Title: Unusual birds?
Post by: Eden-H on July 27, 2015, 10:23:53 PM
Complete topic change since I thought this would be a more entertaining endeavor, not to mention less fruitless than trying to search for insects and bugs based solely on their scientific names. Nightmarish, man. Nightmarish.

Never the less, any unusual or unique species of bird that you rarely see being used or that you have noticed most people haven't heard of? Although not an avian, an example would be the lingsang. I only know three people, all online, who have any awareness of the creature.

Farore, these birds are incredibly gorgeous (and adorable)! I find it interesting how the male is so starkly contrasting and the female appears to be a sort of mossy green, if my monitor isn't lying to me?

So cute. <3 Thank you for pointing them out to me!

I legitimately searched "Farore" wondering if the goddess was named after a bird :P

Also, wow, the Araripe Manakin is beautiful :O
Almost like a mini Red-Crowned Crane

Perhaps not that obscure a bird when it comes to general knowledge, but I have never seen a fursona based upon a red-winged blackbird. I personally like them a lot, and you would think, given the red shoulders, it would work for a military fursona given how the shoulders kind of remind me of the tasseled golden shoulders that older military dress uniforms had.

I am truly missing out when it comes to unusual and unique looking species of bird. I will admit I have never seen the one you mentioned or had any knowledge of it Halei, yet I am quite aware of some of the most obscure and extinct varieties... Never the less, I agree with you completely on how it looks similar to a epaulet. For a fursona that perhaps has their own military designed around their fantasy world, that would be an incredibly neat way to display it; perhaps dying it as needed.

You know, I would not be in the least bit surprised if somewhere, somehow, Farore was named after some sort of bird. ._. And it really does look it! Around here, I keep seeing miniature versions of jays and cardinals, but running any kind of search for that predictably brings up statues and baubles!

The shoebill! xD

Or the mandarin duck. I personally think those are adorable. Not too sure if they're "uncommon" or even all that unique, but I like them anyway.

I've never seen a character based on either of those, tho I suppose the first one -might- have a few...

The shoebill is such an incredibly adorable bird. <3 I love how their beaks look so massive and clunky, but they are actually beasts. As for the mandarin duck, I only know of one; though they used it as a loose base for a gryphon, so I am not entirely sure if that counts...
