Title: Free portraits to help me practice?
Post by: ★Amethyst★ on August 08, 2015, 06:55:16 AM
Hey, guys! So I tend to draw humans a bit, so my anthros are a tad rusty. I'm trying to practice more and find my own style, and I would love to try drawing other people's fursonas/characters for free to try improving. I'm taking 4, maybe 5 slots. Any more and I'll be overwhelmed and it'll take forever and no one wants that  X3

Unfortunately, I will probably only be able to draw mammals atm. I don't think I'll be able to do scalies or avians justice just yet. Sure, why not?

A picture reference would be awesome, but otherwise a detailed description will suffice. Please specify whether you want a head shot, waist-up, or full-body(might take a little longer). Also, whether it's traditional (B/W or colored pencil), or digital(B/W or color). I just got my new tablet hooked up, and it might take a little longer  XP

Slots (+progress)
1. Nemael [full-body, b/w trad.]
2. Haze [full-body, color]
3. Cheza [waist-up, color] scanning
4. Halei-Helai [waist up, color] rough sketching
5. Mr. Razot [headshot, color] pending

Requests closed!

Even though you're not up to it, I'm totally here for you to try :P

Wow. That is certainly one way to get the practice you need. Thank you for this awesome offer!

Would you feel comfortable giving this fellow a shot? http://sta.sh/24gu2yz42rs (http://sta.sh/24gu2yz42rs)

For style, traditional B&W waist up with the armor shown on (or full body if you're feeling it)? He can be 'naked' if you would prefer not to draw him in the getup, ahah.

I would like to see a bust. Use my profile picture are reference. Hair a bit darker and parted on the left, swept across the brow. A small bronze medallion on a sliding necklace. If this description proves too vague, I will add details.

If you feel like it, I'd like a waist-up of my cheetah fursona ^^'

(She's pretty much just a normal average female cheetah with straight long brown hair)

(Shows her fur and eye color. Her hair is chocolate brown.)

You can draw her dressed in any way you want and in any style you want ^^
Thanks for the opportunity. ^^

Heya! If you end up doing a fifth portrait go ahead and give me a whirl. Expression and style is entirely your prerogative. I like seeing an artist's interpretation.

Reference is in a link under my avatar :)

Whoops, I fell asleep  XP

Okay, I think I have enough slots filled now. Cheza, Nemael, Haze, and Halei, I'd be glad to draw your characters. And you know, I feel kind of adventurous so I guess I'll try drawing yours too, Razot. I am trying to get practice in after all so I should be trying to stretch my limits ^^

For the time being requests will be closed. I'll update my slots now with your names and will try to update with WIPs when I can. I can't give a concrete deadline but sometime next week, if that's okay?  ^_^

[please note I'm doing them mostly in order of posting so some may take a little longer than others]

Woot! Thanks a bunch :) No worries from me, take as long as you need. I have no desire to rush you.

Wonderful, thank you! And as Halei said, there is no need or reason to rush with it. ^^

Here's a (very) rough sketch of Nemael so far. To be honest I was a little apprehensive but it's turning out kind of fun. Before I realized it I was doing a full-body ^^'

After seeing what you are capable of, is it possible to adjust my request to be full body? I will post the specifics when I can get them together if that is fine with you.

I can understand that completely. I tend to get that way when drawing gifts for people since I never know if they will like it or if it will even match up to their expectations (in the case of requests)...

Never the less! *views sketch*

...I. Wow. Even as a rough WIP it is looking amazing! I love how fluid the movement is and how it appears as though he may be leaping backwards (off or away from something) or possibly even in the middle of skirting back during flight.

This is so wonderful. I cannot wait to see it completed. Ffffs, Farore.

That's totally fine. I might as well anyway since I'm on a drawing spree now  XP When you post some more details I can begin drawing yours very soon.

And thanks Nemael! I can't wait to finish it.

Full Body Illustration
Let me just dump all this here.

Height: 5'10"
Wingspan: 14 feet, feathers 2-3' in length depending on which part of the wing. Similar in structure to eagles.
Build: Similar to profile picture; somewhat thin, not exceedingly muscular or otherwise.
Hair: Medium-length dark brown (similar to profile picture in length), swept to the right just above the eyebrows.
Items: Bronze medallion 1.5" in diameter.  Slight rim along the edges, and hung on a sliding knot necklace of black cord.
Clothing: Medium dark blue T-shirt, standard blue jeans.
Anatomy: Retracted claws in each finger, thumb, and toe. Feline pupils, brown irises with gold flecks. Digitigrade feet with four toes. No mane, but the addition of a tuft at the end of the tail (like actual lions) similar in color to hair and feathers.
Markings: Scar across third toe of left foot, lightly discolored.
Coloration: Similar to what you see on my profile picture, except no pink in the ears, and a darker brown shared between the hair, feathers, and ends of the tail.

Posed during landing from a flight, just after making contact with the ground. Wings extended as a bird would have theirs during landing. Facial expression of concentration with a very slight hint of a thoughtful happiness.

I like what I am seeing. Your WIP gives me a good idea of what you are capable of. Keep up the great work Amethyst.

I am perfectly fine with the time it took. I am very grateful that you took the time to draw this for me, and I think you did an excellent job. Thank you.
