Title: How's life going?
Post by: Grovygrunge on March 10, 2015, 11:12:16 PM
Seeing as how I've just started being active on this I thought it would be interesting to ask how peoples life are going.

I guess I should go first:

Well, at the moment I'm in my last year of school (probably gonna go back and learn some more though) and I'm not too sure about what the future will bring or what to do. Most of all I really want to write stories but when I get home from school I'm always too tired. Recently had some relationship trouble but that fixed so that's fantastic.  :D

All things considered, I'd say my life is going well, I just don't know what to do with it.

I've had a good think about this question and normally I have about 5 or so things internally keeping me a bit down

but recently I've been really happy!
I've got a decent job which I enjoy, I've got a good bunch of friends who I feel comfortable around,
I'm going to Confuzzled in may, so i've got something to look forwards to

yeah I'm feeling great!

University is just on the horizon, and I'm acing the course I'm currently on. Studying Computer Science to a higher-level, mainly programming and design techniques. It's been a blast, and I'm looking forward to where the higher levels take me.

I've finally found a career path I'd like to follow, and I've settled with several friend groups that I trust and care for deeply, and my main hobbies have kept me occupied while I alleviate stress..

Overall, I'd say everything's pretty fantastic over on this end. I'm hoping the trend continues.

Testing is a very good and very useful trade, trust me. Without you guys, we'd all struggle to get anything done. I'm more focused on Website Design and Development, currently. Working with things such as CSS is just so relaxing for me, in a weird way.

Mixed.

I mean, it's mostly good, doing university, getting my assignment done, hanging out with friends and developing a game in a team is always fun. But I'm looking for an internship, and applying to companies and stuff is stressful business, so it sort of brings me down a bit, the whole ordeal.

A lot better since I moved to the USA.

Born and raised in Australia... Sydney to be more specific. Nice place, friendly people, but socially quite closed-minded. Not many opportunities in my industry of choice either (game development and special effects). And furries? Forget about it! To them a furry is a Kangaroo, and not a lifestyle choice LOL!

I came to the US to pursue a game dev job and got accepted! Utah was where I ended up... sure not the best place, but Salt Lake Comic con was AWESOME! Saw a few furries there and smiled on the inside. Wanted to say hi but was with people from work so I didn't. Now I live on the East Coast USA, doing pretty well. Doing work on 3D engines, visual effects for cutscenes, and Oculus Rift.

I will say one thing about the USA: while it may not be the only place in the world with "freedom"... there are different types of freedom I have found, and the freedom I have experienced here is phenomenal! For the first time I don't feel as alone!

Ah you silly person! You know there's a furry meet in Sydney every first and third thursday of every month? There's also Mid May Meet, which is a giant furmeet, and there's also FurJam which is a borderline convention! Not to mention that there is a planned large furry meet every 2 or so months, Sydney actually has quite a large furry community xD

I'd have assumed Australia I would be quite accepting of the furry community due to the fact we British are pretty okay with it and they are descended from us after all.

Well perhaps I let my immediate circle of friends and acquaintances give me a false impression... I guess I was silly. Regardless, I was not in the best place to feel comfortable about putting it "out there" anyway, but glad to see there is a place for it back home... might have to do join a meetup whenever I come back for holidays! Australian summer and fursuits though? Yikes! I hope they are held in the winter! LOL

Frankly, I want to visit Australia but I won't be able to most likely for a while plus I'm kind of terrified of all the scary animals Australia has. Even the platypus isn't complete safe apparently.

Honestly, I would not worry about it... it's most a fear tactic.  XP It is true that a lot of the natural wildlife is poisonous and can do hard... but the likelihood of you coming across any (provided you did not go specifically looking for them) is very slim. You should def pay a visit some day... it's pretty darn awesome.

Alright guys lets remain on topic:3

I think the coolest thing I'm doing right now is making a game. This is sort of the first "serious" game project I've ever done, while unlike ChromoWolf I don't see myself getting into the gaming industry, I still enjoy making them and I think it'll be a really cool thing once it's done. I've been talking to gameDevs all around Sydney to get advice and I currently have an awesome team. There's...

Me: Coder and the guy who originally came up with the idea and organized the team
Adam: Coder and designer, whose basically amazing at everything he does even if he wouldn't want to admit it!
Simon: Artist, hasn't done anything yet but I know his art very well and it's very good
Lachlan: Quality Assurance, this guys lives and breathes game dev and he's hung around with the sort a lot. So he's in charge of the general flow, making sure things are going as plan and making the game "fun".

It's a great experience and I've learned a lot, namely how to use unity! But I've also learned quite a bit about working in a team outside of a school environment. Right now the biggest challenge is getting everyone motivated now that University has come. We're finally at the stage of making levels and I've already made three! So I think that's the best thing so far

Plans suddenly shifted, and I find myself going to a different university in the future than anticipated. I'm very lucky I had a back-up plan, or I'd be in a lot of trouble right now. I hate having the rug pulled from under me, and I was fortunate this time to plan around it happening in advance. Can't say the same for some of those who were going on the course with me, sadly..

Oh? Care to tell what happened?

I'm not at liberty to do so, otherwise I'd go into more detail. Legal stuff, regarding employment and student numbers.

That's quite bogus. Still if there's a possible punishment then better safe than sorry
