Title: The shadow of dawn
Post by: Fenox Helkiin on March 11, 2015, 09:13:13 AM
"THIS IS NOT A DRILL, I REPEAT, THIS IS NOT A DRILL! ALL HANDS TO BATTLESTATIONS ON THE DOUBLE!" The voice blares in the background as everyone is woken up from their cryogenic sleep.
The star ship known as 'Titanis' was under attack from an unknown enemy, presumably humans, they had already secured the landing bays and were working their way to the ships core.

"Uhh... I hate it when this happens... I mean if it's yet another attack on us by old world humans..." Fenox growled as he got up, went to his locker and opened it as he rubbed his eyes.

Angder woke up in his section of the ship, he was mostly accustomed to internal security matters, but in an emergency it was all hands on deck. He groaned as he climbed out of the pod, and grabbed his coat and hat from where he had dropped them... grabbing them off the floor. the whole room was a run down mess, bumpy floor, rusty door, grey metal walls. Angder smirked looking at the walls, the schematics said that metal was some kind of super metal, though Angder suspected the whole ship was actually just a giant hunk of Iron floating through space.

"OK... computer, what is the situation? computer? hmph, still no voice commands in this sector then." He walks over to the computer imbedded in the wall, and asks the question manually "OK... landing bays, and core, right.  Looks pretty bad..." The wolf grabs his gun, and moves towards the door.

"All men, battle stations!"
Captain Shaw and his group of about thirty marines stood, aiming their plasma projectors aimed at a bulkhead door.
Shaw grunted, carrying the relatively light, but powerful thing with a large amount of ease that only comes with training and use over a long career.
Since plasma beams typically dissipate very quickly in an atmosphere, Their DPP-2 keeps the plasma in a magnetic field, keeping the plasma in its lethal, glowing green form until it reaches a target. though it can be easily stopped by a similar magnetic field, these magnetic shields cannot be held for very long, and though they prevent the user from experiencing a plasma burns, they do give quite a kick.

As Fenox got himself dressed, wearing his battle suit with throwing knife sheaths on the shoulders and hips, he heard someone in the next room trying to talk to the onboard computer. "That'll be Angder..." He sighed before heading out of his room, into the hallway and goes to knock on Angder's door just as it opens. "Hey, Angder you do know that you need to set up the voice command features right? Oh and we're under attack again. Still no word on what's attacking 'The shadow of dawn' buuut I reckon it's just some humans wanting something that they don't have." Fenox said as he made numerous hand gestures, not all of them safe for all audiences, before checking his pistol was loaded and nodding down the hall towards the core of the ship. "Shall we?"

Small sparks ran across the seam of the outer bulkhead door of the shadow, and all of the marines, some human, some anthro, tensed, their fingers on the trigger of both plasma and chemically accelerated slug weapons.
With a massive explosion, the thick bulkhead doors connected to a glass umbilical, exploded forth, pinning two marines under them.
the marines, meanwhile, released their deadly payloads into the large tube, killing anything that lived.
but there was nothing but a small maintenance bot, shattered and broken from the immense volley of fire from the UEG troopers.
the marines stood there a moment, collectively scratching their heads

Angder turned to Fenox, as he spoke and growled "Right... Setting up voice commands, I knew that..." He turned to peer down the corridor, he could already hear the sound of guns. "Yea, lets get moving, sounds like things are heating up". He had been in firefights before, but these humans were not hard to fight, just tiring.

"Alright.... Umm..." Fenox said as he checked the holographic display on his left forearm. "This way!" He then immediately span around the corner, gripping onto one of the support beams to stay on his feetpaws and not slip over.

The sparking robot went floppy, having lost power, as a large battle mech stepped through the smoke behind it and it's visor scanned the room before saying "targets acquired, Initiating eradication protocols." While the mini guns, attached to the underside of its forearms, began spooling up.

Angder follows fenox, Fenox used a holographic display... Angder smiled, he knew this part of the ship off by heart, he didn't need a map to know where he was going.

"GAH! I hate these ships. I much prefer having my paws on the ground, these things are like a damn 3D maze, you know? I mean I'd much, much, rather be in a jungle outpost..." He groaned then stopped dead still as his ears started to twitch about. "Get down, now." Fen whispered to Angder.

"what the hell..." one of the marines, a human, went.
then, with a massive explosion, and a brilliant flash of light, the umbilical tube was gone, the pressure differential (a complete vacuum versus about one atmosphere) sucking most of the marines out into space. None of the armor that they had had thrusters of any sort. the marines, in a tumbling mass of armored tungsten, flew in random directions, quite a few would be lost forever.
Shaw, and a few of the quicker thinking marines, activated their mag-boots, bolting them to the semi-ferrous floor of the shadow.

Angder Crouched down, and gripped a support beam. he listened intently. "What are you hearing?" he asked quietly.
Title: The shadow of dawn
Post by: Fenox Helkiin on March 12, 2015, 08:08:24 PM
"...two foot soldiers. Heavily armed by the sounds of there footsteps and the clanking noises." He calmly said, with his eyes closed to help focus on the sounds, before looking straight up at the air vent opening. "Hey Angder, what would you rather do? Take on these two head on or do it more stealthy like, choice is yours, just keep in mind that the stealth option means crawling through the air ventilation which is gonna be a tight squeeze."

The mech stood firm as the vacuum of space pulled the soldiers out of the bay. It's arms slowly started to move upward and take aim at the few who had activated their gravity boots in time. "You, you are an anthropomorphic being" it's robot voice said as it locked onto one of them "are you friend or foe?"
Title: Re: The shadow of dawn
Post by: Angder on March 12, 2015, 08:15:26 PM
"For you maybe..." Angder smiled, he was used to going through the air-vents, and he didn't fancy a head on attack. "I say we stealth it"

"Fvck you!" one of the marines shouts, shooting the robot a single fingered rude gesture
The rest of the marines opened fire on the thing, about fifteen guns, most of them plasma projectors, arced their projectiles towards the target.
Title: Re: The shadow of dawn
Post by: Fenox Helkiin on March 12, 2015, 08:33:32 PM
The mech locked onto the marine who did the rude gesture and fired a single 50.BGM round through his visor killing him and splattering a few of his comrades with said marines blood as his head exploded in a violent flurry. Then moved onto the next target, the ones firing plasma, and opened fire with a volley of smoke grenades.
"Alrighty then..." Fenox sighed as he got up slowly and jumped up at the ventilation shaft opening. "...don't suppose you've got something that won't make it look like this has been tampered with and is reasonably quiet too?"
Title: Re: The shadow of dawn

((*.50 BMG, aka browning machine-gun))
The marines quickly hide behind three-inch thick tungsten-carbide/Chobham shields, the heavy anti-material rounds pinging uselessly off of the heavy shields that the marines carry, occasionally popping up through small slits in the shield to pour fire onto the machine. eventually, they would override the thing's plasma shields, simply due to their volume of fire.

Angder reached into his coat, and pulls out some kind of electronic device "Get ready to catch it when it falls" He points it at each of the screws around the grate, they seem to distort slightly under a strange green glow, as the last one distorts the grate falls. He begins to climb into the vent.

Post by: Fenox Helkiin on March 13, 2015, 07:27:36 AM
As advised, Fenox catches the gate. "Nifty little tool." He smiles before climbing up into the ven as well. "Okay... Now we make our way toward the two soldiers, try spotting any weak points and then drop down and dispatch of them as quickly as possible. Sound good to you?"
Title: Re: The shadow of dawn
Post by: Angder on March 13, 2015, 10:25:40 PM
"s'cuse me" Angder squeezed Past Fenox, and lifted the Grate back into place, "100... 200... 300... 400... 500..." he let go. "Good as new, no way they will ever know we were here now. so! weak points... we will want to get above them, easiest place to attack them from I would say"
Title: Re: The shadow of dawn
Post by: Fenox Helkiin on March 13, 2015, 10:52:46 PM
"Damn... I need to get one of those things..." Fenox sighed with envy as he looked at the tool Angder used. "...anyway. Back to the point.... Right umm... Yeah I think we should try trailing them through the air vents for as long as we can, before dropping down on them. Sound good?"
Title: Re: The shadow of dawn
Post by: Angder on March 13, 2015, 11:00:56 PM
"If they spot us up here we are sitting ducks, but I agree gathering information is important... I am assuming that's why you want to trail them right?" Angder glanced down the vent "Fine... it sounds like a plan, but only if we can remain quiet, as soon as we make a sound they hear, we will have to drop." Angder tapped the grate, it wobbled slightly. "Well then, as I am back here, I will follow you"
Title: Re: The shadow of dawn
Post by: Fenox Helkiin on March 13, 2015, 11:05:14 PM
"Right. Maybe, given how armoured they sound, they'll lead us to the one who's spearheading the attack. I just hope they don't go for the dark matter drive... That would make one hell of a s**t storm if they mucked about with it." He replied as the, correctly assumed, soldiers walked along underneath them.
Title: Re: The shadow of dawn
Post by: Angder on March 14, 2015, 09:59:52 PM
"agreed" Angder watched the soldiers carefully "Those suits are poorly maintained, should be able to take them in close combat if I play my cards right..." Angder looked at Fenox "still following you, I attack when you do"
Title: Re: The shadow of dawn
Post by: Fenox Helkiin on March 14, 2015, 10:16:02 PM
Fenox looked directly at the soldiers, scanning their bodies like a machine, till eventually snapping out of the trance like state he was in and looking at Angder. "Okay. The one on the left appears to have a slight limp, probably because a recent injury or surgery that he's had, so he's likely to have only just recently been cleared for duty again. Meaning that he's probably going to be getting used to being in duty and therefore a little stressed making it easier for us to take him down by being quick on our paws and out manoeuvre him. The other hasn't fitted his suit properly so it's not air tight and we may be able to dislodge a few pieces making it easier for us to get a clean hit on him." After having stated his observations Fenox shifted to his feral form and crawled along the vents, trailing the two enemy soldiers, and being careful to not make any noises.
Title: Re: The shadow of dawn
Post by: Angder on March 14, 2015, 11:57:55 PM
Angder sighed as Fenox went feral, he knew many of the crew could do that, and it always frustrated him that he could not.

he followed behind Fenox, being careful to have a couple of meters between them though, if there was one specialty that Angder had it was stealth, over the sound of the armored figures below them, he may as well have been completely silent. Eventually though, he got impatient. "Can we just attack already!" he hissed.

"Patience is a virtue... Of which you apparently do not possess" Fenox replied calmly. "Now keep your voice down... Please." He continued as the soldiers came to a stop at a large metal door. "Please don't be the reactor... Please..." He whined.
Title: Re: The shadow of dawn

"That's the reactor" Angder said bleakly "we should attack! NOW!"
Title: Re: The shadow of dawn

Fenox stood up and pushed the panel underneath him till it gave way and broke off from the ventilation then fell on top of the soldiers. "You go for the one with the limp... I've got this one." He barked at Angder as his eyes light up a bright orange along with the markings on his body.

Angder drops from the vent onto his target, knocking him flat, he smiles as he hears a satisfying *click* from his leg, he then immediately digs into the soldier with his claws.

"Let's see how you handle a little... HEAT!" He yelled as his muzzle light up with a yellowish glow before unleashing a flurry of ash and fire into the gaps in the soldiers armour plating.

The soldier Angder was fighting tried to raise his gun, Angder knocked it away, but in doing so caused it to fire two stray shots. Plasma rounds slammed into the ceiling above Angder, burning holes in it. Angder ignored this, and clawed at the (now unarmed) soldiers visor, causing it to shatter.

After a few short moments of sheer pain, from being burned alive, the soldier that Fenox was fighting went limp. "That's one!" Fenox yelled and he stood up and shifted back to anthro.

After a few minutes of sustained fire, fired blindly into the smoke, the machine's magnetic shield flickered and died. One lucky marine hit it with a plasma shot. The bright green of a plasma projector arcing between it and the machine; sublimating and melting the alloys into molten slag. A few more marines fired a few more shots just for good measure, and then, the thing sputtered, fell, and died.
Once the combat was over, Captain Shaw immediately sprung to his feet, and began shouting orders into the microphone wrapped around his throat, even though he didn't need to. the thing could pick him up, even if he barely whispered.
"I want rescue crew out there picking up our marines, NOW! All men, grab rifles, prep for boarding! I want marines in the reactor, life support, and the bridge! All other stations are a secondary concern! MOVE IT!"
Title: Re: The shadow of dawn

"Main bulkhead, by what used to be the boarding umbilical." he sighed " got a couple marines that went Dutchman." He shuddred at the thought. How many of them would be saved? how many were kilometers away already, nothing more than a spec of dust? he didn't know, and he was glad that he wasn't one of them.

"Can you get yourself, and your troops, to the main reactor... I think we may need some ba-" the radio cuts out, before Fenox can finish, as the alarms start blaring into full alert all over the ship "warning, warning, reactor malfunction. Ple-" then the whole ship goes dark, no sound, no light, no nothing... Just pitch black and silent.

Angder finished off the soldier creating a nasty squelching noise, the fact the light were off was probably for the best. "Err, Fenox? What Just happened?" Angder asked.

"aah... Sh*t!" Shaw curses, glad that his space armor was vacuum sealed. Life support would be shutting off soon, and he hoped that the civilians had enough sense to get in some sort of life support bubble.

meanwhile, three UEG marines burst into the reactor. Their lead, a human Corporal, steps forward, an uneasy gaze scanning across the reactor room, his hands tight on his plasma projector.

"...okay, Angder... You now have my full permission to panic..." Fenox said with a trembling in his voice as he stood up. "This day just keeps getting better and better... Alright let's find the control panel and hope like hell that still has some power." He added as he walked around, using the glow of his bioluminescent fur to light the way, till bumping into the UEG marines. "Umm... Hai?" Fenox said rather shyly as he rubbed his neck with a weak and sheepish smile.

The man sighs "Sir, You asked for our support. We came." The youngish, freckle-faced human gives a wide gesture to his two companions, only one of which was fur, he was a husky of some sort. "Sir, if you don't mind, there's pirates on this ship. Private Anding there-" He gestured at the husky "Is qualified to work with dark matter, nuclear and geothermal reactors."

"Alright. Anding, any idea on what happened to the ship? I have my own theory but I'd like to hear yours given you likely know more about dark matter drives then anyone else currently here." Fenox asked calmly.
Title: Re: The shadow of dawn
Post by: Ryan Naismith on March 18, 2015, 01:06:36 PM
"Well... There are several theories I can come up with on the spot. The more severe ones can be ignored, simply because we aren't in a black hole right now. One, it could have been a breach of reactor protocol, which is quite likely given our...circumstances. what we have to do for that is simply activate auxiliary drones to work the reactor."
"Two, The reactor could have run out of fuel. Though this is highly unlikely, given that the shadow caries enough Element zero to fuel the ship for generations, and it refines more of the stuff at any given opportunity. We can't do much, if that happens..."
"Third... and this is the most grave of the three, The auto-sequencers could have had a malfunction, and the reactor, instead of blowing itself to bits, turned itself off. we would need to completely resynchronize the primary and auxiliary autosequencers, or the resulting output decay will cause a catastrophic Eezo dump. which, in layman's terms, means a really big explosion."

"C-can anyone tell how close in proximity we are to a planet large enough to pull this ship into its atmosphere? Baring in mind that we don't have anything to resist any gravity that is..." He sighed before slowly getting up and darting his orange glowing eyes from person to person and fur to fur.

"Yeah of course." Anding said, panic edging his voice "uh... Should we... Head to the escape pods or something?

Captain Shaw, ensconced in a suit of highly damaged, underpowered space armor, stumbled through the door. As he did, a bolt of bright green plasma arced toward him. His magnetic shields quickly faltered, and died.

Captain shaw jerked awake, and groaned. apparently, this was heard throughout the comn-net, because anding quickly keyed on his own coms and asked "Captain Shaw, is that you? jesus, I'm glad you're okay. Where are you?"

"Alright Shaw. We're heading your way now, just hold on." Fenox replied over the coms. "Anding, if you can get the engines running again, do it. I'd rather not have to abandon this beauty of a ship but it looks as though we may have too." He got up, dropped the wires and started heading for the door that lead back to the hangers. "If anyone wishes to stay and help Anding then feel free too. I'm not going to stop you. Oh and Anding... If we do start getting pulled into a planet's atmosphere, try making it a clean landing would ya?" Fenox continued before bolting out the door.

"God damn it. Hold on!" Henry stood up and turned towards Fenox, "I'll help Shaw too." Looking over at Angder with a little bit of hope in his eye, "if you can land this ship do so. I was never really Good with all that stuff." He then followed Fenox.

"Roger." Adding nodded, immediately heading into the reactor, trying to fix it.

Shaw huffed and puffed, trying to climb to his feet, but they didn't want to work right. So he fell right back down. His vision was blurry, his breathing ragged. His armor had held up (it was designed to withstand .50 BMG API, but the energy from all of those bullets had to go somewhere, right?) So the energy from those shots had bruised him badly. Upon a quick self diagnostic, he discovered that he had multiple internal injuries, and was hemmoraging blood from an artery in his left arm, thankfully staunched by an internal tourniquet in his suit.

"Wait... why do you think I can land the ship!? I am not a pilot!" Angder follows the stranger (Henry) "If there is a fight down where shaw is you will need all the help you can get though! I am good in fights..."

"Okay, lets move then. Do you have a weapon?" Henry looked at Angder with his arm extended with a plasma pistol in his hand, "If you don't have one take this."

"I prefer my revolver, though thanks for offering..." Angder pulls out some kind of old fashioned gun, he always preferred old technology...

Smiles and replies, "I use to work with a man who used revolvers. I think he was an ocelot. But anyway, what are we waiting for. Lets move!" Holstering his pistol and running off.

Coming up behind the ship, hidden from radar due to a jammer, was the ship of bounty hunter Talia H. Quincy. It wasn't a big ship but big enough that a single crew member could travel long distances in space without trouble. Inside Talia was trying to hail the ship but was getting no responce. After a while without any success she decideds to attach her ship to an empty escape exit and enter from there.

Anding was hard at work in the center of the reactor, while captain Shaw lay slumped against the door of whatever docking bay he lay in.

Before long the group reached the docking bay... "Is everyone still here?" Angder asks? "Its too dark for me to see you all clearly, and I don't want to have left anyone behind!"

A slight Orange glow could be seen in the far corner of the cargo bay, slowly fading and occasionally flickering back again. "...note to self don't do that again." Fenox sighed from said corner.

"Fenox? what did you do?" Angder asked, concerned.

"well as we are all here, where is this Shaw guy?" Angder asked "Henry, shine that torch around this room a bi... Oh god... what the hell happened here?"

"That would be the result of me losing my temper... I get a tad fired up when someone shoots me in the shoulder..." He added before getting up and coughing up some smoke and steam, a slight hint of burnt flesh and blood following it, then he pats himself down and holds his left shoulder while moving it around in a circular motion.

"I've never seen something like this... How did you do that?" Walking slowly up to Fenox. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah I'm fine, just a lapse of self control is all, well... Aside from having been shot that is." Fenox replied as he looked over the charred remains of a group of 5-10 marines. "...yeah. I don't play nice when I'm pissed off.... Heh..." He continued before jumping onto the radio "Shaw? You kicked the bucket yet?" He said, trying to make light of the situation they were in. "...oh, Anding, can you give me a status update?"

"Not doing too well." Anding said "...should.... should tske z few mintutes. And... hell, im probably practically glowing by now." He grunted, referencing the immense amount.of radistion he must have on him by now
"Still alive..." shaw grunted "but... just barely. Get here... get here quick guys."

"Don't worry to much if you can't fix it, Anding. If you can't then just get the ship to crash land onto the nearest planet. Shaw, we're in the cargo bay at the moment. Where about's are you?" Fenox asked, slight tremble in his voice, as polite as possible.

Angder crouched down, and examined the weaponry "Advanced stuff... These guys were well equipped. No wonder they were able to get to our reactor, they must have melted through security..."
