Hello, my name is Flarp. I am not a furry fan, so you can already see my face typing this. I work for a news letter in a furry-unenthusiastic community, so what better to do then interview a furry fan to show them they're not all bad? Just answer this, and I'll be on my way.
1. What is it like, being a furry?
2. What is your opinion on furry fetish/porn?
3. What is your opinion of all furries being autistic, or austism being used as a derogatry term.
Answer at will, you guys!

1. It's fun! I'd say, to me, it's no different than someone being say a big sports enthusiast or a bodybuilder; It's part of who I am.
2. More or less the same as any other type of fetish/porn. I believe you're allowed to like whatever you want to like and that sexuality is/should be quite a personal thing.
3. Uhh.. I know WAY more furries that are not autistic than ones who are. I don't find autism to be anything derogatory either as it's a fairly well defined condition/disorder just like i.e. epilepsy. Actually many of people I know that are autistic are actually quite fun to be around!

Thanks for participating! You're response will be included in the article, and you will be sent a link when it's done!

1. Being a furry is great. You meet some great people and friends. It's a community I can be myself in. You also see some nice art.
2. I personally don't participate in it, but I don't think about it any differently than any other type of porn or fetish. It's sex, we don't think about it any more or less than you do. As an average atleast.

Being a furry is awesome, Here in the the fandom we can be who we are without fear of judgement. It doesnt matter if your black, white, pink, purple, gay or straight, here you can walk into a room and people are just like hey hows it going. I believe it was 2 the ranting gryphon that said in the fandom we found the world everybody else was looking for and we didnt even try it just happened.
Furry porn has never really been my thing so i dont really have an opinion on it, dont have anything against it, just not my thing
When i hear anyone made fun of for disabilities my blood starts boiling. My best friend has a son thats autistic and this kid is one of the coolest people i know. He loves hunting, fishing and anything outdoors. He's also the kindest, most gentle person i know. I have another friend that provides care service for a young man with autism, he's a non verbal autistic, during the day when his mother is at work. I've never seen this young man have a bad day he's always happy and has a smile. So in short when I hear someone making fun of someone with autism or any disability i wanna tell them where to go with there opinions

So the second question is pushing the limits of the rules on the general board, but I understand its important for academic reasons. So I want to lay down some ground rules so people understand what they can and can't say in terms of the second the question
1. Do not discuss personal experiences related to the second question
2. Do not link/post/describe any material that would be considered adult
3. Follow all forum rules as you would normally
I hope this clears things up for what is and isn't considered appropriate based on this thread

1. What is it like, being a furry?
I only participate in one community, but a lot of these furs are close friends, or even like family to me, a few weeks back I had an issue, and without prompting 2 separate Members of this forum PMed me to make sure I was OK. That sums up my thoughts on the fandom, its a community of people who truly care about each other.
what do we do? basically we just socialize and occasionally share artwork, also we sometimes pretend to be our fursona's, and we have fun.
2. What is your opinion on furry fetish/porn?
It exists, there is less than the media says, but more than most of us would want to admit. I don't actually care though, as you can avoid seeing it if you don't want to see it. ((I will point you to what the moderator said, this very forum does not include adult stuff in it.))
3. What is your opinion of all furries being autistic, or autism being used as a derogatory term.
Not all are autistic, but Furries will accept pretty much anyone. sexuality? religion? most furries honestly don't care, as we accept basically anyone, a lot of us are slightly odd by everyday standards.
As for insulting based on being autistic? I am mildly autistic myself, and there is NOTHING wrong with that. at all. the people who insult us with that are trolls.

1: I dunno I haven't been one actively for that long, I can tell you that the community is nice, which is surprising given that this is the internet where there are always bad eggs in every group of people and they are usually very vocal.
2: I don't look at it so what do I care? Each to their own, none of my business. why can't more people think like that?
3: Not all furries are autistic, heck, Id' say that most probably aren't, realistically. As for the use of autistic as a slur or offensive and derogatory term. Screw that. It's sad that people take labels and terms like that and start using them as insults. Just makes things worse, for everyone. People need to learn to get off each others back. Live and let live and such.

1. In the real world I'm just like anybody else. I engage in roleplay on the forums but I realize the difference between play and reality. 90% of my life I'm not even thinking about being a fur. When I do come to the forums it's like I can transition into a different world at will, but my personality remains the same. I'm generally nicer in this community because it is a lot kinder and more accepting than most others I'm involved in.
Just like with anybody else, every fur is different. Some might be more immersed than others.
2. There's literally a fetish for everything. Some people are into cars (in a different way XD). Seeing as how furries don't actually exist, i don't think an attack on furry fetish can be justified in any way. Or if people want to dress up, it's none of my business if it's between consenting adults. No matter how weird I think someone is, I will NEVER impose myself onto them, unless they are imposing themselves onto someone else.
3. I don't care if someone is autistic. I generally find that they are a joy to have around and tend to bond with them more closely than with others. There's endless degrees of function in the autistic community, most you would never even know. I see perfect-functioning people everyday who have the intelligence of a rock.
I think you're a moron if you insult someone for anything that they can't help.

1. What is it like, being a furry?
It's a way to free a part of you, like a dæmon in His Dark Material with the difference that you can switch between being you as a human and you as your fursona [as I was referring as dæmon]...
You're quite free in here, and everyone is kind.
In the end, it's like being you and not being you... Looking for balance between the human and the fursona. Both exist at the same time, but you can be only one at the time.
2. What is your opinion on furry fetish/porn?
As for drawing a fursona, everybody chooses what stays animal-like and what becomes human-like. For the porn itself, I don't really care.
3. What is your opinion of all furries being autistic, or austism being used as a derogatry term.
Autistic is the term used by people to balance with normal. What I mean is people who are not normal are automatticaly autist... And I think it's a shame to think like that...

1- It's like being part of a high school club, with less angst, all the drama, and it's like an extended family. It's very free and unjudging. On the topic of our Fursona's, or our characterized representations of ourselves, it's pretty dynamic. I a can really be as simple as your favorite animal, to a hybrid of 27 species that thou identify with. Caitey the HellHound is my comical take on who I am, and even a big middle finger to those who just love to feed on stigma. She's a hell hound, we all know the story of a hell hound, but a cute, loving, helpful Hell Hound? Irony!
2-The Yiff stuff? It's like every other fandom, just people understand us furries the least, so why not make fun of us? Well, that's the world we live in. There's a very, VERY small percentage that actively search for it. When I look for furry art, I like the action hero stuff, Fursona portraits, and the domestic relationship stuff, like walking along the beach holding hands. I don't really care for that stuff.
3- Again, I like my Fursona to be a middle finger to those who feed off stigma. I'm a Transgender/transsexual Girl, MTF (male to female). I can't tell you how much people think blah blah blah, about me because I'm Trans*. Thing is, I'm not what they make me out to be. And I have a cousin who's Autistic, and I love them to the ends of the earth. So that makes me mad. We as humans need to step it up, and top having our heads so far up our rears we can taste our lungs. It's not okay. It's not funny. It's straight up harassment, and if there's one thing I hate, it's bullies. Please, put on your paper that the derogatory term for furries is not only insulting to us, but those who are autistic. They didn't ask for it, and I didn't ask for people to be hateful to them, my fellow Trans* individuals, LGBT individuals, of furry family. Harassment is a direct sign of cowardice. Put THAT in your paper.

"Stop having our heads so far up our rears we can taste our lungs."

This is awesome. Mind if I borrow this to insult people next time a situation calls for it

Go for it!

Yus! I am gonna cause some douche to be confused about whether or not to be offended!
