kill the black wolf on the spot... Would he draw his knife against his own sister as well? Would he slit her throat just because she had turned wild? She asked herself these questions again and again, heavily debating on whether she should make her presence known... Though she was sure at least one of them could have spotted her already. She was so close to them, and was the only black thing aside from the wolf in the snow.

xxxxxxxxxx

Atticus's icy blue eyes darted back and fourth taking in everything of the current situation. He was in a firm stance, ready to lash out if need be. Something though, in the distance caught his eye. Something black. Another wolf, maybe? Reinforcements for the one that was already here? He was unsure, as he'd never known the ways of the wild ones, nor could he tell what kind of animal it was by its shape... A low growl crept from his throat as he announced, "There's another one!" And pointed directly at the black wild cat in the snow.

Aurora barely blinked. "And, to what do I get the pleasure of your claw to my throat?" Her voice was a thick, husky, deep accented rust. "I would rather politely ask for food than hunt them persay." She thought a minute on how their reactions would be if she ran past and didn't do anything? She decided to do just that. After- she figured the fox's problem out. GOD! She was STARVING!

Her eyes darted to the new Wild One that Atticus had pointed out. They wouldn't have back-up for their hunting. Wild Ones are anti-social and rarely asked for help when they hunted. She thought to herself. Looking back and forth between the two Wild Ones, she stood next to Atticus and in front of the others protectively. She'd be ready to protect them if she had to.

"I'm not r-running either." He had a determined look on his face, moving in front of the child.

She took a short glance back at Masko and the others, then looked back towards the Wild Ones in front of her as she spoke. "Fine. Actually, it does make more sense if you stay. Easier for someone to get picked off if we seperate..." She rubbed her forehead. It was hard for her to imagine that idea but it was the truth. She didn't want the blood of the innocent on her hands...not again. Her gaze moved between the two Wild Ones, not concerned with Snowpaw who was talking to one of the others. She didn't believe he would hurt them or else he would've when he had met her and Masko.

Not getting a reply, Aurora frowned at the flash of light, blinking. Ow. I wonder what that thing is. She moved closer, standing on two legs and whimpering. "Firomar, I mean you no harm." She shouted crisply, tring to be heard through her accent.

All eyes on the approaching wild one, no one noticed Pipha, the little bear cub, as he slipped out from the group and tottered towards the wolf. One arm held out in front of him, he was out of reach of the group by the time they noticed what was going on. Within a few steps he had reached the ravenous creature and stretched out a hand to place it on its shoulder. Grace gasped in fear and horror, and snowpaw merely stood by as usual, waiting to see what would happen...

She looked down at the bear cub and lowered her head. "Hello Bearon. Are you part of that Groupa over there?" Her English sorely lacked. Licking his face gently, Aurora smiled at him motherly. "I appreciate your sympathy Bearon. Thanksa." She sat indian-style, gently placing him in her lap and rubbing his stomach with her claws. "Hows that?"

She started to step forward when she realized that the cub was with the Wild One but stopped when she saw that the Wild One wasn't hurting the cub. Was that a smile? It appeared that the Wild One meant the cub no harm but she kept watching intently in case anything happened.

Aphra froze. For some reason she was scared, yet another reason, she was confused and didn't know what else to do. She decided that she would not speak or approach unless she was forced to.

xxxxxxxxxx

Atticus looked at the wolf slightly confused, yet he did not relax. He stayed tense, his weapon drawn... Just in case.

Grace nervously approached the pair out in the snow and took hold of Pipha's hand. The bear cub was still smiling at the wolf. "Did you have dweams too?" he said, looking adorably cute. Snowpaw could have spat on the ground right there were it dignified. Innocence and cuteness were not in his nature, and he did not find them appealing. They were not generally traits that helped one survive...

"Yes, Bearon, I did. Did you?" She smiled wider, trying to keep her dripping fangs hidden so she didn't scare the cub. "Adorable Little One." She felt eyes burning holes in her ribs and looked up; the group was watching her intently. She gently placed the cub in the fur's arms and stood, bending several times, listening to her bones crackle and pop.

She kept watching the Wild One intently. She saw that the Wild One obviously meant the cub no harm but she wasn't going to go over to her. She knew the ways of the Wild Ones, they could always change their minds in the blink of an eye. She stretched her arms outwards and then scratched her nose, looking down for a second and then back up.

Picking the cub back up, she smiled and tickled his stomach. "Bearon, who are they?" She pointed at the group behind them

Noticing the smaller fur, Aurora walked over, bending to his eyelevel. "What's wrong O Confused One?" She asked with a serious frown.
