Title: I need a convincing lie
Post by: Indie Bomb on October 15, 2015, 11:38:49 AM
So I got a new girlfriend a couple of weeks ago. I'm really happy with it and we both really like each other. But I have a problem, it's long distance (She lives in the Uk and I live in Canada) and my family knows nothing about it. I want to tell them but I know bad things will happen. I need a convincing lie so that when she does come to canada I can still see her. I had this idea, "So, I met her in the mall. Her and her family are from the Uk and they're touring canada. We just saw each other and then we just, I don't know, fell in love." now I don't think that's going to work. If you can make something better than that, tell me. I would really need it.

First of all, why would your family not allow you to meet a girl?

It's because they think I know nothing about the internet. And If I told them honestly I would be in big trouble. I still don't understand myself

Oh so you met her over the internet. I get it now. Anyway, don't make a big deal out of it, just casually tell your parents you're going to hang out with your friends.

Oh?
When did you meet her at the mall?
I don't remember you going there...

Wouldn't lying to your parents make it worse especially if they found out? Maybe you shouldn't tell them at all. I mean I don't how old you are, but couldn't you just say you're going out with a friend or something. If you tell them this, you're technically not lying.

Yeah, lying about it would probably be bad. If you lie at the beginning you may very well have to lie about all of the follow up questions, and sooner or later you are not going to be able to keep track of everything.

That, and if your parents find out that you have been lying, that will negatively color the perceptions your parents have of your relationship as well.

Maybe say nothing?
