Title: Terrible School Clinic
Post by: Bembix on October 22, 2015, 04:30:58 PM
I am currently in immense, uncontrollable intestinal pain in a position where nobody can pick me up immediately.
I go to the clinic to receive over-the-counter painkillers to dull it just a little bit, so I can attempt to finish some schoolwork. I've filled out my form for receiving painkillers a month ago, but I am denied because the form was marked as invalid. They refuse to elaborate. This may just be protocol, but it is still extremely aggravating.
I call my grandfather to see if he could possibly come and pick me up. He can but it will take forty five minutes for him to get here, due to him being in the middle of a veterinarian visit. Immediately after getting off the phone, the same clinic worker gives me a five minute long lecture about how I need a "special pass" (there are no special passes) to use the phone and that the clinic is not just "your personal cell phone" (I have used the clinic phone a grand total of twice). I am still experiencing extreme intestinal pain, now accompanied by back pain and intense nausea. She tells me the most I can sit and rest is five minutes, because I am not throwing up and I do not have a fever. She claims I am faking my pain because I am not crying and writhing.
I ask for some water, she refuses and sends me back to class, saying I wasn't "really sick."

I'm not sure if it counts as a rant, just telling my bad experience. But I am typing this very angrily, because the pain has gotten worse and I have started dry heaving. This is still not criteria enough for a rest on the clinic bed. I cannot have painkillers, I am not being picked up, and this is guaranteed to happen multiple times this year.

Short version: I am in pain and school clinic does not help. I am angry.

Is your belly swollen, do you have any hard, painful spots, what about bowel movements? Intestinal problems is nothing to joke about, you can die from it, so I suggest you to call emergency services asap.

btw, you can brew strong painkillers from OTC medicine

My bowel activity is normal (as it gets for me). This is unfortunately pretty normal for me. :\ I've already been to the doctor and she says it's alright.

I do appreciate the concern though :'] The pain's mostly subsided for now. I went to sleep as soon as I ended up getting home.

Sounds like someone should lose their job and have to go back to uni and get their qualification again, because that is a completely unacceptable way to treat a student, and any student that complains about feeling unwell or experiencing pain should be investigated. It's almost like she just doesn't want to do her job.

Yeah. A lot of students do come in and fake being sick so they can get out of class, but she didn't even bother with any standard clinic procedure (temperature taking, blood pressure, etc.) so I don't know what her problem was.
With the school I'm at the staff are either the nicest people you will ever meet or the most uncooperative, belligerent, stubborn jerks you'll ever deal with. Don't know what the deal is there. >:\

I'm not a doctor, but I will say it is not normal to have chronic pain
