Title: Undertale
Post by: Grovygrunge on October 01, 2015, 06:39:38 PM
So has anyone played this amazing gem of an indie game? If not, go play it. It's an awesome game, more fuel for the "games are art" view. Or just a cool demonstration of things that can be done with the medium. If you have, let's talk about it and stuff. Sound cool?

I just bought it, actually! I'm just about to start it up for the first time...

It looks great, and I'm really surprised it was made in Game Maker! I didn't know you could make something of that quality with GM!

No... I meant Goatdad.
I didn't... I didn't know there was another way...

But I am currently HORRIFIED because of that friggin' flower!!

The other way doesn't work until you get neutral ending anyway, now you can go for the good ending.

Yeah, that flower. It's burned into our collective memory. I know the fear.

Its kill, or be killed.

Probability of a sequel?

Toby says he'd have to think about it, knowing the sequel wouldn't ever be as successful as the original

I like the game a lot, and I enjoy the interaction between you and the other characters too. I want a goatmom now  X3 But really, Toriel is my favorite character, along with Undine and Temmie(so weird but so cute...). I don't think I could possibly go through with the bad route so I watched a let's play of it first ^^'

I played genocide route past night, and I'm never looking back. It took hardly anywhere near as long as I thought it would.

We gain points for care, but lose none from the scars we create.

TBH, the game was overhyped to me, and when I watched gameplay I got bored of it.

You're supposed to play it, not watch it. That's like watching someone play spec ops the line.

I don't want to waste the money on it though. .-.

The only way to truly experience a game is to play it.

Besides, Undertale is only 10 bucks.  You're getting a good value for that.

I dunno. For ten bucks on a game that barely even raises an eyebrow in interest for me isn't worth it. Not even for a dollar. :T

I have got to side with Silentium and Grovy here, having said that, if you have watched it, playing it will be a less awesome experience anyway :T

Its one reason I have not picked it up, I know half of what happens (Including some of the BIG twists) from Grovy talking endlessly about it without regard for spoilers. :I

Having seen the opening, I just don't care for it. It doesn't interest me. I only watched the opening.

You're kidding?
Best you can do is play the demo. It's free on the undertale website.

What happened to not judging books by their covers?

The game is Glorious... I found out about it by the Game Grumps...

Yes I watched the walkthrough but it was... GLORIOUS.

I'm getting the game and playing through it. Pacifist mode all the way!

(Also, Temmie is a god ._. )

Eh **censor**, late to the party but whatever. Crest did it.

A friend of mine and a good rp buddy bought me this game as a birthday gift and I ended up not playing it for a little while. I was pretty busy and whatnot. However, once I did pick it up... It was the game that taught me I suck at bullet hell.

I knew all about the morality system from the get-go, less by spoilers more by presented options and inference. That, and Toriel explained it pretty well. I, of course, did a Pacifist run. Flowey never bothered me, and I often wondered what role he might play later.

Needless to say I wanted to wreck his smug ass after Asgore (who I do really think is a character I can relate to in terms of personality). Of course I had no idea what I was in for, so I reacted a tad... Flabbergasted. By just how **censor** intense it was, anyway. The design was creepy in that fight, but I've seen far, FAR worse, so that didn't faze me.

The true pacifist ending actually brought tears to my eyes, something that a game has pretty much never done. I even backtracked the entire underground afterward, talking to literally everyone, hoping I could really save that last soul. Because he is a character that I love to pieces and just want to hug until he can be saved.

Anyway, my experience was positive beyond a doubt. I opted to not do a genocide run. Ever. Because I chose the Pacifist system, and I'm not about to go back on that - these characters are all far too great. So I watched Barry and Ross play a genocide run on Game Grumps. I uh, actually had to take a break from the videos a few times because feels. Poor Undyne... Jesus Christ the title of her geno battle track is too true.

But well, my favorite character was likely either Sans or Asriel, with a close one in Toriel. Sans loves puns, I love puns; Sans loves his brother, I love all of my siblings; sans is super relaxed and friendly, I'm super relaxed and friendly. The list goes on. Asriel, however... Well, reminds me of my youngest brother. And seeing that suffering and loss... Well, you can understand why I was so hung up on that ending based on that. And Toriel was just such a sweetheart to the core that I would have actually let my character hang out in the ruins a bit longer if I didn't know the result of that.
