Just download the font. If you visit a Japanese site you might be prompted to download them. I use Firefox so all i see right now on this computer is "???".

Looks like a winner idea... maybe you should make one 'custom' only to yourself and make others based off of it in a more 'generic' fashion.

Hm... looks good. But what do you hate about the hair? I think it's a good 'style' and matches the 'character' quite well. There can be improvements to it, but I think it's really good as it is right now.
