Title: Is there a difference?
Post by: Senjiku Ayakashi on June 05, 2015, 12:56:19 AM
This could be a game, a very complex one if it becomes one. I'm curious if there us a difference between giving up or moving on? What do you all think?

Giving up and moving on are two different actions. It is possible to give up on a task, and not move on for fear of encountering similar difficulties.
However, it is also possible (in certain situations) to move on to a new task without giving up on the previous one. This would imply that you intend on eventually returning to the first task to complete it at a later date.

The two actions are related, but they are not identical in their function or consequences.

As Hollow said someone can give up without moving on.

An example is person A wants to get in a relationship with person B. But B does not want to get into a relationship with A.

if A gives up on the relationship, then A still wants to be in a relationship with B but just refuses to try anymore (A is unhappy)
if A moves on, then A no longer wants to be in a relationship with B (A is not unhappy).

if you give up, there will still be longing/regret
if you move on then you've accepted the situation and there is neither of those things.

As with pretty much everything you do whether or not you give up or move on life keeps going and it will drag you along with it. So they are similar in the sense that either way it really doesn't matter, I guess
