Kabel pulled himself out of the lake he had landed him, coughing water out of his throat. He collapsed on shore, panting. He looked around the shore, trying to see anything familiar. No such luck. He sighed "where am i.." he coughed again
-
Peppa was flying overhead. She was hoping she could find somewhere she recognised. She had no idea where she was, but she figured it was a good idea to take the gun she found near where she appeared. It only had one magazine, but it was enough for now. She was flying over the lake when she spotted someone laying on the bank. She circled, wondering if she should approach.
-
Kabel shook his head, clearing his vision more and picked himself up to his feet. "Hello?" He called "is anyone there?" He coughed a little again
-
Peppa continued to circle. Eventually she decided to land. She swooped in and landed on all fours, ready to take off again St a moments notice.
-
He stops when he sees the other griffin "are you friendly?" He calls to her
-
"that depends. Are you?"
-
"I am if you are.."
-
She stood, tucking her wings in behind her back. "where are we?" she asked, looking around but keeping him in view.
-
'I was about to ask the same of you" He shrugged
-
"well... I guess neither of us knows... Shall we look around?"
-
"I guess"
-
She extended her wings again, preparing to take off. "I saw a City that way. I think we should look there."
-
"Right, lets go there" he spread his wings, pausing to shake water out of them and lifted off
-
She also took off, taking a running start. "did you have any weapons?" she asked, flying in above him.
-
"Just my hook swords" he showed off the fierce looking hookswords om his back "i lost my knives in the lake"
-
She sighed. "we'll have to find supplies in the city if it's abandoned. I got a handgun, but it only has one mag.."
-
"Agreed.." he said nodding "ill need a sharpener for these blades, and some knives light enough to throw. What caliber handgun do you have by the way?"
-
She examined the gun as they flew. It was rather hefty. "I'm not sure. Fifty, I think..."
-
"Hand it here, let me look" he moved over next to her as they flew, and reached out his clawed hand
-
She most definitely didn't give him the high calibre weapon. She clearly didn't trust him that much yet.
-
He shrugged as he flew beside her "well, how heavy is it? And how big are the bullets?"
-
He shrugged as he flew beside her "well, how big are the bullets? And how heavy is the weapon?"
-
She cocked the gun, and a bullet popped out. It was indeed a fifty caliber round. "a bit heavy."
-
"Its definitely fifty cal." He said nodding "youll want something lighter probably"
-
"it's not too heavy. I can carry bigger... Name's Peppa. Peppa Centauri."
-
"Kabel. Kabel labelle" he smiled "nice to meet you peppa"
-
"likewise." that was all she said for the rest of the flight. She looked deep in thought.
-
"Hmm.. centauri.." kabel was thinking "why does that sound familiar.."
-
"my brother is a famous metalworker. Centauri smithing is what he called his business."
-
He snapped his claws "thats where i know it! He made my swords!"
-
She didn't seem all that impressed, or even interested. They caught an up draft from a skyscraper and gain altitude quickly. "let's search this building from the top." she said.
-
"Good idea" he nodded and flew in closer to the building
-
It was only a couple of seconds until the up draft sent them over the top of the building. Peppa overshot, but she still tucked her wings in, landing safely. The roof appeared to be clear.
-
Kabel landed next to her, drawing his swords "the roofs clear... but the rest of the building might not be.."
-
"I figured." she proceeded to the door to the stairwell.
-
"Hold up" he stopped her before she walked through the door. "Let me check for traps" he waved a sword through the doorway, feeling for a trip wire
-
"and if it's a spring trap?" she said, blocking his sword from going any further.
-
"Thats what the swords for" he shrugged "got a better idea?"
-
She just walked through. "use our eyes." there were visibly no tripwires. They were the very first two contestants, so there would be no traps set yet. They also had two hours to find their gear and set up camp before the next group was selected.
-
"Whatever" he shrugged and followed her in "we should make camp in the plains, away from the city."
-
She didn't respond. They came to the first floor on their way down. The building groaned. "that didn't sound good." the building felt like it was saying. A lot.
-
"We should probably leave" kabel said looking out one of the windows "like, now"
-
"agreed." the ground started to appear in one line of windows of the bare interior. Peppa ran back for the stairs.
-
"Quickly please!" Kabel ran after hee
-
A moment later, gravity seemed to give way. With a thrust of her wings, she launched into the stairwell and bound off the wall, through the door into the open air. She was out, but the building was falling sideways, and fast.
-
Kabel had tripped before he could make it into the stairwell, but he jad spread his wings and burst out one of the windows, sending glass everywhere
-
Peppa pulled away from the falling building. Turned out, a large chunk of it was missing. She hovered, looking for Kabel.
-
Kabel flew up beside her, panting "ow.. i think i got some glass in my wing.." he muttered as he picked at one of them
-
"well, I can see a chunk of feathers missing on your right wing. Let's land on that one." she pointed to a lower building away from the falling one.
-
"Alright, hopefully this one doesn't fall either" he slowly flew down amd landed on the building, folding up his wings painfully
-
"this one is actually whole." she said, landing next to him. She gently grabbed his wing and made him extend it. She examined his wound. "... There does look like there's a little bit of glass in there..."
-
"Just.. rip it out! Like a bandaid!" He grunted as his wing was extended
-
"if I did that, then I'd do more damage. Sit down." she ordered. She tried to keep his wing still.
-
He sat down, his wing still held outstretched
-
She began to pick at the piece of glass with her talons.
-
He grunted a little, but didnt move. The peice of glass was bigger than it appeared, and barely budged when she picked at it
-
"this is going to hurt a whole lot more." she dug her talons in deep. "I'm afraid you're grounded until it heals." she said. She got a grip on the piece and pulled it out.
-
He screeched in pain as his wing twitched. He groaned once it was over and promptly passed out
-
"... Wow." she placed the piece on the concrete wall around the edge of the roof, and returned to Kabel. She rolled him onto his front. "well... I'll find a bottle and some water." she said, in case he could hear. She then leapt off the building.
-
Kabel promptly woke up "mm.." he sat up slowly "jeez.. must have been dreaming.." then he noticed his wing "nope. Not a dream.."
-
Peppa would be away for about, twenty minutes. When she returned, she had a couple of water bottles, full. She had already washed the blood from her claws. "good morning Sunshine. Let's clean the wound."
-
"You weren't a dream either.." he mumbled "alright, lets just get it over with"
-
"of coarse not. Now rip some of your shirt off. You need a bandage."
-
he sighed "fine.." He slowly removed his shirt, careful to take out his wings first as one of them now had a rather large cut in it. "does it have to be my entire shirt? Just how big is it?"
-
"your wing has to be bound to your back, so you can't move it. Bandaging wings is really hard to do otherwise."
-
"You didn't answer my question.." he pointed out "is it that bad?"
-
She went and collected the piece of glass she removed. "I'd say so, judging by this." she said, placing it in front of him.
-
"Jeez.." he muttered "ill think twice before diving through windows next time.."
-
"wise decision, my friend." she took the makeshift bandages and, manipulated his wing back into a folded position. "we'll need more bandages." she noted. All she could do with the shirt was bind his wing to his back. That is what she did.
-
"Well, lets just go down to a pharmacy and get some" he said jokingly
-
"let's. I saw one earlier."
-
He nodded "now, is there a stairwell on this building?" He looked around a bit
-
"no." she responded sarcastically she headed for the stairwell.
-
"Quick wit, pretty.. only thing missing is the ability to kick my ass.." he said to himself as he followed after her
-
"If you recall, my family is a long line of skilled blacksmiths. You think we didn't train with the equipment we made?"
-
"That was meant to be quiet.." he said a little emberassed
-
"whatever. Just remember that. Be afraid "
-
"Alright, alright"
-
"now, keep an eye our for anything we can use."
-
"You got it"
-
Three floors from ground level, they arrived at what appeared to be a supply drop. Peppa didn't hesitate in opening one of the two large crates. There was an empty backpack, strapped to the lid and open, ready to be filled. Peppa took a medical kit out first, pulling out a bandage. She immediately set to work on Kabel's wing. Once done, she began loading the backpack with supplies.
-
"Hmm.." he looked in the other crate, prying it open with his claws. "This one was tighter than the other it seems.." he said as he looked inside "well what do you know? Weapons!" He pulled out a large tubular weapon, with a fuel tank on the back, and two nozzles on the front. "Looks like a plasmatic flamer.."
-
"looks like we'll both be walking if we want the gear..." peppa muttered to herself. Finishing on his wing, she took a look in the crate. She rummaged around, looking at every weapon in the box.
-
There were also a pair of curved blades, along with a few tanks for the flamer "Oh well, weapons would do better"
-
She took the blades, and examined them. "these are my brothers pieces..." she said. She looked into the crate and found a set of throwing knives. "so are these.." she said, taking them.
-
"Guns, knives.. only thing missing is a few grenades" he laughed a little and took the canisters, and strapped them to the weapon
-
"go big or go home... Even though I'd rather go home." there was an RPG in the box, with eight rounds for it. Peppa could only fit two rounds into her backpack.
-
"Here" he picked up the remaining ones "my knife belt can hold them" he slid the thin end of the rockets into the slots, with the actual explosive pointing upward
-
"we'll probably only need two." she said, closing the box. "well, now where do we go..."
-
"A more defendable building. If others show up, we'll need to defend ourselves" kabel hefted the flamer over his shoulder
-
"and you wanted to go out onto the plains. We just got am RPG. That's not going to be the best idea now. I say we look for a forest clearing. Set up a camp there for the night, then keep looking." she headed for the stairwell again. "but I'm starting to wonder if there was anything in the building worth finding. Something worth the risk..."
-
"Doubtful." Kabel followed her "even if there was anything, its probably destroyed now"
-
"not necessarily. This place looks like it was highly advanced once. There could have been a military. They could have had a bunker in the forest." as she walked, she twirled the blades. "whoever stole from him is gonna pay..." she growled.
-
"How do you know he didn't sell them to anyone?" He asked walking beside her
-
"I remember him making these. They were for himself. He wasn't going to sell these blades." she sheathed them. Then examined the throwing knives. Each one was engraved with her name in gryphon text. "I can only guess these were going to be a birthday gift..."
-
"Well, lets survive so we can return them huh?" Kabel fiddled with one of the nozzles on the flamer
-
She was silent for a moment, then sighed. "yeah. Let's move." they arrived in the ground floor.
-
"You wouldn't happen to know what planet this is wpuld you?"
-
"no... I never intended to leave my home planet, so I didn't look for any places beyond the atmosphere."
-
"I see" he was silent for a moment "hopefully we find out soon, there might be dangers we dont know about..:
-
An hour of wandering later, they found a military bunker. "told ya so." Peppa said, being a little juvenile as she usually is. During the hour, she seemed to warm up to Kabel, cracked a couple jokes... Slapped is bad wing by mistake...
-
"Yeah, you did didn't you?" Kabel rubbed his wing painfully "hopefully we can find something to properly bandage this.."
-
It has been bandaged properly. With swords drawn, she pushed the heavy, rusted steel open more. "This feels like it's been opened before." she commented. She would be right. The rather well hidden door made this a worrying factor. She hushed Kabel, then went inside, swapping one sword for the gun.
-
Kabel drew both his swords, moving alongside peppa silently. Casting a few glances around them as they went
-
As far as they got, it was clear. There was another two supply boxes in the first room. Peppa opened it, as her eyes had adjusted faster to the darkness, and found a couple of flashlights. "here." she said, handing Kabel one. It's the variety that can be strapped to your shoulder. Peppa looked in her box again. "Ooohh, cool!" she said excitedly. She reached into it. There was a robot inside, and she activated it. "master's DNA required." came the monotone voice. Peppa lay her hand on the robots visor. There was a click, and Peppa suddenly pulled her hand away. "ow.."
-
"What?" Kabel had strapped his flashlight to his shoulder and looked at her worried "did it hurt you?"
-
"it bit me. But, that's the easiest way to get DNA... Hey, that rhymed." the robot sat up in the box. "master identified." Peppa did a little happy dance. "I got mah own robot, I got mah own robot. Oh yeah. Oh yeah."
-
"So.. what do we do with it?" Kabel looked around, and spotting a larger door, and promptly went through it "oh look!" His voice came through the doorway
-
Peppa followed him in, and the robot followed her. "identifying friendly." it walked up behind Kabel and took his hand. There was a click, and a slight sting.
-
Kabel jerked his hand back "ow.." he muttered "anyway, i found some ATVs, so we can get around without our wings"
-
"do they even work?" "analysis indicates multiple faults in the electrical components. As well as lack of fuel." the robot stated immediately. Peppa stared at it. "... Awesome..." she said. "repair them." she ordered. "yes ma'am." the robot responded. "and call me Peppa." "yes Peppa."
-
"Sweet, our own little personal servant.. kind of" kabel nodded "what next?"
-
"what do you mean, 'our'? It's mine, bish, get your own. Let's explore deeper. See if there's anything else." she set off back into the first room, and through another smaller doorway, that didn't even have a door anymore. There were server banks everywhere. "well, this place tho. I wonder if they had any video games." she muttered, but it sounded louder due to the lack of sound proofing.
-
"Ooh, i know quite a few things about this stuff.." he smirked "just get me port of access and a computer"
-
"and how about electricity." she said flatly. Nothing was running, as they'd expect. "let's not stay down here too long. The air tastes bad." Peppa actually slowed her breathing then. Being a creature able to achieve great hight, where the air is thin, she can do that. "there's gotta be a generator around here. And a vent system."
-
"Yeah, probably. The generator will be in the basement, assuming this is like other military bases. Ill go do that" he stretched his arms and headed back out of the room
-
"call out if you feel faint and about to pass out! I'll come drag you out!" she called. She set off this the opposite direction. The robot followed her...
-
"Yeah! No problem, I've trained in low oxygen areas" he called back and kept looking for a stairwell, or a elevator, anything that led down.
-
She wandered into the next room, and there was another door. The room was empty, so she proceeded. "oh. My gosh." The robot lay a hand on her shoulder, making her jump. "Peppa..." "holy shh... Say something next time! Don't just sneak up on me..." "yes Peppa. I have completed one vehicle. I recommend you take this ear piece to keep in contact with me." in the bots outstretched hand, was a Bluetooth headset. "oh, cool, thanks you as you were." Peppa said, taking the device and clipping it over her ear. "once you've repaired two vehicles, help search for a generator." "yes Peppa."
-
"Oh great, how am I supposed to tell her if I find one or not?" Kabel cursed himself for not thinking about it. "Ah well, one thing at a time."
-
She'd find out what the lights came on. Peppa leapt off of the railing, gliding down to land near one if the ospreys. "hell. Yes." she said to herself. The planes looked to be well preserved, too.
-
"Found the generators!" Kabel called down from the railing "as you can see." As he spoke, the overhead lights came on and illuminated the hangar.
-
There were four aircraft in the hanger. "these'll come in handy I'll bet. Hey robot, come down here take a look at these other vehicles. What's wrong with them?" Kabel would not be able to hear the response.
-
"Who are you talking to?" Kabel asked confused "the robots back that way" he pointed
-
To prove him wrong, the robot walked in and began climbing down the stairs. "it gave me an earpiece." peppa explained.
-
"Oh. I see" kabel shrugged "anyway, im gonna try those computers"
-
"you do that, I'm gonna see if I can get one of these to work.." she called up. "I hope the fuel isn't stale..."
-
He shrugged "hopefully" he walked off back to the computer banks
-
Then peppa set to work. There were only a couple of things wrong with the planes. So she figured she'd fix them herself. She hadn't gotten under the hood of something in a while, so she figured why not. Their two hour head start ended, little did they know they even had one. But they hadn't wasted a second of it.
-
"Hmm.." kabel had gotten into a computer, and was peering at a map of the world "this place is bigger than the griffin home world.."
-
Eight blips appeared on the map for a couple of seconds. It turns out that it wasn't so much a map, as a live feed for energy anomalies.
-
"Hmm.. anomalies huh?" He tried enlarging some of the anomalies
-
The anomalies vanished, leaving only small traces. A line travelled down from the enitial source of one. The contestant had appeared three stories in the air.
-
"Hmm.. looks like someone else.." he tried getting more information next
-
He'd get none. Only the faint traces if the energy that stuck to each contestant. One anomaly was already moving, and pretty quickly as well. The stream it meet gradually stopped as the energy dissipated.
-
"Hmm.." he clicked a few keys to see if he could get some cameras
-
Nothing but static.
-
"Does anything work here?" He rolled his eyes and ran a systems check
-
Everything did work. The equipment didn't seem to be designed to do the things he wanted it to do. There was an explosion from the hanger.
